(Edit: Refunded. Nothing i mentioned was fixed. Go to the comments to see an illiterate AI-bro dev have a tantrum over criticism of major flaws the game has. [editing your dev response to say i'm harassing you when i hardly look at this once a week to delete your incoherent ramblings + PAYING to clown emote me is hilarious. every day i'm more glad i refunded your slop. nobody's making you "look bad" but yourself.]) Absolutely not worth buying in it's current state. The early demo was great, but this is worse in almost every single way. The bugs & useless pop-ups (Yes, i definitely want you to cut off my typing to give me 5% more bullets. Thanks.) make it nigh-unplayable, and I've got no encouragement to even try to get a high score because it doesn't show up on the leaderboards. Without some major changes (slower difficulty climb being one of the most necessary, it goes from unfailable to bullet hell around ~1,500 score. Why would i ever pick the card that makes more enemies spawn when you're getting bombarded with dozens within 5 minutes?), this isn't worth it's price. (also, for the love of god use a different dictionary for the words. the curses are mostly fine, but what the ♥♥♥♥ is "http" and "oeld" doing in here? keep it to actual words i beg of you)
This game is full of ♥♥♥♥. A lot has been done with the help of artificial intelligence. So this is a refund.
24 Oct 25: I feel like I should update this review since the bugs and frustrations I encountered at the time of the original review have all been fixed. It's really quite an excellent typing game. Old Review: A unique missile command/typing sim. It took me far too long to realize I could choose my power-ups with 1 and 2 on the keyboard, though I still had to backspace those letters out or I'd ruin my combo. Before that I was using my mouse to choose them, which was pulling me out of the groove and leading to intense frustration. To be honest I rarely use the power-ups because I find using them to be more of a pain than actually useful. It took several playthroughs before I actually found myself landing on the leader board, as sometimes it just didn't register. Or the game inexplicably froze on me. Or I got a letter that looked like a u, but was not a u. Or a v. I have no idea what letter it was. Big letter mode feels broken too. The words are bigger which is nice, but they often end up word wrapping themselves which makes it very difficult to determine the proper words if they're close to others. You can play with gibberish or real words, so that's nice. Anyway, I liked it quite a bit and think with a few bug fixes it'll probably be one of the more enjoyable typing games out there.
I criticized the greatest nation on planet Earth and nearly got nuked for it. 10/10
If you've got the odd itch for typing games and perhaps an above average WPM that your friends are jealous of, this is a worthwhile experience for the price. It's easy to jump right into and presents a good challenge with the variety of enemies currently present in the form of missiles. It feels great to end up surrounded by a sudden influx of missiles and either overcome through sheer WPM or remember to actually use all the tools you have available to clear the screen. Looking forward to what more gets added over time. **edit 06/11/2026** There's a lot more to do now with all the new modifiers and missiles. The difficulty can get so intense that you really do need to use commands to clear the screen, but it still rewards being able to type quickly and accurately. Recommendation stronger than ever. Also, to the great dismay of the dev, I keep finding new ways to break things: https://imgur.com/a/PcNO00F
I adore typing games, and TYPE scratched a roguelike itch that desperately needed attention. Dev is super cool and fixed a bug that was hindering my progress within hours of it being mentioned! 10/10 would break my fingers again
A fresh take on typing games that, while difficult, is just difficult enough to keep me coming back thinking I can keep doing better. Has good progression and some good jokes too. Definitely worth the price imo
This game is not made for me because I take too long to write anything. Still, it's packed with jokes, the roguelike aspect is nicely integrated to the game and the whole principle of the game is refreshing to see in a world where every new indie game devs want to recreate vampire survivors 2.0. 10/10 would play it again (let me improve my wpm)
Got to try it out during steam next fest just as fun as the demo. With how many roguelikes you typically see nowadays TYPE is one of the few that is pretty unique and stands out from the crowd can't wait to sink hours into this game.
I am not a great typist, so I am not great at this game. But I do find it fun - I find that I keep coming back to try another round. I turned on the horizontal text accessibility feature pretty quick (even though I'm not dyslexic, to my knowledge). I think some reminders of the controls could be built into the UI, but they're not difficult - if you are forgetful like me just check the settings/control menu when you come back after a hiatus. Use keys "1" and "2" to select upgrades and keep your flying fingers on that home row! I enjoy the aesthetic/style it's going for. I look forward to more rounds and hopefully experiencing more of the abilities and upgrades and perhaps even getting demolished by a superior player in the PvP mode one day.
