Overall: 9/10

Story:
The story here is actually pretty good for a racing game, especially an indie combat racer. First off, it's not a super deep narrative, nor does it tell an emotionally charged or thought-provoking story, and it never even really explains why the world/universe is full of sentient sloths. Instead, it's essentially a rags-to-riches/zero-to-hero story about competing in high-octane races to build a fanbase while winning championships across various regions, serving as a fun justification for the gameplay rather than trying to be anything overly ambitious. What really elevates the narrative, though, is the writing and the cast of characters you meet along the way, which give the campaign a surprising amount of personality and charm. Before I started playing, I had seen in the "About This Game" section of the store page that there was a campaign, but I expected nothing more than a simple arcade racer with a playlist of random races and no framework as to any kind of real narrative. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised to find a campaign that consistently gave context to the progression and made every new championship feel meaningful. Each region introduces memorable rivals with distinct personalities and although there's no voice acting, it still makes every victory feel like more than just another race and gives you immersive context as to how you're climbing the ranks in the wasteland and dominating the competition. While the overall plot obviously isn't particularly complex or filled with shocking twists, it honestly never needed to be.
Gameplay:
For a ten-dollar game, the gameplay here is punching astronomically far above its weight. That's not to say it's without its fair share of problems, but I'll get to those in a bit. At its core, Turbo Sloths is a combat racer, and I think it absolutely succeeds in delivering a satisfying blend of chaotic vehicular combat and high-speed racing. The weapon variety is easily one of this game's biggest highlights because not only is every weapon fun to use, but unlocking new ones at a steady pace throughout the campaign constantly gives you something new to experiment with and helps keep the gameplay feeling fresh from beginning to end. I also really appreciated just how much customization is available for your Turbo Junk. Between the different chassis, weapons, and cosmetic options, there's a surprising amount of depth here, and since the various body styles aren't simply visual changes but actually have noticeably different handling, there's a genuine incentive to try different builds depending on your preferences. Pair that with the wide range of race/event types spread throughout the campaign, and there was almost always something different to do, which helped keep the gameplay from ever feeling too repetitive. The driving itself is also extremely fun for the most part, and I like that the game lets you choose between arcade and realistic handling styles depending on what kind of experience you're looking for. That said, this is also where I have my biggest complaints. My number one issue is, without question, how absurdly easy these "multi-ton" Turbo Junks are to pit maneuver. Not all of them, though. Only yours, the player. The number of times an opponent barely clipped my rear tire (whether halfway through a race or literally five seconds after the starting countdown) and effortlessly spun my entire vehicle sideways became genuinely mind-blowing after a while. On top of that, this game relies on some pretty aggressive AI rubberbanding and generous enemy racer respawns on the track. Very rarely was I able to maintain a comfortable lead no matter how cleanly I drove, especially when playing on hard difficulty. I will say this becomes much less of an issue once you unlock some of the more disruptive weapons like the rockets or the rail gun, since they finally give you reliable ways to throw other racers off the track or straight up blow them up. Early on, however, it can be frustrating watching opponents fly past you despite making little to no mistakes yourself, all while having not much you can do to stop them. As annoying as these issues can be, though, they never completely overshadowed the experience. They felt more like brief frustrations sprinkled throughout races that were otherwise consistently exciting and entertaining. It definitely takes some time to get comfortable with this game's quirks, but once everything clicks, the gameplay loop is incredibly addictive.
World:
The world/level design is another massive highlight for me. Almost every race feels fluid in its layout, so it's easy to maintain momentum while still throwing enough twists, hazards, and shortcuts at you to keep things engaging. Throughout the campaign, you progress through four different regions (three without the Turanium DLC) in chronological order, and each one does a great job of feeling distinct from the last. They all have a unique atmosphere and visual identity, but the differences go beyond just aesthetics. Every region features its own interesting environmental hazards/traps, while the races themselves are also packed with destructible objects and robot enemies that act as obstacles capable of slowing you down if you aren't paying attention. I was genuinely surprised by just how much of the environment is actually destructible, and watching barriers, structures, and other objects explode into pieces as the races progressed never really got old. It doesn't just look cool either; it makes every race feel far more dynamic since the track is constantly changing around you as racers plow through everything in their path. The only levels I didn't particularly enjoy were the arena mode "Recycling" levels, but that's mostly because the Turbo Junks have the turning radius of an elephant and constantly driving in circles inside a confined arena just didn't feel particularly intuitive or fun. Outside of those few events though, I thought the level design was consistently engaging from start to finish and did a great job keeping every new region feeling fresh.
Visuals:
The visuals are another area where I think Turbo Sloths punches well above its weight. It's obviously not going to win any awards for realistic graphics or anything like that, but again, for a game that only costs ten dollars, I was genuinely impressed with how polished everything looks. The vehicle models have a ton of personality, the industrial environments are packed with detail, and all of the explosions, smoke, sparks, and other visual effects do a great job of selling the chaotic nature of the races. Even with so much happening on screen at once, the game manages to hold everything together surprisingly well. There were occasional moments where races suffered from noticeable pop-in, but it never detracted from the experience in any significant way, especially because the game is so well optimized overall. I honestly can't think of any performance drops or stuttering off the top of my head, and I never experienced a single crash during my playthrough, so I really have no complaints when it comes to the presentation.
Music/Sound Design:
I enjoyed the music/sound design too, but it doesn't stand out all that much compared to other aspects. Don't get me wrong, both the music and the sound design are immersive and complement the gameplay very well. The rock-inspired soundtrack fits the high-speed races and chaotic vehicular combat perfectly, while the explosions, weapon fire, etc. all sound satisfying enough to sell the sheer weight and power of these massive machines. Everything comes together in a way that keeps the races glued together from start to finish, but none of it ever really left a lasting impression on me once I put the game down. It's a solid, chaotic, but well-rounded soundscape, yet I can't help but feel that it lacks that dynamic depth I expected from a combat racer.
