About
As Traveler entered that forbidden place and approached the machine, the instrument on his back began to hum. Suddenly, it spoke with a maniacal voice.
"You seek to reunite the lovers?" Traveler stared in stunned silence. "Find the three fates…", the mad device droned on - and Traveler realized what he must do.

Traveler's Refrain is a dark song-casting, story-driven action RPG about one man's quest to find his long-lost love and rekindle his passion. Armed with a magical bouzouki, Traveler will face horrific abominations, challenging puzzles, and unravel the mysteries of a dark forest forbidden to all, as an ancient conflict reaches a fever pitch. It is up to the player to defy the Mecha-Goddesses of Fate and find the machine that will reunite Traveler with his long-lost love.

Traveler's magical instrument is capable of casting devastating song-spells as he battles enemies in a gorgeous, smooth combat system. Mix song-spells with elemental melee weapons to produce devastating combos. Show your mastery of music-combat, delivering perfectly timed song-spells and elevate combat to a completely different level.

A domain full of mysteries and secrets awaits! Dangers and opportunities lurk among the trees and ruins that fill the ancient woods. Traveler will meet other adventurers, pursuing their own goals, be they human or robot. He will also encounter ancient mysteries that only his mastery of song-spells can solve, by altering environments and manipulating objects.

Your choices will define how the music evolves, creating a unique soundtrack as you adventure through the forest. The Totems, spells, abilities, and more will allow you to customize the playstyle and face the complex dungeons and multi-phase boss battles on your own terms, defying the Fates - and perhaps defining the future of this dark world...

Every aspect of the game has been created to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience, from the painted art style to each layer of music. Traveler’s voice is provided by multi-genre artist Essenger, with additional voiceover provided by talented metal artists, representing the broad variety and sheer talent of the genre.

If you enjoy puzzles, exploration, and fighting, this game is perfect! Not to mention the beautiful artwork and music. This game is very unique in my opinion. Mainly being the spell casting through music. I find it to be fun challenging my memory and seeing how fast I can cast. If I had to compare this game to any other game I’d say Hades. It has a similar feel and slightly similar art style to Hades. But I will say this game is its own masterpiece. For anyone on the fence about purchasing this game though, I highly recommend it. Whether you’re planning on taking things slow and taking in all the beauty of this game, or seeing how fast you can experience everything. I believe you will enjoy this game very much.
This is like a bunch of old Zelda games mashed together and it's pretty awesome. Idk how much content there actually is, but this game is a gem.
The Traveler`s refrain redefines atmosphere of what an indie action RPG fantasy game can bring to the table. I was feeling neutral at the start of the game; however, as I progressed further and further in this journey, I started to be more and more invested and curious about how this intriguing story will end for me. I became hooked. I especially appreciate the visuals and hand-drawn animation - it made me feel the atmosphere and made me fully immerse to the game. The music is refined, sophisticated and contributes to the game in elegant and well-balanced manner. The only small remark that I would leave is that totem`s ballistic and the coins I get when I hit the enemy boss are same in color and almost same size, so I was a little bit confused to tell the difference. Overall, the game experience is highly engaging. A solid 10/10
Charming indie game with fantastic art. The only thing better than the art is the music. Making decisions on the story affecting the music, and tone of the game is a great addition to the genre. The game reminds me of playing an old zelda game with puzzles and combat. The game has voice acting and is heavily story driven. Still early on will update once i complete it.
I really like this game so far. I recommend buying it. There is great voice acting throughout most of the game that I have played through so far. I also really like the art style of the game. I will update this review after I play more of the game.
Some games entertain. Traveler’s Refrain enchants. From the very first note of its haunted bouzouki, I knew I was in for something extraordinary. This isn’t just a game about a man seeking love. It’s about defiance, beauty, madness, and the ache of memory. It’s about challenging fate not with a sword, but with a song. The visuals? Breathtaking. Each environment feels like a forgotten painting come to life, saturated with mood and meaning. Fog-laced ruins stretch into infinite dusk, while half-lit machines whirr with cryptic purpose. The forest isn’t just a backdrop. It breathes. It mourns. It dares you to listen. The narrative is poetic without being pretentious. The moment the machine whispered that chilling line "You seek to reunite the lovers?" I felt the pull of something ancient and tragic. It’s a story told in shadows, in songs, in the quiet pauses between battles. Combat is smooth and stylish, but what truly elevates it is the music system. Mixing song-spells with elemental strikes feels intuitive and alive. Every perfect combo is a performance. Every boss is a duet of destruction. And as the soundtrack changes with your choices, you begin to realize you aren’t just playing music. You are the music. What stunned me most is how much soul this game carries. There’s humor here, darkness, longing. There’s a rhythm to every choice, every step, every encounter. Even the side characters feel etched from the same mythic clay, their goals brushing against yours in fascinating, sometimes heart-wrenching ways. Traveler’s Refrain isn’t trying to be the loudest voice in the room. It simply sings the most haunting song. And long after I put it down for the day, I found myself humming its refrain. This is an indie masterpiece. Play it with headphones. Play it with heart.
I have had so much fun playing this game. I do love the artstyle in particular and thought, wow, this gsme is so pretty. This game's combat is pretty fun and fast paced, especially with the song system that reminds me of the ocarina or the wind waker in the zelda games. Although once you have a few songs unlocked, it can be hard to remember the one you want to use in the heat of combat, and pausing the gsme to see the button commands for them csn break the pace and immersion of combat at times. I do enjoy the story for the most part, the build up with the Voice acting and soundtrack really helps build momentum and motivation to continue playing. However, (without giving spoilers), I just wish we had more lore/story. Overall, a great game with good visuals and soundtrack and I'd love to see more stuff done in this world, I'd love to see and learn more about the world and its characters.
Traveler's Refrain is game that hearkens back to a certain era of adventure games. A combination of exploration through a mysterious land, fighting mystical beasts, and unraveling a compelling narrative. The hand-drawn art is refreshing in the modern day, seemingly rare nowadays. Anyone who has played a zelda game might know what to expect here: Most sections are separated into narrative guides through puzzles, combat encounters, and dungeons, which will test what you've learned so far. The formula works and most of the implemented mechanics are at a competent level. The games main feature hook its combat based spells, where you play a combination of 4 inputs to cast them. Unlocking the spells is done at a pretty good pace, keeping things interesting as you progress. Some seem quite more or less useful than others, but I could be missing their true purpose. Speaking of that, its worth noting there are lots of secrets and off the beaten path opportunities in this game, so if that's your kind of thing you will have plenty to keep you engaged. The boss fights in the game are arguably the most fun parts, allowing you to engage in using the tools you've earned in creative ways. The story will keep you wondering and searching for more bits about the world, but ultimately players will come to different conclusions. Overall, here you have a wonderful indie game that feels like something you would happen upon during the popular days of xbox arcade. Its a contained story with enough content to be interesting and fulfilling by the end, while also avoiding the teeter into overambitious clutter. I hope the developers continue onward as for a debut title, it's a winner.
Traveler's Refrain combine music notes /song as your magic activation. it has a beautiful hand drawn art style ARPG and a fully voiced dialogue cast. At first its abit confusing to remember all the spells with the directional notes to cast it, but slowly at the midpoint, you will get used to it. The enemy and boss is not difficult to defeat and the whole game its about 10 hours + . Its got a good story and deserved to look into, however some of the gadget did not explain too well, and you might have to try and error to solve some of the puzzle.
