About

Vagrus is an award-winning roleplaying game with a narrative focus, open-world exploration, and strong elements of strategy. The player takes the role of a vagrus - a caravan leader who strives to survive in a strange and perilous dark fantasy world by leading a traveling company on all kinds of ventures.

A vast realm is yours to explore, filled with unique locations, strange factions, and a colorful cast of characters. In order to punish the Empire for its sins, the Elder Gods unleashed their power a thousand years ago that resulted in the devastation of the realms. The continent is now a wasteland, riddled with arcane anomalies, swarming with twisted monsters, and haunted by roaming undead even after long centuries of rebuilding.

A large selection of stories make up the game’s narrative in the form of events, encounters, and quests. The choices you make in these often affect your companions as well as the world around you. Pick your background from trader, mercenary, or explorer; work for factions, pursue rumors and trading opportunities; acquire wealth, gain fame, and discover hidden knowledge.

Engage in turn-based, tactical combat that involves your companions and a large variety of enemies, both humanoid and monstrous. Use a wide range of character skills as well as your own leadership-related abilities to succeed. Positioning and support skills are of paramount importance in these challenging engagements.

Journeys have to be planned and prepared for carefully, lest they end in disaster. Manage your supplies, morale, and your crew’s vigor effectively to survive. Haul cargo and valuables across the wasteland or take it from others. Your crew of workers, fighters, scouts, and slaves have to be supervised closely to optimize their effectiveness.

A wide variety of companions can work for you in versatile caravan roles, such as scoutmaster, guard captain, treasure hunter, or beast handler. Each companion comes with unique combat skills, background stories, and personal quest lines that can upgrade them further when you complete them.

Ally yourself with mighty factions that shape the Riven Realms with their influence on commerce, brutal wars, and their constant intrigue. From prosperous Trading Houses to criminal syndicates and religious organizations, these groups offer powerful rewards and boons to those loyal to their cause. But take heed - befriending a faction will more than likely antagonize some of the others.

I love this game, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I'm bummed out. Around 100hrs in I softlocked my game with a very particular set of circumstances and didn't understand I had until 200 hours in. I think I need a long break before I'm ready to deal with this burden

Warning: This game is an absolute grind and reading-heavy. I played it on 'easy' to make it bearable and would advise everyone to do so. I don't know why the developers would want to make this game hard ... it just makes it grindy'er ... The game is very clear on how hard the world is you're in. You can't miss it. The writing is very good. And in the end that is all that this game is ... a setting ... a very interesting world that will only open up if you get to work. For all it's negatives it is still highly original ... the world will catch you betweeon their mandibles and drag you in.
Superb worldbuilding, exploring is very rewarding. The playable area is only a fraction of the entire map, yet it still feels very big and dense, and the non-accessible areas fuel a sense of wonder when reading about them in the Codex. The game is hard but not unfair, as with any game of the sort, like Kenshi for example, there are instances where reloading a save is inevitable, and luckily the game saves very often and there are little to no restrictions on manual saving. I believe most of the frustration players face come from growing their Comitatus too big and too fast, snowballing into an unescapable pit of frustration and despair (Lore accurate). There is no shame in downsizing for the sake of survival. My only complaints with the game so far are the same as many others have expressed: 1) More playable areas! I'd love to explore other areas of the continent (Or other continents!) Visit the Dragonlands, the capital, and many other locations that seem so interesting to read about in the codex. 2) Art / portraits in the codex and for more secondary characters. In the codex, when reading about Cities, Regions, Factions, People or Beasts, it would be really useful to see an image of what's being described, such as for the different peoples of the Empire. I think this would immensely help with captivating players that might be new to the genre and players that come back after a long hiatus.
A great RPG with a world that is easy to get immersed in! On some of the points others have mentioned, taking real notes about profitable trade routes can either be a pro or a con depending on what you're looking for in a game, but it also can be mostly avoided by doing the faction cargo missions. Also the difficulty - it can be tough, but spamming saves, (especially while you're still new to the game) will mitigate a lot of things someone might find unfair or intimidating until you learn more about the world. I also highly recommend trying to play slower and get into your character/caravan and the stories you'll experience, rather than just playing efficiently all the time. Try out the demo, if you enjoy it then you'll have probably found a game to keep you occupied for quite a while.
Way to hard to enjoy just keep going thru death loops after 5hrs of just advancing one stage further than the last death give it a miss spend your money on a game you can play with a chance of winning.
Unglaublich faszinierendes Spiel.
