About

Vampire Therapist is the BAFTA-nominated narrative adventure / therapy simulator in the vein (get it) of What We Do in the Shadows, Young Frankenstein, My Dinner with André, and Horrible Histories where you play as a reformed bloodsucker helping other vampires find inner peace.
This isn't your typical visual novel — featuring a fangtastic cast (such as Matthew Mercer, Sarah Grayson, and Cyrus Nemati), Vampire Therapist teaches real therapy concepts with a story that explores what it means to live, die, live again, and maybe even how to feel alive. Because even vampires deserve to love themselves.
Step into the boots of Sam, a reformed Wild West gunslinger turned vampire therapist. After centuries of bloodshed, Sam teams up with a 3000-year-old blood-sucking mentor in a moody German nightclub, to guide fellow vampires through the twists and turns of their immortal existence — offering them a chance at self-acceptance in a world that feels ever more alien.
From self-loathing vampires who’ve witnessed millennia of human folly to agoraphobic social media addicts, and even those grappling with the trauma of seeing too many awful streaming series (we’ve all been there), Sam’s got his work cut out for him. With each session, Sam will challenge cognitive distortions using real-life therapy techniques to help his clients reconnect with reality — even if reality has left them behind.
You can’t fix the world, but maybe you can help other vampires accept it.
That is, if you can accept yourself first.

"Vampire Therapist is shaking a lot of things up in one very elegant bag." — Rock Paper Shotgun
"Every single character was memorable, and the thought of even more quirky clients for Sam to treat is exciting." — GameRant
"I came away from Vampire Therapist actively wanting to emotionally improve and be kinder to myself" - GamesRadar

Real Therapy Concepts: You’ll learn and apply real cognitive behavioral therapy concepts vetted by licensed therapists. By challenging client statements that contain “cognitive distortions”, you’ll help vampires see where their thoughts don’t match reality.
A Comedic Look Through History: Meet emotionally damaged vampires from ancient Greece, Renaissance Italy, Tudor England, and the Bronze Age.
An All-Star Voice Cast: Featuring Matthew Mercer (Critical Role, Baldur's Gate 3), Francesca Meaux (Hades), Sarah Grayson (Gone Home, Hades II), Kylie Clark, and the game's creator, Cyrus Nemati (Hades, Pyre).
Unique Setting: Vampire Therapist merges cozy self-introspection with a dark European goth vibe. In fact, the whole thing takes above a goth club in Germany filled with willing necks to bite.
Minigames: Learn mindfulness meditation, safely and consensually bite sexy necks!
Peaceful Play: You can't lose in Vampire Therapist, and you'll always have a chance to learn and try again... just like life! If you're looking for bad endings or want to kill NPCs, Steam has many excellent offerings for you.

I loved the main story, very beginner friendly when it comes to terminology for therapy terms as well. I also recommend the dlc for a little extra story. The art looks nice, don't expect too much in terms of interacting aside from dialog options. I saw a good amount of people who gave a thumbs down for it. If you got some time to kill and want to explore cognitive distortions by all means buy this game.
I'm not sure I ever became great at guessing the right distortions, but it's an interesting story and helps one think about these things, even if in a very fictionalized way.
Pretty boring, with shallow and tropey characters, and filler mini games that serve no purpose.
I never thought that being a gunslinger vampire therapist could be so much fun!!!
Excellent artstyle, fun mechanics. It trips me up a bit because often i feel there are multiple possible distortion interpretations to the same sentence, but the game acknowledges that fact.
Minus an annoying character, I really liked this story. Fun and unique visual novel.
A fun visual novel that is also somewhat educational, Vampire Therapist isn't nearly as cheesy as the title of the game - it actually uses the format to approach therapy and the benefits thereof quite well. Everything is exactly what you'd expect: the voice acting is appropriately melodramatic, the music is all sad violins or industrial, the graphics are mostly frozen animation. All of it is reasonably high quality with excellent writing. I think there's a ton of value to be had in the topics that the game approaches and while it often wields humor, it also isn't afraid to discuss a lot of deep seated trauma. If I have any negatives at all for it, it would be that there are "no stakes" (that's both an intentional pun as well as an actual issue): the game literally won't let you make the wrong choice. There are dialogue choices you can end up not seeing because you don't have the correct options equipped, but you can't actually be a bad therapist and cause your clients to walk out or anything. If you like visual novels and you're open to the topic of therapy in a kind of cheesy (if effective) setting, Vampire Therapist is highly recommended; on the other hand, if you're not open to therapy or you don't care for visual novels, there's not enough here to make you change your mind. I enjoyed my time with it and the length was just about perfect; YMMV.
So I've really enjoyed this game and would recommend. HOWEVER, playing on the Steam Deck in typical game/controller mode can be wonky (the game would randomly stop interpreting button inputs and I'd have to switch to touching the touchscreen to complete interactions, it froze twice in the first few hours I played, etc). It may be best to play with a mouse if you can.
if I play this game through five or so more times, I feel like something in me will be healed* nah, for serious, I enjoyed the humor, the art, and the voice acting. The self-care breaks were really great - what other game has The Three Stooges and Buster Keaton, eh? Love it! *as the game disclaimers say, this game is not a substitution for therapy. i just really related to some of the characters' thought processes and/or backgrounds, and if they're deserving of the compassion and understanding that Sam shows them throughout their sessions, then darn it, so am I.
