Awesome Concept, Frustrating Execution The features shown on the store page are awesome—they really got me excited about creating miniature train layouts and building cool little worlds. But once you're actually in the game, it's a different story. I don’t know how to set up a miniature train layout in real life, so I went in hoping the game would teach me the basics. Instead, the tutorial drags you through a hand-holding experience so tightly that you're not allowed to explore or try things on your own. Then suddenly, it drops you into the deep end with three in-game emails asking you to complete jobs that the tutorial never covered. You're left to just fumble around and figure it out yourself. It feels like the tutorial was designed for someone who already knows what they’re doing, while the rest of the game expects you to have learned things that were never explained. And what’s up with the three display tables we bought? They just sit there. Are we supposed to do something with them? Maybe I missed it, but nothing pointed me in the right direction. It just adds to the feeling of confusion. Honestly, I know I could stick around, read more, and maybe eventually figure it out—but it feels like way too much effort for very little reward. The core concept is fantastic. The game could be great. But right now, it needs a lot more work when it comes to player onboarding, pacing, and clarity. If this were Dragon’s Den? Sorry, but I’m out.
Another reviewer had similar points as I am about to make, but I feel like echoing them will help others looking into this game understand that they are problems and not just a one person skill issue situation. The tutorial jobs are extremely narrow and the game doesn't just hold your hand, it death grips it. Metaphorically: You are given a paint by numbers and given your paint colors and told to do it. Here are 3 paint by numbers that are the mechanics of the game. That is the tutorial. Once the tutorial is over, the game gives you access to a art store and tells you to go for it, also here are the jobs you need to do: One of them is paper mache, and this one is making jewelry, and this one is making pottery. The actual gameplay of making dioramas, either for yourself or for an exhibition, is incredibly frustrating and unintuitive. Honestly, it's simply overwhelming once you are given the wheel. You want to do XYZ but you don't know how to do any of the letters that come before, and figuring it out is... just not fun. Which is what I am playing a game for; To have fun. I noticed at the time of writing this I only have 1.1 hours which is wild to me. When I was playing, it felt like I had been playing for 5 hours trying to figure stuff out and do what I wanted to do... I was mentally exhausted. That's supposed to be the other way around. It's truly a shame because this is such a cool concept. I would love to not spend thousands on miniatures and take up an entire room to get to build train dioramas. I don't know if the devs didn't have people play test this game on their own without someone leaning over their shoulder or what. TL;DR: At this point, this game does not have an adequate tutorial to actually help you learn how to play and develop a command of the mechanics. It seems more confusing than fun.
For some reason progress isn't saved by the game and you keep ending at the beginning of the tutorial. Building a diorama isn't as enjoyable as I imagined. I would descride it as really frustrating. Not worth any price here.
The game is too buggy to play. I even have to Ctrl+Alt Del to close it. This makes me sad. I'm asking for a refund now. Booooooo ! :( EDIT: Couldn't get a refund because it was part of a bundle. The other game now costs way too much.
Absolute madness with no way to disable tutorial,WHICH is the ONLY way you can play any game, even a saved one. Says it saved progress EVERY time I asked it too (AND in settings had auto save checked). but it NEVER did. Got tired of the madness of saving (losing) and wasting time to be left with none of the work put it when you go to play the next time.
4/10 it works mostly and does what it says it does not my kind of game and i would never pay for it, got it in a bundle + works on windows 7 - missing very basic features like raising and lowering terrain - when using multiple trains on the same track they will stop randomly and if it stops long enough for the train behind it to make contact they both get stuck forever until you reset them - the amount of space you have to work with is very limited. only 3 by 3 chunks of table and each table chuck is about 14 15ish train carts in length if you want to build a set around you that you can walk in its very limited in size. no over floor table to table drawbridge - swamping back and fourth between shopping and putting stuff down.... the system in place for putting items down and buying works fine when you have like 30 items, but falls apart when you have 100+ would much rather the tack building system be like what roller coaster tycoon has + workshop
I thought this game would be a bit like Rolling Line but it is not and Rolling Line is far far better than this. A bit disappointed but not surprised that I didnt like this I prefer Rolling Line.
Well it looks kinda promising... But forcing a tutorial on the player to unlock sandbox mode is the worst thing you could possibly do for this type of game. If i hadn't bought it awhile ago i would've instantly stopped playing and got a refund.
It started out fun, but the side tasks quickly became monotonous. Even that would've been okay as it only took about two hours to complete all of the museum jobs required to unlock all of the pieces needed for the exhibitions... but at that point the game simply became frustrating. Pieces of track would glitch out and become invisible, with nothing seemingly fixing this. Thus it became a puzzle of trying to make a loop with the tracks that I could actually see. I'm forgiving of many bugs in games, but bugs that add unintended difficulty are not one of them. To make matters worse, fighting with this was exacerbated by certain exhibitions (the Wild West one in particular) placing the starting bit of track in a place where only one side of it could be built off of, as the other side was... well who knows really. My assumption was that it had been placed close enough to the edge of the mountain that there was a tiny bit of terrain blocking it. Attempting to smooth out, flatten, or lower the terrain did not fix this, however. Obviously this made the exhibition impossible as part of the requirement is to make a closed loop. I was able to get around this by looping the track into itself and ignoring half of the board, but this shouldn't have been what I had to do. Overall, it was briefly fun and cute but got old quickly and then introduced bugs with seemingly no fix, resulting in frustration. But hey, at least Grandpa's board was cool.
