About
Vagrus - The Riven Realms: Prologue is a Demo to Vagrus - The Riven Realms, an award-winning roleplaying game with a narrative focus, open-world exploration, and strong elements of strategy. The player takes the role of a vagrus - a caravan leader who strives to survive in a strange and dangerous dark fantasy world by leading a traveling company on all kinds of ventures.
Vagrus offers great replayability and immersion with its two million words worth of narrative presented through its stories and lore.
This Demo showcases the beginning sections of the game - both from the more narrative-driven introductory part and from the open-world main campaign.

A vast realm is yours to explore, filled with unique locations, strange factions, and a colorful cast of characters. In order to punish the Empire for its sins, the Elder Gods unleashed their power a thousand years ago that ended up devastating the realms. The continent is now a wasteland, riddled with arcane anomalies, swarming with twisted monsters, and haunted by roaming undead even after long centuries of rebuilding.

A large selection of stories make up the game’s narrative in the form of events and quests. The choices you make in these often affect your companions and the world around you. Pick your background from trader, mercenary, or explorer; work for factions, follow rumors and trading opportunities; acquire wealth, gain fame, and discover hidden knowledge.

Engage in turn-based, tactical combat that involves your companions and a large variety of enemies, both humanoid and monstrous. Use a wide range of character skills as well as your own leadership-related abilities to succeed. Positioning and support skills are of paramount importance in these challenging engagements.

Journeys have to be planned and prepared for carefully, lest they end in disaster. Manage your supplies, morale, and your crew’s vigor effectively to survive. Haul cargo and valuables across the wasteland or take it from others. Your crew of workers, fighters, scouts, and slaves have to be managed well to optimize their effectiveness.

A wide variety of companions can work for you in versatile caravan roles, such as scoutmaster, guard captain, treasure hunter, or beast handler. Each companion comes with unique combat skills, background stories, and personal quest lines that can upgrade them further when you complete them.

Ally yourself with mighty factions that shape the Riven Realms with their influence on commerce, brutal wars, and constant scheming. From prosperous Trading Houses to criminal syndicates and religious organizations, these groups offer powerful rewards and boons to those loyal to their cause. But take heed - befriending a faction will more than likely antagonize others.

Old School. Unforgiving. You are not the center of the universe or anything special and should act accordingly if you want to survive.
I tried the demo and will leave it at that. It was a little too text heavy and the constant scarcity was more annoying than interesting. Making the pantheon and founding figures into a demonic trinity and undead apostles is bizarre and off-putting.
Since the recommendation choice is boolean. I picked yes but that should be MAYBE. I appreciate that its free and available for Mac but after playing I understand why its free. IF you like the read a LOT with an occasional mouse click maybe this is for you. I love to read but when I'm gaming I want a game with more interaction than picking an item off a list. I would call this a Visual Novel. Maybe my expectations were out of line after the impression the video gave. I just didn't enjoy this "game". I will not be playing it any more but other might like it. You be you and I will continue to be me.

Very nice! I always thought this game looked interesting, but was scared off when it said it was very punishing. Whereas it probably is in many cases, it's not impossible, even for a nub like me. I am generally not too fond of games that are too hard, so playing the demo I realized that if I take it slow and carefull, it is manegeable. :) So, good demo, hignly recommendable, made me feel like I want to buy the full game.

Good little demo, took about 2hrs to finish both modes. Gives you enough of a taste of the game and stops just as it starts to get interesting which is perfect. The world is really interesting and it made me want to know more. The combat is kinda clunky and the UI is pretty opaque and hard to navigate (E.g. no showing supplies - which matter every day - on the overworld map, but it'll show cargo which doesn't matter). Overall a positive review but honestly I'm not inclined to buy just yet. Id want to see some videos of the game first because i think i'd get really frustrated with the combat and the clunkiness of the price charts etc over time. Definitely give it a go if you're interested, this demo will help you know if it's for you.
Игра прекрасна но боевая система очень скучная. Тут бы что то наподобие The Banner Saga.
Итог: Vagrus - The Riven Realms: Demo (Prologue) — для любителей фэнтези-ролевиков. Привлекает захватывающим прологом и проработанной графикой, но может разочаровать ограниченностью и техническими недочётами.
I came across this because of a review I saw on YouTube by Splattercatgaming and it looked intriguing, but I wasn't prepared for how quickly I'd get pulled into the world of this game. What sells this game for me is the quality of the writing. Playing this game is like being at the table with a master storyteller Dungeon Master. The characters are all interesting with unique motivations, the descriptions of the game's desert, bronze-age, fantasy, apocalyptic setting are stunning, and the music sets an ominous mood. This prologue is obviously very hand-holdy and exists to teach the basics of what looks like an insanely complex and unforgiving game. And to be honest, games that force me to micro-manage every little detail don't really appeal to me, but there's something about this game that makes me want to spend a lot of time with it and learn what's going on.
