They should have called it RED NATION 2 but otherwise... its RED NATION 2 with a different name that confused RED NATION 1 fans and limited its reach but overall it's more RED NATION and that is good news if you are a fan of RED NATION. So if you liked RED NATION and didn't know there was a RED NATION 2... well here it is pal. Get to shooting the <INSERT LOCATION OF CHOICE HERE> RED.
Just play Nation Red instead. Far better in every way.
Nation Red is one of my all time favorite top down shooters with almost 200 hours played and 100% achieves. Versus Squad is a case study in how to take one game (Nation Red), strip out all the fun elements of the original, and release it under a different title. Thankfully, this was peddled as a separate product instead of an "update" to Nation Red, so they didn't ruin the original experience. Versus Squad is hot garbage in comparison.
It's like Nation Red with more stuff.

It was fun for about an hour and a half and then I just didn't care much anymore. If you like a horde mode style tower defense game then you may enjoy this but for me there are just better games out there right now.
TLDR: not worth your time 3/10 Average completion time: 80+ hours Number of achievements: 68 (4 co-op) Difficulty:circle running to pad ingame playtime to 50 hours Replay-ability: setting maps for achievements Online playerbase: None existent! Review: versus squad is a sequel to nation red, which adds base building ontop of the zombie survival esque gameloop. As a product, it's primarily a single player experience which after afew hours becomes very stale. The content itself is setting up the limited selection of maps which are covered in the achievement sections for survival & tactical. These range from top down, side entrance or open field spawn points. The perk point bonus system being tied to overall rank is rather redundant as the bonus points it provides become meaningless after 15 minutes playtime. Depending on which mode you play the most, you might hit a brick wall from the jump from warlord to master rank, that being the jump from 20 to 50 ingame playtime hours. This usually involves spending 25+ hours running around in circles on campsite survival, dodging orange jump suit suicide bombers to pad out your ingame playtime from warlord 20 hours to master rank 50 hours. The musical score is just the title screen music on a 5 minute loop! Unfortunately, it's one of the those heavily padded titles which outstays its welcome after 5-10 hours. Better options out there for your time/money.
The game wasn't even fun enough for two people to play it longer. The mechanics aren't convincing. The graphics aren't convincing. The gameplay isn't convincing. Unfortunately the game gets a thumbs down...
