A fun rouge like game beaming with witty dialogue and Wild Guns nostalgia. The artwork, and superb pixel art come together to show you why Randy Becker loves making video games. The feeling of being able to run the first boss right out the gate is a welcomed game feature that should be in more games and not forcing you into a linear campaign. The chip system pays homage to Tetris and gauges how much customization the game lets us have is great. Enemy diversity is neat and learning their mechanics will reward well timed shots. The voice acting is clever and well cast (#KItBestBoi), the soundtrack is bumping while not distracting from the ambiance the game sets you in. Did i beat this on my 1st run? 2nd run? 30th run?... you get the bit, No, I beat the game after many tries and glad I did. Overall, I had a great time and will come back to try to beat my past run times.

Overall a good and cozy game. You will die a lot in the beginning but every time you come back a little stronger. Its worth a try :3

Love the voice acting. Love the retro 90s aesthetic. The gameplay is solid. Shooting with the mouse is good enough. The always moving overworld adds an element of pressure to the planetary fighting. A fast-paced arcade-styled shooter with permadeath and real-time map. Has randomly generated runs, actually fantastic voice acting, colorfully designed characters, and a simple yet interesting upgrade system. You follow the story of 4 self-proclaimed heroes as they fight the injustice of the "Earth Unit" - a collaborative government created by the people of Earth in an effort to keep their dying planet from becoming nothing, but a memory. Unit Down is a really interesting game, and I did enjoy it to an extent, but sadly I was not fan of the real-time map mechanic of how it worked. You would go into planets to fight enemies, and while you are fighting there, the space map would still keep going forward in real-time, where missiles and enemy ships would spawn from earth. I didn't really understand first how to go back from the planet to shoot the missiles and ships on the space map, but I did eventually figure it out. It's a fun enough game, and the fact that it is quite well made with the voice acting, awesome soundtrack and the character designs, it's definitely a worthy game to get and play. Totally recommended!

I'm giving this a recommend, but be warned it's pretty hard. For me anyways, but I suck at shooting games. Unit Down is a gallery shooter like Bot Vice or Wild Guns Reloaded, but with a furry Mega Man vibe. The shooting gameplay is fun and fast, and there's also some light RTS elements to the map selection(another genre I suck at, lol), I like the upgrade system, you purchase them then have to slot them into a grid pattern, something I've only seen in a few JRPGs before. The music is fine, but I could've used a few more tracks. And while the graphics have a certain charm to them, the small amount of pixel art I saw was really well done and I'd like to see what the dev could do with their style in a fully pixel game. I do wish there were some difficulty options. If you like this sort of game check it out! Definitely worth $5 if you need a chill, furry way to pass the time.

Like another review said, it's a good game with nice mechanics and ideas but when you realize you've got so much credits that you can fill your upgrade board however you wish you can go to all the bosses in a row without stopping like I did. Even when you get powerful quickly the game is still fun, controls are smooth, the voice acting adds to the charm and I'll return to get the good ending too and test the more difficult levels and aim to unlock all the drones. If credit gain is turned down a little, I am sure the real time elements get to shine with enemy presences, missiles and carriers while balancing what planet and threat to focus on. I'll still need to check what the hard and impossible levels are like with this though. I also agree leaderboards and high scores would give the game a lot more replay value. Edit: Yup, hard difficulty makes the game a lot more difficult, bosses deal more damage and credits are not as easy to get. Normal difficulty is very good for learning the game or a relaxed run and from that point forward the challenge begins. It's still a good game made by a small team and for 3 € I got a great arcade shooter that's easy to pick up and play so I'm real happy with this. Will be buying the sequel too when it releases.
