It was not a kiss – just a peck on the cheek at best
To say that I’m disappointed about how this game turned out is to say nothing. The first chapters were so promising! The setting, the descriptions, the mystery, the hecking world building! They were all there, beckoning me with a sweet promise of a good vampire story with hot romance. And what did I get in the end? A tiny piece of supposedly delicious jelly completely ruined by a chef who had only 10 minutes to cook the dish that usually takes 3 hours. Anyway, let’s move away from flowery allegories and just talk like a casual gamer to gamer. Here are the traditional points that I use to judge text-based games: the plot, the writing, the characters, and the romance/relationships (if applicable).
Good, Bad and Criminal Offence to the Genre
I will start with the plot. There is so much missed potential! My heart bleeds at the thought what Vampire's Kiss could be if it got proper treatment. The game has a good start and presents an intriguing secret of your death and what you have become now. Find mysterious artifacts, discover the truth behind your creator, look for allies, gain power or search for the bits of humanity left in your still heart – all of these ideas could have worked so well if only they were properly developed. Sadly, the seeds were sown but the crops were never cultivated: the author tries to present the story as something grand and thrilling, but fails to do so because while most threads do find their endings and answers, they eventually become so underwhelming and rushed, that you can barely care about all those secrets and adventures. The events just happen without you and, to be honest, you do not really affect much.
The attack on Alex’s house will happen no matter what, Saffron will start her coupe no matter how close you two are or how powerful her faction is, the artifacts will appear at the right moment even if you don’t really want to look for them, etc.
Second, the writing. All those beautiful descriptions of London streets are so well-written and vivid that you can’t but dive right into the story and its lanes full of vampiric lore. It was also interesting to meet Marky, your future guide, for the first time and get used to his accent and style of speech (the author did a really good job writing this part). Also, the general style is good, consistent. BUT! It is also rushed, terribly so. I’d say the story goes downhill right after the first meeting with court. Everything before it? Mwah, chef’s kiss! Everything after? Where are you running so fast, son?! Slow down a bit and let me enjoy my undead existence, sheesh. For some reason, the style also becomes worse in these parts – more repetitive words, less variety of vocabulary in general, etc. Next, the characters, and this is the worst part, if you ask me. No, not because they are boring – quite the opposite, actually. There are lots of amazing personalities and each one is unique and distinct enough that you will never mistake one for another. But… yep, again this pesky ‘but’ in the form of rushed writing: barely anybody gets enough screen time to make you actually care for them, not to mention show more than two sides of their colorful personas. One chapter you are barely acquaintances, next you are already besties or even lovers. It does not work like this! This is lazy and boring; this is lack of attention to your own creations – something that a good author never does. And I do not even want to talk about our ‘creator’
who gets exactly two or three pages through the whole story and is barely even there!
. Just warn you right away: if you expect anything interesting, abandon hope all ye who enter here. The only thing you get is the worst possible cliché that every second vampire story about ‘the chosen one’ suffers from. The last but not least, what about the relationships? For a Heart's Choice title, which main focus *IS* the romance itself first and foremost, Vampire's Kiss is a complete failure. All romantic interests, as I have already mentioned, barely spend any time with you before falling head over heels for the person who they have know for less than a week. You want meaningful dialogues and exciting meeting under the moon? Ha! You will see one at best (if you are lucky) at the very beginning. After it, everything is so rushed that we jump from flirting right into bed. Oh, and speaking of the bed: the sex scenes are so, so lackluster and short that even mildly pron fanfics from AO3 can offer you hotter stuff. Almost all scenes felt like they were written by an amateur whose only experience with adult stuff are the bad examples of the said fanfics (I cringed so badly during Kurt’s scene that got myself a headache). Why Vampire's Kiss even has the three-chili-pepper rating on the CoG forum is beyond me.
