Link to review: https://backloggd.com/u/RedBackLoggd/review/1893454/ Tl;dr - if you’re a veteran gamer like myself, there’s just not enough meat on the bones of Unbox to make it completely worth your while. It’s a beautiful love letter to the Banjo-Kazooie’s of yore, but again, there’s a reason we left those platformers behind in the fifth generation: there’re better game design principles out there.
HVIS game is one of my favorite games kinda short but fun but sometimes things that are collected will not be registered still would recommend 7.3/10
Maybe having self delivering boxes isn’t as good of an idea as it sounds. And that’s what this game’s about. You are a box, you go around completing side quests, helping a postal service with its various jobs while also collecting stuff lying around, evading obstacles and maybe even battle some enemies in the process. What enemies? More boxes of course, an annoying bunch that only serve to make you waste time by blasting you off, force you to participate in a boss fight or represent the impending doom in the plotline. You know, the usual. The world itself is full of other boxes to talk to, a 3D landscape to explore thanks to the ability of “jumping” in the air up to 6 times in a row, vehicles to move around faster and lots of collectibles. These include 200 tapes per world, various trapped boxes and some hidden stamps added to the ones you already receive for completing the side quests. Since there are 4 maps including the hub world, you can probably beat the game in around 8-10 hours. As decent as this may sound, the main reason it doesn’t work is the gameplay. The controls sometimes simply don’t do as intended. Sometimes they can get stuck with too much momentum at times, others without enough. You could even get stuck by hitting invisible objects. Moreover, this becomes even worse in the driving sections, which you have to do if you’re going for 100%, as you accelerate with the left stick forward and turn with the right stick which also moves the camera. Yes, you heard that correctly, no other buttons are used to accelerate, break or turn. Oh, and the car can get flipped and take multiple attempts to get back into place, which becomes really cumbersome during the time trials. Adding insult to injury we have the story. I’m not going to spoil how it ends just in case, but it’s nothing to write home about. Pretty simple plotline all around. However, the cutscenes can be kind of annoying to watch as the dialogue scrolls very slowly and you can’t skip each line individually as the button only serves to skip the whole scene. At least you’re not missing much as the lines throughout aren’t particularly funny nor creative. They sound too childish and that’s greatly exemplified by the various NPCs you come across as well as sign posts. Lastly, the presentation is overall nothing spectacular nor well crafted. It’s relatively mediocre both in the models and the background art, having the placement of the collectibles serve as its main purpose. I can’t really recall any tracks from the OST either. However I can recall the 2 instances when the game crashed as I was trying to jump off a sled in an ice level. Considering that it’s been many years since the game launched already and the bug is still there somehow, I can’t see it being fixed at all. To sum up, not a game I can recommend at all since nowadays there’s so much better options available in the market. This one doesn’t cut it due to its lack of quality. Maybe you can try it if you’re curious. I don’t see the experience being that pleasant.

Wenn du dich mal wieder fragst wo dein Paket bleibt
Maybe back in 2016 this would of been an acceptable game as there were not many new Collect-a-thon platformers coming out at the time or at all really that emulated Banjo Kazooie. But in today's age or even back then, compared to any other game that was already out prior to Unbox and in our current year, this game isn't very good. It feels like a first project for a new studio which I congratulate them as they were successful in creating a platforming game but there is not much substance, it is very Average. I first took interest in this product because I thought it was funny that someone made a platformer where you play as a box and to be honest thats where the charm comes from as every main npc has a unique personality. The writing and the story revolve around this concept as well and it contain many jokes about deliveries and other postal references with meta humor. As far as that goes though, it is the only thing that makes this game stand out. The 3 worlds you explore are pretty bland, as they looks like they just bought some unity assets and created a game around it. The collectibles are pretty much the same case and are spread too thin across the levels you play in with there being over 200 per level. The levels in general feel huge and very far apart. While playing I had moments where I was running around struggling to find stamps because of how much space there is. There is a character in the game that if you talk to them, they can reveal the location of the stamp (The things you need to fight the boss and complete the level) by showing you for a brief second a live location, but since everything looks the same, you have no idea where exactly this location is, and there isn't a map you can look at either. The movement for the most part is okay? You do get to go pretty fast and jump pretty high as you have a double jump move that can be activated 6 times. However, there have been multiple occasions where my box got stuck on the terrain because the box rolls and... well its a cube... because of this your box can get stuck very often on certain edges, killing your momentum. This is also prevalent when jumping close to a wall as touching the wall makes you lose height. The Quest in each level are nothing exiting, a little boring and they also make you do the same ones on every island, with the only thing changing being the dialogue. The boss fights are also not that good, the last one was a nice change and probably the only fun one out of all of them. I think the only World I enjoyed was the Hub world and that was because it was not that big and felt fun to explore as all the collectibles were near each other and placed well. If the game would of been more like the Hub world, where it was a more focused experience with good item placements, then the experience would of been much better. If you're interested in the game, I would say just skip it and play something else. Again its not a terrible game, its just not very good and there are a lot of really good collect-a-thon platformers out there that completely outshine this one.
