The game is good overall, but the instructions at the beginning are not very clear. For example, I had to search online how to make a margarita. With clearer guidance and a better tutorial, the experience would be much smoother. Other than that everything is on point
This is a review from being given a free Key to the game. I liked being able to mix the drinks and make custom orders for people and listen to their stories. It was really nice to see how the characters interacted with each other within their own conversations. The music choices were good, and the visuals were very clean. I will say there are a few nick picks. Point 1) I did accidentally speed thru the tutorial a little bit on the first night, so I did have some troubles until I restarted. If there was a way to bring the help cards again after viewing them, that would help a lot of people who struggle at the beginning. Point 2) Even though I did put it on easy so that there wouldn't be a drink timer, it did seem like I was getting punished for not fixing the drinks fast enough. At some points it looked like I wasn't getting paid for a drink, so I was really confused. Point 3) After the first night, the npcs kept asking for drinks I didn't have. I had to cancel quite a few orders because I didn't have a way to mix them. There should be either a system set up to where the npcs can't order anything you don't have, or a way for you to have every drink at the beginning, just on a small amount. Overall, I really did enjoy the game, and I am going to continue to play it from time to time. Current rating: 3.5/5
At the game’s current state, I'm unable to provide a positive recommendation. A major concern lies in how the game was being advertised on Steam, particularly the looping livestream featuring a girl with a lollipop who isn’t actually playing the game. While this may attract attention, it ultimately feels misleading and detracts from the game itself. Regarding the gameplay of Under The Disco Lights – 80’s Bar Simulator, it unfortunately comes across as rushed, as though it was released before sufficient testing and refinement. There is an overreliance on QTEs (Quick Time Events) and story elements, yet very little meaningful gameplay to support them. Outside of mixing drinks and cleaning, there isn’t much depth or variety to the core mechanics. While the game isn’t necessarily plagued with game-breaking bugs, there are moments where the QTEs feel unnecessary and disconnected from the overall experience. However, I would like to thank the development team for giving me the opportunity to review their work.
Do not recommend. Tutorial doesn't even seem to work. I was able to grab a tray for picking up the glasses, beyond that...nothing. Says use a towel to clean up spills, a trashcan to clean up trash...nothing in the area at all is interactable. Pressing every key on the keyboard brings up no tool menu or such to give you options to select a towel or trashcan, there is no key binding options or such to see if that is even an option. Also no options to set graphics, resolution etc. Game doesn't seem fit to be released. Refunded.
The overall mechanics of the game are fine once you learn to get the hang of things. I wish there was a way to reread any tutorials as they kind of pop up out of nowhere and you don't see them again. The mini games don't make any sense, but they don't really affect your drink making skills or the drink quality at all, but heaven forbid you forget to put ice in the shaker. I think I could waste hours making drinks and running around if this game had anything better tied into it such as breaking up fights, managing inebriated patrons, or ID checking at the front. Sadly nothing really happens around you though. The dialogue with customers falls flat, and as a manager you are tethered to making 3 or 4 drinks for a bunch of the same dancing silhouettes maybe five minutes before it's time to call it. The only time you can really look at your establishment is the morning after, when you are cleaning up for the next same repetitive night. More importantly I'm disappointed that in the game's description it reads that there is "a fully original 1980s inspired soundtrack", come to find out there's an AI disclaimer. Feeding an idea through a machine and using preprocessed material with mediocre nonsensical lyrics is not original. It's false advertising. Disappointing overall. Don't waste your time or money on this. Even for free, it's a waste of time.
The game features neon graphics in the style of the 80s. The vibey soundtrack perfectly immerses you in the disco atmosphere, and the simple and comfortable controls allow you to relax.
The vibe is amazing and really captures that 80s feeling Mixing drinks serving customers and managing the bar feels fun and relaxing The music and atmosphere make it easy to just chill and enjoy the whole experience I hope the developers will continue to delight us with more games like this XD
