Indie horror games are a dime a dozen in VR and the smaller budget titles often lack in certain areas. This one is no different, while you can forgive some aspects of gameplay for these hobby titles you can't if the asking price is $20 and puts it up there with more polished VR games. Gameplay: https://youtu.be/wCxeYS6qm5U Problems: Trying to pick objects up, may be just a vive controller problem but I found I was fumbling more than a virgin on his honeymoon just trying to pick anything up or open. Fifteen clicks of the trigger until I got it right got frustrating. Grey screens, seemed to get a lot of these like tracking kept dropping out. I use a tpcast and the game I was playing before this one and the one after ran fine. But this game got so bad I had to exit as it just kept flashing. Unsure why, although I did push through one flashing episode and found myself outside the cabin stuck like I had moved outside of a map. Too dark, all these horror VR games just seem to make them a little too dark, obviously moving the candles helps but being too dark in VR just looks ♥♥♥♥. The blur, I realise it's unreal engine and in VR you get more blur with this than unity, but at times some of the text was impossible to read and some objects just too hard to make out what they were they were so blurred. I has SS set at 2 and it was still incredibly blurry. I want to play more but the grey screens make it impossible, I thought it was my setup but I loaded a game straight after and it ran fine. Thoughts. Price needs to be well under $10 The belt inventory needs work Not sure if teleport is an option but it should be for those not good with touch pad loco Try sharpening it up so you can make out objects better. It's an interesting game just needs work to get it to a recommend.

I really wanted to like this, it looked like a lot of fun. That said, I ended up disappointed. The Good: Well made environments. Good physics engine. An interesting take on an inventory system. Good sounds and ambience. The Odd: Because the items in your hands retain physics collision, some interesting things can happen. The melee weapons are much more powerful than the gun. You can wear hats however you want on your head since they are placeables. You grab things with the trigger, and release with the grip, which is fine with items, but it also uses this for world items, like drawers and doors. The Ugly: Blurry, I run an I7 7600k, with 32 gb of ddr4 ram, and an Nvidia 1070gtx, yet the visuals are blurry. Options page, as of writing this, does not work. No saves or checkpoints as far as I could find, if you quit, or crash, its start from scratch along with a fairly long boat ride in which you can't do anything. The enemy ai is... inscrutable. Half the time it would just walk by me, the other times, it seemed to come at me from a great distance, and I could find no rhyme or reason to why. Only one movement option, which is head orientation sliding. All told, this game feels like it needed more development time.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers. Spoiler-free Review.
So I was given this key by the developer to review the game. I have to admit, this is a tough game to review as far as whether to recommend or not. The truth is I liked the game. It's super cheap, cheesy horror and I'm a sucker for those, but it's not for everyone obviously. I think the game is overpriced for what it is. I finished the game in 49 minutes and I was being thorough and checking out every nook & cranny. I have to give props to the devs for putting the length of the game in their store description which is a reasonable estimate, although I can see somebody finishing the game in 30 minutes. The game focuses more on creating a creepy atmosphere and putting you inside a campy mystery thriller than anything else. This would be a perfect VR puzzle game for beginners. If you don't like difficult or frustrating puzzles, but enjoy light puzzles and horror then this game is for you. This game is really close to being a horror walking simulator. Puzzle solving is easy as long as you look in the correct direction. All the puzzles are just finding the correct object to put in the correct location and you have to know where to look and how some things function. However, a monster may show up while you're trying to do that so just beware *insert evil smile* The story wasn't great, but it served its purpose. The visuals were good, but the sounds not so much. This game definitely looks better than the average VR puzzle game / escape room game. Game ran smooth for me for the most part. However, the interactions such as grabbing objects were a bit clunky and the game overall was clunky. For example, you find lots of keys but only use a few of them. You have lots of ammo but I don't think you need it. And then there's the ending. I don't want to give it away obviously. Let's just say, I had a laugh. There were also some jumpscares in between and one of them really got me good. So, I think $20 is too much. I think $10 is the better price for what you're getting, assuming the game gets polished up. Rate 5.5/10. I think it's too expensive, but I have to admit, I had fun. So definitely buy it on sale if you want a quick & easy, cheesy, horror game.
UNHALLOWED: THE CABIN is a Free to play VR game that is an escape the room like horror story. It worked on my HTC Vive system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. Has plenty of interactivity. Very creepy and scary. Has jumpscares. Has only walking movement. Warning: might cause motion sickness. Try this game, if you like horror.

Really enjoyed this creepy little title. Very atmospheric with well crafted graphics. Was very, very brief - made the end credits in under an hour and the story line is more or less left up to your imagination, but there's evil out at that cabin! There were a couple of particularly freaky moments... And I'm not too proud to say I screamed out loud at one point! I'm surprised the neighbours didn't call the police. Ha! As far as gameplay, a few basic puzzles that solve themselves. Movement was a little restrained in some places and some objects seemed a tad clunky at times, but all in all I enjoyed it. More of an interactive experience, rather than a game as such. Just a shame it wasn't longer, so as far as price goes (I paid USD$16.99), I think you're paying for quality, not quantity here.
I don't know why, but every VR game I've played that allows me to set myself or a house on fire has resulted in my burning. Also, you can see through the gaps between fibers in the curtains (if they aren't on fire). Really appreciate the attention to detail. My only real complaint is that the belt was a little low on me, and it was hard to see what was what.
Not worth the effort, as previously pointed out, fuzzy graphics is an understatement even going to 200% SS made zero difference, grabbing items is somewhat futile (I have index controllers so this may be part of it) but since grabbing the grip drops items, accidentally dropping the gun when you try to fire is an issue. There is sound, but not when you expect it so it's really odd. Didn't make it past 15 minutes
no sound. hard to move