6 players all-time peak 4 months ago wow... that's must be most overlooked game i ever played. Definitely a hidden gem! It has sloths, great soundtrack and fun gameplay, what else to ask from indie game.
First impressions: a very impressive budget racer and first offering from this game studio. The first 30 mins or so of career mode are scripted pretty heavily, but after that you have free reign to upgrade and customize your vehicle. I've only tried one of the handling modes so far, and it's pretty arcadey and drifty, but maintaining a high speed takes skill, and I found the driving pretty fun. There's a lot of stuff on the stage to avoid though, especially early on when you don't have any guns. I really enjoy the aesthetic and setting, particularly the (customizable) vehicles, these big jet-powered steam rollers. The game looks great for a budget indie and seems well optimized. The only aesthetic choice I didn't like were the (hand drawn?) sloth-people NPCs. The in-game radio is surprisingly decent, and you can play your local music as well. I wish the sound effects had a little more oomph though. Overall, very well produced and polished. As a side note, the game description on Steam mentions online PVP but I don't see that supported anywhere in the game.
great game, wacky, fun, and looks great as well. handling is a bit rough but you can master it. playing on the steam deck LCD and runs very well on low graphics.
Picked up from the Fanatical sale GAME IS AWESOME!!!

Turbo Sloths is an unapologetically strange and energetic take on the combat racing genre, one that embraces excess, weight, and chaos rather than traditional notions of speed and elegance. Developed and published by RainStyle Games, it drops players into a brutal wasteland league where victory is earned not by precision cornering alone, but by raw power, calculated aggression, and a willingness to turn every race into a battlefield. The game immediately distinguishes itself through its premise: instead of nimble sports cars or futuristic hovercrafts, you command colossal, overengineered machines that feel closer to industrial weapons than racing vehicles. This choice sets the tone for an experience that is deliberately heavy, loud, and chaotic, and it informs nearly every design decision that follows. Driving in Turbo Sloths is intentionally unconventional. Vehicles feel massive and stubborn, with handling that initially seems unwieldy, especially for players coming from more traditional arcade racers. Turning requires planning, braking carries real consequences, and boosting at the wrong moment can easily send your machine crashing into walls or off course. However, this sense of weight is not accidental or sloppy; it is the core of the game’s identity. As players grow accustomed to the physics, the controls begin to feel purposeful, encouraging mastery rather than twitch reflexes. The sensation of building momentum, unleashing a perfectly timed boost, and smashing through opponents or obstacles becomes deeply satisfying precisely because it feels earned rather than effortless. The game offers different handling options and upgrades that allow players to fine-tune this experience, making it more approachable without stripping away its distinctive feel. Combat is central to Turbo Sloths and often overshadows pure racing. Tracks are designed less like clean circuits and more like arenas filled with hazards, destructible elements, and opportunities for sabotage. Weapons, environmental traps, and aggressive AI competitors ensure that no race unfolds in the same way twice. Boss encounters and special events in the campaign further emphasize this focus on destruction, breaking up standard races with larger-than-life confrontations that demand both driving skill and combat awareness. These moments reinforce the game’s post-apocalyptic tone, making the wasteland feel hostile, unpredictable, and alive with danger. Visually, Turbo Sloths punches well above what many players expect from an indie production. The environments are dense and detailed, featuring ruined industrial zones, harsh deserts, and neon-lit wasteland arenas that sell the game’s grim yet playful aesthetic. Effects like dynamic lighting, weather conditions, and environmental destruction add to the spectacle, making each race feel explosive and visually busy in a good way. While the art direction leans into exaggerated designs and stylized grit rather than realism, it remains cohesive and confident, contributing to the game’s strong sense of personality. The sloth-themed elements, while absurd on paper, blend surprisingly well with the brutal setting, giving the game a tongue-in-cheek charm that prevents it from taking itself too seriously. The amount of content on offer is respectable and varied. The campaign provides a structured progression through races, challenges, and boss fights, offering several hours of gameplay that gradually introduce mechanics and ramp up difficulty. Outside of the story, players can engage in standalone modes, survival challenges, and local multiplayer, including split-screen and Remote Play Together support. Customization plays a major role, allowing vehicles to be upgraded and tailored to different strategies, whether that means better acceleration, stronger boosts, improved handling, or more effective combat tools. This progression system adds a light layer of strategy and long-term investment, encouraging experimentation and replayability. Audio design is a mixed but serviceable aspect of the experience. The soundtrack complements the high-energy chaos with driving, industrial-inspired tracks that keep the adrenaline flowing during races. Sound effects convey the scale of the machines and the violence of collisions, though they sometimes lack the punch needed to fully sell the impact of explosions and crashes. Narrative elements are delivered without voice acting, which can make story segments feel a bit flat or awkward, especially when paired with uneven writing. Still, the narrative is clearly not the main attraction, and most players will find that the gameplay spectacle easily compensates for these shortcomings. Turbo Sloths is not a game that aims for universal appeal. Its handling model, lack of traditional online multiplayer, and occasional rough edges may frustrate players who prefer polished, high-speed racing experiences or competitive online play. Yet for those willing to meet it on its own terms, it offers something refreshingly different: a combat racer that prioritizes weight, destruction, and personality over conventional racing norms. Its commitment to its strange vision, combined with solid mechanics, generous content, and a clear sense of identity, makes it a memorable entry in the genre. Turbo Sloths may be slow to master, loud in execution, and unapologetically odd, but it is precisely these qualities that give it lasting appeal for players looking for chaotic fun and something outside the usual racing formula.
