That stupid cat makes me mad (skill issue)
Gameplay wise, the best Touhou. Very playful and original patterns, amazing to learn. It's very hard, but it gives you enough resources, so it's always fair. I played 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 13 so far, 1cc'ed all of them at Normal a couple of times, and I think this is the only Touhou game that has zero ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ patterns that you "have" to bomb. Again, it's very hard, but the difficulty is very consistent. Expect the usual stage 4 and 5 difficulty spike, but what kept me hooked is that even stages 1 to 3 are kinda hard if you don't know what you're doing. It's not *sleep for the first three stages and then wake up at stage 4* like MoF or TD. It's a smoother progression that keeps you on your toes from start to end. Aesthetic and art wise, I like it, the music is top notch like always, ZUN's drawings are cute, but it's not *incredible* like some early games such as IN or PCB. I feel like I love some characters and music themes just because I had a hell of a time fighting them and learning how to beat them, but they are not that interesting per se (Orin, for example). Except the final boss, the only really amazing theme is Satori's, imo. Still, what's better than a videogame that enhances its qualities by its sheer gameplay beauty. What this game does amazingly well is the final boss, a very "cinematic" looking fight, with epic music, super memorable. Probably my favorite Touhou final boss fight ever. To me, this is the peak of the Touhou series, and the true last "classic" Touhou game, that doesn't rely on silly gimmicks, and it's just pure hard grazing and shooting. Finally, a word of advice: learning how to Normal 1cc this game completely blind, without any guide (except for a couple of spells for which I was really stuck), was one of the best gaming experiences of my life. I'll never forget those 2-3 weeks of "grinding" and learning, playing the game an hour or so each day. So, please, DON'T look for a guide. Do it only if you're really stuck and frustrated. The vast majority of the patterns in this game are "puzzly" patterns, once you discover how to do them, you do them well. But by relying on a guide that spoonfeeds you the solutions to the patterns, you miss, in my opinion, more than half of the fun of playing this game, and the Touhou series in general. You're not supposed to pick up a Touhou game and beat it in a couple of hours. The longevity comes from you learning. Trust in ZUN's design.

This is the best touhou game purely because it's the one with the best song in the series: Satori Maiden - Third Eye
