i believe it's the best 2d survival game but needs larger random-generated map and new items. i'm gonna keep an eye on updates.
This is a fast paced survival simulator, almost like an action-survival game with no focus on combat. Very detailed and based on reality, but with simple controls. You have to constantly make sure you have enough to survive, exploring the maps to find the needed natural resources not only to stay hydrated and fed, but also to craft many items that allow for a easier survival. If you like survival games you have to try this one.
Most of the survival games focus on violence and how you stay alive by killing zombies, dinosaurs, and other terrifying creatures. Unveil is so refreshing because it has a very different premise: Your only "enemy" is your environment. You have to survive the weather, hunger, thirst, and all other ecological factors. But don't let that fool you in thinking this is an easy game. You will die of hunger and thirst as quickly as a T-Rex coming at your face, so you really have to plan in advance and not just cluelessly wander around. Feel free to check out the first video in my Unveil series. It shows the basics of the game and how challenging survival can be, even without monsters around: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzxQJPk_IBY

This is almost a neutral for me, as there are definately aspects of the game that I like (such as a lack of combat and the absence of an apocolyptic world, the presence of either of which I detest in games). If Unveil was more evenly balanced or offered variable difficulty settings, my recommendation could change, but, in it's current form, it's really more of a death simulator than a survival simulator. If that appeals to you, then this might be the game for you. Some mechanics, however, seem to be fatally unbalanced. For example: Fishing. Avoid it at ALL costs! Why? Because it costs 2 energy to dig for worms, you only get a worm about 25% of the time, the rods cost a LOT of energy to make, and the fish you catch, once cooked on a campfire that costs 5 energy to light (to say nothing of the pickup costs on the wood fuel), are generally worth only 5 energy each. So, you spend a good 50 energy, minimum, getting fishing stuff and end up with a handful of fish worth half that cooked, if you're lucky. Fishing is a good way to die quickly, and is basically an utterly useless skill because of this. It's just not worth the energy it costs. That said, there are other game mechanics that, at least, will keep you alive in some scenarios, but you starve incredibly fast. Even in Subnautica (where you are swimming all the time), you don't starve this quickly. In my humble opinion, this game is just too difficult, and that makes it hard for players like me to enjoy. I gave it a fair try, but I can't bring myself to recommend it. In four hours of gameplay, I managed to clear the first two "Tutorials", after having to restart each at least a half-dozen times. Here's to hoping it improves one day (as it's an interesting game concept), but, for now, I'd advise others to pass on this one.
This is more of a warning then an actual review!
I've watched a friend play the game and was jealous for every minute he played, hence I bought the game as soon as I got home. Never got to playing however; it seems the game has serious lag if you got an AMD graphics card. As such I cannot recommend the game if you got an AMD card, you cannot play the game (unless you like lag as much as a bucket of bacon). So why the 'good' recommendation even though I cannot play the game? Because the I'm still jealous of my friend who can play, but is actually going to die of dehydration right now (karma FTW!). To the devs: You might want to warn users with an AMD card in your notice about the engine. I've tried to run the game on 4 machines: All AMD's, lag fest on all.
This is a great game. It's simplicity belies it's intricacies. Great tutorial series, and a lot of realism in learning the hard way, leading to a surprisingly upbeat death. Extremely stable interface, with not a single crash or bug seen as of yet.
This game constantly crashes and the developer has no idea why. It keep s freezing on my computer after the first two minutes. The really sad thing is that it worked for the first couple of times I played and i am no longer able to get a refund. I have tried looking up solutions but all it says is that the interface has a problem. I have a gaming computer with a separate ideo card not an integrated one. Although, it was really interesting for the first couple of hours I haven't been able to play it since.
This USED to be a good game, but now it crashes on start-up and is no longer playable. It has been this way for about a year. I posted on the community hub talking about it, but nothing. Zip Zilch, Nada. No Solutions are offered. Have the developers abandoned this game? It certainly seems like it, and while I've read that the engine they were using has some issues and that is why they cannot fix it, transferring it to a usable engine seems off the table as well. If I was a computer programmer or computer technician, perhaps I would try and fix the problem myself, but I am not and I should not have to be in order to play the game. I cannot even get a refund since it had worked previously and I had no issues. Looks like I am stuck with an unplayable game. UPDATE: OMG I decided to try it again after f o r e v e r and it is suddenly working again!!!!!!!! Still, I am going to keep my review at not recommended for now until I understand why it didn't before work before or whether the developers fixed it so it can be playable again.
Unveil's poor user Interface and lack of content make it hard to recommend for the price. Wayward seems to be the game Unveil was trying to be so I'm going to try it instead. If you still want to try Unveil wait for a sale.
Hello everybody, if you feel like and have interest in really good survival games, also like retro graphics, then I can only warmly recommend Unveil. A team of 3 people (a single programmer, two music composers) creates something really great and offers on top of that absolutely great, reliable support. A few days ago I reported a bug which is apparently occurred in only a relatively few people. For days I had several e-mail contact, and together we went through a lot of tests to fix it daily with the developer. There's a lot of commitment behind what nowadays is wished and wanted of many indie developers and therefore you should support this with full force! :) Just visit the shop page and make sure to check it out. DO u know other games on Steam which were rated 100% (!) positive? So come on, support the developers and spread the word. Such games need to be more popular and the developers needs to be rewarded for their very good work :) Hallo zusammen, wenn ihr Lust auf und Interesse an wirklich guten Survivalspielen habt, nebenbei auch noch auf Retrografik steht, dann kann ich euch Unveil nur wärmstens ans Herz legen.
