Right, so Ultros. It looks like a metroidvania, and for about ten minutes it lets you believe it is one. You get the double jump nice and early - lovely, you think, we're off - and then it takes it away again. Yeah. Gone. And your weapon. And basically everything. Because it's a time loop, isn't it, so you keep getting flung back to square one like a toddler who's knocked over his own tower of blocks and has to build it again. Every single time. It's disempowering. That's the word. When it first happened I genuinely sat there with my finger hovering over the refund button, thinking, "I've paid money to be robbed by a cartoon." But then the game does this thing where it's so unbelievably gorgeous, all acid-trip colours and swirls, like someone melted a fruit bowl in a lava lamp, that I thought, fine. Go on then. And I'm glad I did, because it turns out it's actually brilliant. Visionary, even. Just don't walk in expecting Hollow Knight, because it will look you dead in the eye and take your legs. t's a roguelite too, sort of. Kill a boss, the cycle resets, progress wiped - except not really, because each loop reshuffles the shortcuts and coughs up new events, and the level design around your starting zone is, and I don't say this lightly, stellar. The world's technically open, yet it keeps quietly steering you down a different path each time like a very posh, very patient waiter. And look - it's easy to design a metroidvania around having or not having an ability. It is a considerably braver thing to design one around constantly juggling them, gaining and losing them like a man doing keepie-uppies with his own inventory. Combat and levelling are their own strange beasts. You heal by eating fruit and, delightfully, body parts, each stuffed with some of four made-up substances, and once you've hoovered up enough of one you unlock skills. Find some Mnemonic Mycelium and you can lock a skill in across future cycles, which softens the whole "everything gone again" business. The fights themselves? Piece of cake. Dying is almost an achievement. But it rewards you for varying your attacks rather than mashing the same button like a caveman, and - did you know you can tame enemies by feeding them? You can. You can befriend your problems. Honestly, I'll applaud anything that isn't yet another Dark Souls tribute act. Ultros is its own weird, colourful thing, absolutely fizzing with original ideas, and no, not all of them land perfectly - but crucially none of them are annoying, which is more than you can say for most games with ambition. So buy it. Play it. If nothing else, do it to fund more of this lovely nonsense. For me, it was absolutely nothing like I expected - and I ended up loving exactly the thing it turned out to be instead.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

As a huge metroidvania fan, this one honestly disappointed me. I went in expecting something different since Metroidvania is literally the first tag, but the whole loop mechanic just wasn't for me. The controls felt a bit wacky at times, some of the animations are a little weak, and it never really clicked with me. I did love the art style and the colorful atmosphere tho Might come back to it in the future but for now, it's a drop for me unfortunately.
I started playing this but then I learned that you lose your progress when you kill a boss? Glad I got out early instead of letting this game waste my time. Please advertise your game a roguelite, not a metrovania if you're gonna do weird stuff like that. Losing upgrades after making progress is not an acceptable mechanic for a game advertised as a metrovania IMO.
Ultros
is a Metroidvania style game where you unlock abilities and upgrades to help with exploration and combat. You know, like pretty much every other game in this genre. The art and sound design are excellent as well. However, unlike most other Metroidvanias, Ultros takes away ALL of your abilities every time you start a new "cycle" - beating a boss. That double jump you unlocked? Gone. Those combat perks? Gone. Map upgrades? Gone. Sometimes, mixing rogue-lite elements into a Metroidvania can be successful and have a good gameplay loop - like Dead Cells. But when its a story focused game like this, taking away your stuff is not fun. At all. And fun is probably THE most important aspect of game design. If you want a good story driven Metroidvania with gorgeous graphics, fun gameplay, and most importantly the ability to KEEP all your upgrades, play the Ori series.
I was absolutely loving this game, The art is beautiful. I love the psychedelic style, the music, the combat. I loved everything about it. That is until I accidentally walked into the reset cycle and lost all the hard-earned seeds I had been holding on to plant in the right places, and the food I was looking for a save pod to upgrade the Cortex with. This is why I hate "surprise roguelikes". If you're going to remove the player's inventory periodically, at least let them know *every time* that's about to happen. Otherwise it's not "challenging", it's just frustrating and makes me stop playing. I don't have time for this kind of crap.
This game rips. Really smooth movement, a visual style that pops off the screen, and just enough friction in mechanics that makes me want to keep poking at it. Discussing some very early gameplay mechanics that may put some people off at first glance People complaining about this “not being a metroidvania” because you repeatedly loop to the beginning and reset your unlocked skills either didn’t do any exploration, didn’t go beyond the first loop, or both. You very rapidly can find ways to lock in your skill tree and find permanent movement and exploration tools. This is a game about wonder and exploration and you are extremely rewarded for getting your hands into the colorful goop.
This is an unconventional Metroidvania about discovery through gardening. It's not a roguelite. The game starts to click around the 3rd loop. That's when you start to understand the game and what it wants from you. Seeds, compost and fruits replenish so dont worry about the time loops. If you're stuck then it's because you need to use the Splicer more and learn the plants. Good luck gardeners and remember you can feed your enemies so they leave you alone.
