Ok, but needs work: Controls: - Controls on both XBox 360 controller and Logitech G920 (wheel and pedals) are sluggish at best. - Unable to re-assign / change controls. - i.e. Start engine: Press and hold A-button 1 second, 2 seconds and eventually the engine starts. - to play comfortably you would need to use both Kb/M and wheel. Graphics: - It's in the eyes of the beholder, but compared to other truck-sims they're subpar. - Using Unreal engine 5 point something, I'd have expected a bit more fidelity. Sound: - A joke! Only engine and master volume adjustable, and even then, barely makes a difference. Bottomline: Has potential, especially the story mode. But as of now - No, I wouldn't recommend. Maybe after a few QoL patches it might be great, but as it stands - I regret the purchase. Of course these is my personal opinion - your mileage may vary. 3 out of 5 stars
My brutally honest review of Truck Driver: The American Dream. When I was offered a key for this game, I was genuinely excited to not only play it but also create content around it. Having spent many enjoyable hours with truck simulators such as Euro Truck Simulator 2, I expected this to be a game I could easily immerse myself in. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing from the very beginning. The first issue I encountered was the audio. Upon launching the game, I was greeted by extremely loud menu music with no obvious option to lower the volume or disable it entirely. This immediately created a frustrating first impression. Once in-game, I found myself sitting in a dark cab with little to no guidance, while the music continued to dominate the audio experience. The controls also felt sluggish and unresponsive, particularly when using a controller, which made navigating menus and learning the controls unnecessarily difficult. It took me roughly fifteen minutes to lower the music volume and successfully start the truck. By that point, however, I was already struggling with the overall user experience. As someone who intended to record gameplay footage, the combination of overwhelming audio, unclear onboarding, and unresponsive controls made the game extremely difficult to showcase. Once I finally got on the road, the weather conditions were heavily rainy, and this revealed what I consider to be one of the game's biggest weaknesses: visual quality. During rainfall, the graphics appeared significantly worse than what is presented on the Steam store page. I spent considerable time experimenting with the extensive graphics options, trying to achieve the best possible visual experience. While there are numerous filters and visual presets available, many seemed unnecessary when the core graphical presentation, particularly in adverse weather, still felt lacking. The audio quality in general also left room for improvement, and the combination of controller, keyboard, and mouse inputs often felt awkward and inconsistent. Rather than focusing on enjoying the driving experience, I found myself constantly troubleshooting settings and controls. I want to be fair to the developers. I have spoken with Hans, who was friendly and approachable, and I genuinely believe the team wants to create a good game. Because of that, I sincerely hope these issues are addressed through future updates. At the time of writing, however, I cannot recommend the game. The audio options need improvement, the controller responsiveness requires attention, and the visual quality during rain falls well below expectations. These are fundamental aspects of the experience, particularly for content creators, streamers, and players who value immersion. I will continue to keep an eye on the game's development, and I would be more than willing to revisit it in the future if these issues are resolved. For now, though, I feel there are simply too many problems that need addressing before I can recommend it.
This is a totally awesome version compared to the first game, Truck Driver. It has a story mode with survival elements like food and stamina. The story has like 40 chapters fully voiced with a great american accent and feel and very emotional as well. You can even re-live the storyline's main "cutscenes" in a separate mode called Cinema Experience. In addition to the story mode, there is a "free roam" mode which is basically a simplified version of American Truck Simulator in which you get randomized missions to deliver. The "free roam" mode is like a standalone game made for the players who are not interested in the story mode. You earn money, experience, sklills and unlock new trucks and customizations by leveling up. The map is quite big and long hauls really feel long enough. Graphically, the game is decent and the optimization is okish. I really recomend everyone to get thu the story mode. It is a nice change of pace and purpose compared to the other trucking / driving games. Edit: I have played all the story and it was really awesome. I am surely going to miss this type of storytelling when I will get back to ATS or ETS2. I wish those SCS devs will add a story like this to their games, optional of course with a click in the settings, but it would give those games a much more personal feel.
I use keyboard and mouse for every driving game and this game is almost unplayable with it. There is no sensitivity to the keys for steering, it is either all or nothing and then you are swaying back and forth. The music can not be turned down on it's own so not great for streaming or recording, Then you turn down the audio so no music and you can't hear the voices talking, so not worth it for the story. I am going to watch the updates but as of right now, I would not recommend it.
Minha live testando o jogo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dj-_lE7HzQw Salve galera!
Som do caminhão
This game runs better than in the demo, even without FSR on. My unsupported card (GTX1660) is still doing it :) To give the final verdict is way to early but i'm possitive surpriced !
Truck Driver: The American Dream delivers exactly what I was looking for—a laid-back trucking experience with a surprisingly engaging story. The progression system feels rewarding, and it's satisfying to build your career from the ground up while exploring the detailed environments. The driving mechanics strike a good balance between accessibility and realism, making it enjoyable for both casual players and trucking enthusiasts. I also appreciated the variety of jobs, vehicle upgrades, and the sense of accomplishment that comes with growing your trucking business. What really stands out is the relaxing atmosphere. Whether you're cruising down highways, completing deliveries, or customizing your truck, the game provides a great way to unwind after a long day.
First of all, I was pleasantly surprised that the Steam version is priced at 20 euro, while the console version costs 40. With the launch discount, I ended up paying just 15.99 euro. Secondly, as a fan of more arcade-oriented games, I really enjoyed the relaxing driving experience. The game is easy to pick up and doesn't demand too much from the player, which is a positive in my book (I used Xbox controller). The story works well enough, but unfortunately there are some important moments where the chosen voice actors simply fail to deliver the emotional impact the scenes are aiming for. Another downside is the traffic AI, which behaves oddly at times and accelerates extremely slowly at intersections and traffic lights. Visually, the game is decent. Unfortunately, it's one of those titles that looks quite impressive on Epic settings, but suffers a significant drop in overall visual quality when the settings are lowered even slightly. As a result, I often had to choose between targeting 30 FPS with the best visuals or accepting noticeably downgraded graphics in exchange for a higher frame rate. I haven't played the Freedom-to-Roam mode yet, and I noticed there's also a Christmas mission that I plan to try later on.. Overall, we're talking about a fairly straightforward and unpretentious truck-driving game that I personally found relaxing and enjoyable. It's a title I would recommend primarily to players who prefer a more arcade-oriented experience.
