While marking this "negative" this is more on the "neutral" or "informative" side, it just probably isn't worth your money unless you really want to practice calling balls or strikes as an Umpire in a private setting with no crowds or anything like that. Very, very bare bones. What you see in the video on the store page is what you get. Grip to do tutorial, trigger to play the game. The game is identify strikes versus balls (trigger versus grip) when they fly past the guy toward you. The pitcher has animations, but the batter just stands there. During the tutorial you're expected to read what to do while the tutorial continues without you. Wasn't really a problem, but that's not really supporting of learning a concept where you're supposed to be looking somewhere else. There's no music, and nothing in the way of audio feedback when you get something right or wrong, which isn't integral, but it'd be nice. Not really polished, but it gets the job done. I'd consider this functionally useful if you'd like to practice calling balls or strikes, but for the average user that isn't interested in becoming an umpire it leaves a lot to be desired. There's no "simulation" aside from practicing; there are no crowds, no game being played, just some basic assets. You'll see everything there is to do in about two minutes, the bulk of the value rests on how much you'd like to practice your calls. This would probably be handy for people that play in unorganized leagues, or folks that want to have a teaching tool for practicing without having to get a couple of people to do so (though some might prefer that for the "social" aspect). I've been waitin gfor something of this nature to come to steam. LOVE this concept. The game itself is simple enough and it functions as it should. The strike zone though is a little high and needs to be translated down about 3" or so [Should be from the hollow (below) the knee, to the midpoint between the underarm and the Top of the uniform pants]. Keep this up and please everyone buy this and check it out. We need to reward new and innovative ideas and programmers. Excellent work!!
The concept of this simulation is actually pretty well executed. The delivery of the pitches from the pitcher are easy to read and a very realistic and accurate representation of a pitch in real life. I’d really like to see this built upon. This isn’t a full game by any means. You read pitches and press a corresponding button depending if you think it was in the strike zone or not. An actual baseball game isn’t being played and it isn’t even a whole field. If the developer could implement this into a season long thing where maybe you rotate between calling balls and strikes and maybe even other umpire positions, as well as having the simulator take place on a real field during a real game. I think it would be great! I’d give it a thumb sideways as the mechanics are there but the gameplay really isn’t.
The game can be pretty easily summed up by saying that it does exactly what it advertises, no bells, no whistles. If the idea of calling balls & strikes appeals to you, without anything beyond that, then there's a good chance you'll enjoy the game. Personally, I didn't feel like it would have been worth the full normal price of $2.99, but for the sale price of 98 cents, it was worth a shot. The graphics/animations could certainly use improvement. I could hypothetically see a multiplayer option where the pitcher attempts to trickle the umpire into get the calls wrong. Obviously, a home run derby option would be fantastic, but obviously those things are beyond the scope of Umpire Simulator. Just ask yourself if you're willing pay whatever the current price is based on what it *does* have, rather than what it *doesn't* have. I can't really recommend the game, but I can say that the program does what it claims to do.
for 3 dollars its not bad, but it should at least either look more realistic or have different modes.
