I’m not unhappy that I played this game but it is highly overrated. The combat isn’t very deep and just mashing is usually the best strat even against bosses. However the combat isn’t the main draw, it is figuring out how to exist in this world with a manual that is written mostly in a foreign script. I will admit that figuring out what to do is pretty fun to a point, there are twists and turns and unexpected things happen. The game is dripping in style and has a lot of cool ideas and for a while I was pretty addicted but then eventually you find yourself in the endgame and you just wish it would finally end because it is just so tedious and I eventually looked up some stuff to get it over with. Overall a middling experience but I would cautiously recommend it to zelda/metroidvania fans.
Tunic is a good game with clear Zelda, Metroidvania and (minor) Dark Souls influence. combat is mostly dodge rolling / parrying and mixing in your spells for damage. But the real highlight of this game is its atmosphere and puzzles which range from a bit frustrating to very delightful. One other notable thing is how this game utilizes isometric perspective to hide alleyways from you in a way you think would get old but never truly does. If you like puzzles I think this game is a good pick up. Just don't get too bogged down in the some of the more frustrating elements of the game's combat / puzzles.

The game is great except for the huge spikes in difficulty. Not only the crocodile area is too small, they are jumping forward long distances, as u are limited in dodging to up to 3 times, if there are 2 crocodiles, only luck is getting u alive out of that area. Also the flying drones go through the walls and great time to introduce them, in the crocodile tight area! Sure, the first enemy type was too easy, but the crocodile agility and attack area is too much, out of the blue. Most of the game is bumping into walls checking for INVISIBLE WALLS. Sometimes it was a great experience while other times, I hated it. Finally SOMETIMES pressing the healing button DOESNT HEAL, cause why not? Not for me.
I'm a bit late to the party, and now I know I've been missing out. Best puzzle game since FEZ, but better(imo). Maybe because I'm too dumb to solve FEZ's puzzles without help.
Pros
- It gives you just enough hints to make solving each puzzle feel genuinely rewarding - Combat is challenging enough to keep you engaged - Amazing puzzle mechanics - Tons of hidden stuff to dig into
Cons
- It's sometimes quite frustrating to get around the map, especially after you get
Laurels. Backtracking for secrets can become tedious
, and I wish the game had a
Holy Cross input that teleports you directly to the teleport hub
- The UI and font choice feel oddly generic compared to the rest of the game's presentation Big thanks to the devs for developing such an amazing game. I had a blast. Just by playing it, you can really tell the developers had a lot of fun making this game. Sending love from Korea