My Verdict
What is wrong with Vampire's Kiss? Mainly its length. The story feels like it was set to be something grand and captivating, but then either the author hit a deadline or they just got bored with their own plot and decided, “Nah, I’m done. Let’s wrap it up ASAP and get some beer.” There is no other way to explain why the book’s second part turned out to be such a letdown. Overall, if you are not experienced with text-based games in general, you might like this story for the several good things it offers: interesting characters, a proper setting, beautiful descriptions, and an actual mystery that you need to solve. However, more seasoned players will definitely be disappointed with all the downsides I described above. Buy Vampire's Kiss at your own risk and do not expect much to begin with - this way you will not be as disappointed as I was, at least. i really wanted to like this game. the first few chapters are great with beautiful imagery of the streets of London and the author introduces everything at a good pace, setting the story up to be about coming to terms with your loss of humanity and whether you choose to embrace it or fight against it. however, this internal conflict plot fades into the background as the main conflict between the two vampire factions suddenly shows up out of nowhere. you only briefly speak to the faction leaders about three times before you're forced to make a choice and side with one of them even though you've only just recently joined this vampire society and barely have a clue about what's going on. the romance is also very lacking and although the author tries to explain it away by saying that vampires feel love and hatred very quickly, you barely get to know any of the love interests before you're asked to make a choice about who to confess your love to. one of the love interests, alex, you only speak to about three times before you get together. the first time you meet them they're cold to you, the second time you meet them (if you choose to knock on their door) they're really friendly for no reason and let you inside, and the third encounter is if you decide to romance them?? it just feels like the author got bored after the first chapters and decided to rush it, skipping over character development and subplots. this had so much potential and it's sad to think it could've been something great.
I would say that the story is good but as a smut fanatic I was kind disappointed that it was not explicit enough for a 3 spicy meter. Instead of 3 spicy it should be listed as 2 spicy and I would not docked some points for making me feel disappointed because the story got the vibe going making it an interesting read. Need more romance also.
All i can say is wow, i loved it. The storytelling, plot, lore, atmosphere and effort put into this story is astounding. Im not always able to finish games by this publisher (not the story writer themself, but other choice of story games), i get bored or annoyed with how it's written or seeming illogic to events, but not here. I enjoyed the battles, the dialogue, the intimacy and character writing, it's all amazing. --Minor Spoilers Ahead-- It's undulgent, i know, but i only wish it were longer! a few empty days where you could socialise with your friends and lover, perhaps a few more events to choose for after the ending? Perhaps reforming the vampiric norms, overthrowing it, or letting it remain (or none at all) depending on your use of the reliquary. And being able to choose your age when you were turned, and other physical attributes? Yea, i had a lot of fun with this game. Hope the writer/s of this amazing story know that they are an exceptional one, and that their effort has not gone unnoticed by me, you clearly went over it and over it and remade and rewrote many things to get it right, and it is right. I can only support this story and you purchasing it. 8.5/10, wish it was a bit longer and had some empty/minor event days.

First off, I really liked that you can choose how graphic you want things to be. That’s a small touch, but it goes a long way for people who might feel uncomfortable. Very considerate, and I appreciate that. There wasn’t really any music or visual scenes apart from the writing itself, which wasn’t a huge problem, but I do think some background music could’ve made certain story moments hit harder. Just a bit of atmosphere would’ve added more flavour. The story itself? Pretty simple, nothing groundbreaking, but still enjoyable enough to keep me going. I actually liked the combat options and being able to customize my character (at least somewhat). Spoilers below:
My main issue was the characters not feeling very deep. You don’t really get much time to connect with them, especially your chosen love interest. For example, after seeing Alex for the first time, it already asks if you have feelings for him, which felt super quick. Because of that, picking a “lover” didn’t feel all that meaningful to me. I barely knew them! Same thing with Fergus; I decided to side with him, but honestly had no clue if he was actually good or not since I didn’t get to know him well. There’s definitely potential here, and I think if the relationships and side scenes were fleshed out more, it’d be a much stronger experience.
All in all, for the price, it’s a nice short story to play through in one sitting. I can totally recommend it if you like vampire themes, moral choices, and visual novel-style storytelling. It’s not perfect, but it’s got charm and sometimes, that’s enough. 🦇✨
I played until chapter 6 (without wifi for most of the game) and the game starts nicely, but it is too quick : in one week, you come from a nobody human to a vampire having a key position in a society of vampires. There are other stuff that have already being said by other people, so I won't repeat them. I am just a bit sad for I was expecting this game, but the story and the romance are not believable, and the plot too much black and white for my linking
Choice of Games has published multiple World of Darkness books so it's a little strange that they decided to go with Store Brand World of Darkness for this title. For a Heart's Choice game, this one is pretty good. That says more about how bad most of the Heart's Choice games are than how good this one is, but it is what it is. I dunno, get it on sale. It's fine.
Really wanted to like this...feels too rushed.
so short, so fast, no sex, no romance, no blood feels like every character has a love you button that comes with about 2-3 total sentences of vague sex the story being described as erotic is a gross overstatement characters get close to zero development, not really possible to feel any real romance play Blood Moon by Barbara Truelove for lovable characters and good sex that actually gets described, you don't get to be a vampire but werewolves are good too
