Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter

Story - OK Charaktere - langweilig, kindisch Gameplay - repetitiv Spaß - eher nicht Eigentlich habe ich es immer nur gestartet, um schnell eine Quest zu erledigen und wieder rauszuspringen, es fühlte sich wie Beschäftigungstherapie an. Aus meiner Sicht gibt es einfach stärkere JRPGs.

only done prologue but thoroughly enjoying the game

Played the original nearly a decade ago and went into this remake treating it as a completely fresh experience. At first, you might find yourself scratching your head at a few modern design choices like quest marker checklists, softened dialogue, the recast Japanese VA, and combat pacing on higher difficulties that slightly flattens the sudden theatrical punch S Crafts used to have. Then Chapter 3 starts and you finally understand the genius of Falcom. They clearly saved the bulk of their budget and cinematic ambition for the final stretch, and it fully pays off. Even knowing every twist going in, the ending hit me even harder than it did years ago. The subtle 3D direction, lighting, and phenomenal Japanese voice performances sold the emotional weight so well that the new cast completely won me over and outdid the original. What makes this remake so clever is how it balances both sides. It gives newcomers an accessible onboarding to a massive saga while quietly offering veterans even deeper emotional nuance than the original ever had. 10/10

It was quite fun, and the combat wasn't a drag unlike most JRPGs. The last dungeon could've been an email though.
