So, I like Turf Wars A Snail Escape. I recorded some of my progress in Turf Wars A Snail Escape. Please take a look if you value a more Audio / Visual experience, as I discuss the game as I blast, lasso and dash my way through it; in some semblance of style perhaps! https://youtu.be/QmNZF6SVQyw Turf Wars A Snail Escape is a Twin Stick Shooter with a bit of a taste of Bullet Hell; thankfully, you’re a snail with a very specific, (and flexible) set of skills, the sort of thing that makes you a nightmare to the vermin of the garden glade!
A Battle Of Colors!
Turf Wars A Snail Escape is an Indie, Top Down, Twin Stick Action Roguelite all about spreading your glorious golden color around, granting you the power to defeat your red, green, and black spider foes! You can fire your snail cannon, or drop golden bombs, both of which spread your slick, golden goo around, enabling your abilities to recharge. That’s right: you stay off yellow, and you slow to a crawl; no more golden goo spew for you! Don’t get trapped snail bro!
The Colors: Know Your Colors!
🟨Yellow = good; spreads yellow; weapons recharge, stay on yellow! ⬜White = slow 🟥Red: slow; red balls hurt 🟩Green: move faster ⬛Black slime hurts; stay off it! 🟦Blue slows enemies You have 2 abilities at the start, and you can unlock more as you clear rooms, like a blue bullet, clearing all projectiles on the screen, or a flame thrower like the goo spewer, offering a fun, constant stream of golden goodness! Yum! How about a snail “shotty gun”, or the ability to dash, a feat near Unheard of For a Snail! I like how you can swat enemy red shots out of the air with your slime blade; nice! There is also a frog tongue, spear like primary attack, and an alt attack that drops a yellow sludge producing area for you over time. Each of the weapons changes how you play. While the default blaster gives you range, the frog tongue is a very linear attack, which is good for quickly pushing deep into enemy territory, but it doesn’t grant much mobility alone side to side, while the sword is a slashing melee attack in a cone, clearing an area nicely, but is not as quick at advancing as the spear like frog tongue.
The Garden Dungeon:
Procedural Generation is present in Turf Wars A Snail Escape, and the gameplay of proceeding through the garden dungeon room by glorious room, which you will cover in your glorious goo, feels great! As you clear dungeon rooms, you pick 1 of 3 upgrades after you clear the room. Then, you pick 1 of 2 rooms, these could be things like more survival upgrades, coins, gems, power upgrades, or movement upgrade rooms; powerful stuff like that. There are 4 difficulties, with 2 selectable at the start; you have to complete normal to unlock hard, and hard to unlock Ultra. There is even an autofire mode if so inclined, I am not so inclined.
Meta Progression:
The Meta Currency here is gems, used at the hub shop to gain powerful upgrades like 20% speed increases, +5 max hp, +1 health regeneration per room entered; powerful stuff like that. Once you find an upgrade in a run, you can buy it for good at the hub shop. The gear you unlock for alternate attacks and abilities, like alternate starting guns, and alternate weapons, such as a blade that attack in a 180 cone in front of you, a dash to replace the starting bomb ability, and more, as well as a “shotty gun” gun with a shot line 3 shot spread for many gems. Plus, Controller Support is present too, and good, in case you’d like to get all snail-ie with a gamepad. Cool! Mouse and Keyboard control also felt good, but I went with the gamepad in the video above. Turf Wars A Snail Escape is a fun and creative Indie, Action Roguelite offering a fun and fresh take on the Twin Stick Shooter genre. Good to see. 👍 Watch, and see the indie fun with me?
A hard but fair game where momentum is key. Spread your color and excel as you zoom around the battlefield making the entire screen your color as well as your turf or find yourself stranded in white or red and slowly die as you run out of places to go and cannot reload to make anything new. Good game, I like the variation in items and rewards!
Full playthrough here: https://youtu.be/Mb9Xdw1e0DE Definitely recommend the game it's absolutely a blast the different weapons have a good variety of OPness in each build and it makes each run feel rewarding to see what each weapon can do. The game is definitely a breath of fresh air to the rogulite survivors type genre with interesting boss fights and tons of things to unlock. Game has a ton of quality of life features and plays amazingly.
This is a pretty cool roguelike! Fast paced action with some unique mechanics. You shoot colored slime and you always have to stay on it to recharge your weapons. You die pretty fast but you can then upgrade yourself or buy new weapons & equipment and try again. I had some ui issues on ultrawide screen for upgrades but it doesn't prevent me from playing.
WE NEED CHINESE!!
It's a fun game for those who are seeking a fun evening in a special kind of setting. It feels a bit short though and it gets easy pretty quick. Wish there would be something rewarding after playing every difficulty level to keep playing it more. Still was fun. Hoping for maybe some updates in the future. :)
