One of the best strategy games ever made. The atmosphere, soundtrack, and Japanese setting are outstanding, and the battles still feel satisfying even after all these years. The game isn't perfect, though. The AI can be frustrating at times, diplomacy often feels unreliable, and the Realm Divide mechanic can make the late game feel repetitive. Despite these flaws, the core gameplay is so strong that it's easy to come back for "just one more campaign." If you enjoy grand strategy and tactical battles, Shogun 2 is absolutely worth playing.

Great game, one of the best total war ever
excelente juego para pasar el rato y para entender un poco de historia y modificarla
Shogun 2 is one of the best of the Total Wars, but since all the dlc's are now folded into one item on Steam I'd really like to talk about Fall of the Samurai. A lot of the flaws are the same as the main game, so this is...close to being a review of that. Anyways if you're into FoTS and want a review of the latter campaign here you go. FoTS gets the narrowest of thumbs up for me. Did you enjoy Empire Total War? Or rather, did you want to? Shogun 2: FoTS can really scratch that itch for you then. The AI's far superior, even capable of some surprises and basic strategy like seizing high ground or wide flank attacks with their cavalry. The diplomacy system functions well enough, and the unit variety is interesting and keeps you going. The massive, massive, massive caveat to this is naval warfare. Without mods (like disabling most ship types), when the endgame triggers you should expect to find anywhere between 8-15 single ship fleets parked on your trade lanes at any given moment. You will then feel the real life minutes of your life tick by as each one moves individually to bleed your economy still further. If you don't engage in this system, in time these ships will creep in range and bombard your ports, compounding the problem further. If you do engage in this system, be prepared for an autoresolve that ensures your expensive fleet sinks one little cleanup operation at a time, or naval combat proper which requires spending minutes just closing the distance while the AI camps at the back of its own deployment zone. In a sentence, anything to do with the maritime game here is deeply unfun and unengaging. Land combat/sieges/naval support fire is a delight and the tech and economy balances work well. But lord knows if I'll ever finish a campaign of this.
