As a fan of the Tron universe (especially Tron: Legacy and the sadly short lived Tron: Uprising) and visual novels that are NOT dating sims, this seemed like a good fit for me. Identity's biggest strengths are its atmosphere and art design. The story honestly wasn't super compelling, though, and story should be the strongest aspect of a visual novel. The details around the "big reveal" near the end seemed a bit fuzzy to me, too. Even though the player character is a detective, you do very little 'detecting' besides talking to the characters. I think the game would be stronger if you actually had to locate clues and piece together information. Besides conversations, there's a puzzle mini game sprinkled throughout, which is fine, but it doesn't really feel like it adds much of anything to the experience. The game does have a limited amount of branching paths depending on the choices you make, so I might do another playthrough eventually to see some alternate routes. Overall, I would only recommend this to someone who already has a strong interest in Tron, but even that may not be enough to keep you engaged. I'd give this a more neutral rating if that were possible.
Was really looking forward to this one, but what a letdown. As a Disciple of Tron, you're supposed to let things play out on the Grid, then report the truth. But if you play like that, you'll be branded as the worst guy ever, who betrays his order's code? Nonsensical. One example: You and the head security honcho are witnessing something which is the security guard's job to stop happening. Therefore, I decide to not get involved. Security guard does absolutely nothing, not even making an attempt. After the bad thing inevitably happens - all blame is on me. What? Pains me to say this, but don't waste your time and money on this one.
The story was decent but not great. It's good if you are a fan of the franchise, but as a visual novel it is pretty boring. The music is good but as it is the only sound in the game it starts to get annoying after awhile. It is worth picking up if it is on a good sale, and you like Tron. I would skip it unless you are a big Tron fan.
10 End of Line.
I have 100% completed Tron Identity and I can proudly say this is a mediocre game! The story idea is fine for a tron video game! However, it's pretty short and the replayability is not great. It doesn't help that the gameplay is minimal and you have to do some minigames which are fine but do get repetitive. The lack of voice acting and limited animation doesn't help! Overall, if you are a tron fan, I would say play it out of sheer curiosity but it's not worth anyone's time!
WHAT DO YOU MEAN "IT WAS JUST A DREAM"
story is short. and feels like one of them AU fanfics... I've read better Tron stories from random fans, and expected more from Disney
Was it worth the $5 and 5 hours I spent playing one play through. If you love Tron and reading, I'd say yes. I've been told this game is a prequel to Tron:Catalyst. I played that one on XBOX and enjoyed it a lot more.
It is an interesting visual novel, but if you are looking for a Tron game, Tron Catalyst (also from this studio) is a much better game
Tron Identity is a fun small studio take on a story within the Tron universe that sits outside what has been explored in the movies so far though does make some general references. The gameplay loop is fairly simple, following a puzzle model at set intervals which plays out similarly each time with minor variations to keep track of, but the main draw of this game is the narrative beats hit following through choices that you'll make to guide the story along. Visually it captures the vibe of the world its set in using a comic book/visual novel style and the music has a good ambience to it which lines up well with the areas you visit and the universe it's set in. It's a short game which doesn't overstay its welcome, took me 6 hours to do but the average is probably 3-4 hours; if you're a fan of Bithell Games' previous work and/or the Tron universe then I believe you'll find enjoyment playing through this hence my recommendation!
I bought this on sale with Catalyst. I know it is a visual novel and meant to be short, but the game felt like an extended tutorial. Like the start to a larger game. As much as I want more Tron, I feel like I could have skipped this.
