This is a must play in my opinion if you love horror games. All the eerie elements you crave all wrapped up into a nice package of horror. You won't be disappointed. And if you would like to see my playthrough, here you go: https://youtu.be/VJWdw4rlVJE
1/10 Don't recommend this game. Try Welcome to Kowloon instead. I don't want people to think all indie horror games are like this. This is the worst kind of horror walking simulator games. The constant back tracking is tedious and annoying. No running feature makes it drag out for too long. The jump scares are cheap. There are no objectives, just a couple spoken prompts and lots of random clicking on doors and items until something happens to progress the game. You play a generic character, even our missing poster at the end is only a silhouette. No real back story, they just throw you right in to the chaos. It's almost like a haunted house where you are walking though to maze trying to reach the end while people scream at you and jump out to scare you randomly. There is no ambient noise, no build of tension.
Just stupid bloody mannequins.
I have also played an almost exact replica of this game, but this one is shorter and the overall progress of the plot is horrible and choppy. The only reason I knew how to finish the game is because I played one so similar before.
The moment I walked into the apartment and up the stair case I thought I had already played this one. I automatically knew it was going to be cannibals luring me with a cheap apartment to torture and kill me.
Only thing I like is the quality of the graphics. Even though my computer ran pretty hot the apartment looks nice and is filled with lots of details, like the books, cans, food boxes, and other misc items. The darkness of the game was perfect, never felt it was too dark to find my way around, and the sensitivity adjuster was much appreciated. And last for achievement hunters, all achievements are earned as you play.
Unknown Host ended up being a really pleasant surprise. I'll admit, I didn't go into this one expecting much. It was a smaller indie horror game that I picked up as part of a bundle, so I figured it would be a fun way to kill an hour or two. Instead, I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. The game is fairly short, but I actually think that's one of its strengths. It doesn't drag things out or overcomplicate the experience. It gets in, delivers a few solid scares, and tells its story without overstaying its welcome. Visually, the game looked better than I expected. The graphics were well done, the environments were creepy, and everything came together to create a solid atmosphere. The jumpscares were also handled pretty well. They weren't constant, but there were enough of them to keep me on edge throughout the playthrough. What impressed me most was just how polished the experience felt for a smaller indie title. Everything worked the way it was supposed to, and the game delivered exactly what I was hoping for—a fun, creepy horror experience without trying to be something it wasn't. Overall, Unknown Host exceeded my expectations. It's not going to compete with the biggest names in horror, but for a short indie game—especially one I picked up in a bundle—it was a great surprise. If you're looking for a quick horror game with good visuals, a creepy atmosphere, and a handful of solid jumpscares, I'd definitely say it's worth giving Unknown Host a shot.
[[[[ NO SPOILERS ]]]] Video Gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDZcuxcaM5c Frankly I'm shocked these games get so many positive reviews when it's literally the exact same game over and over. Here's a summary, some young man gets kidnapped by a serial killer with a mannequin fetish, low res body horror ensues and they never find you... I'm going to try one more of Redsroll's games and I swear to GOD if I see a single mannequin I'm quitting right then and there and demanding a refund. For other horror games I promise you'll like give these a try: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQTmUby5Dx3i00k2G_j7qILaINagnRUbv
This was a pretty decent short horror game, about 30 mins or so. I got it on sale so it was even better. It scared me a few times, good jump scares and ALWAYS with the MANNEQUINS. Check out my gameplay here: https://youtu.be/GzxO9zs_WPg
