Its probably more a me thing but i didn't like this too much. Compared to other Total war you don't get any post battle loot/prisoners meaning one good source of income is just gone from this edition if you get zerged by ai on higher levels you just have to deal with it. Most come from the economy in this game. The base Yari is so strong that they can carry you through the entire campaign on medium difficulty. The settlements don't display their factual income bothers me a lot too, they show 'wealth' which you tax so they display 1000+ but you may only get 20% of that making it 200 so you can own a goldmine and still feel dirt poor. Units cost their full upkeep even when damaged, tho some other titles do this too just means that even tho this have a replenish system unlike Medieval II you kind of want to combine very hurt units rather than replenish them to get rid of their upkeep even if hiring new ones also cost money. The General units feel weird, they are super weak in this mostly due to a many early units are spears which just melts cav in this. Sure cav was a little too good in Medieval II. The Free estate design of Cities is a bit weird too, you get very few defenders in the base game, semed to be a bit better in the expansion but base you just get one or two defenders at early city levels. In like Med II you had to recruit militias yourself that was free in cities sure but... The Forts are also really tiny, still worth holding them but archers can reach most of the fort just standing outside even if higher levels make it a bit better.
