Building on the series' consistent high standards in art, controls, and level design, the introduction of 2.5D/ pseudo-3D elements has its pros and cons. On one hand, the expanded range of movement does enhance the gameplay, especially noticeable in multiplayer mode. On the other hand, the tracking camera often loses focus, causing some characters to get stuck off-screen—a problem that was later addressed in Nine Parchments. The game’s emphasis on collectibles and the addition of secondary maps were well-received, but the removal of the skill/experience system made the overall gameplay feel somewhat monotonous. Overall, while the third installment introduced many changes, not all of them were positive.
