I enjoy playing this game. It's world map on three screens. You have to collect rich's to help your empire grow. Defend and fight those who try to stop you from winning goals.
I'm not even sure how it is possible to screw up an established formula this much, but somehow Empire managed. It is a downgrade from previous games in every way. Everything about it is busted. Especially enemy AI, which has never been a strong suit to begin with. Enemy armies do endless laps around the campaign map, march right past unoccupied cities into the sunset, or just plain get stuck in place and camp for decades while their undefended nations get sacked half a world away. During battles, it is enough to garrison units inside buildings or hide them in the woods to confuse the enemy army and make it wait out the timer instead of attacking. Battles require constant hand holding because AI will obliterate an entire army in what should have been a mop up operation against a single cannon and some horse. And normally, commanding battles would be fun, but everything about it is an exercise in frustration in this game. From the camera that refuses to zoom out more than a couple feet off the ground, to units that flat out refuse to man a wall, garrison a building, or even stay in formation. The new naval battles are a special kind of hell. Not only do they take an eternity, but you must micro manage every single ship at all times because they seem to insist on pulling down their sails and can never figure out which way to turn to broadside the enemy on their own. But at least the campaign should be fun with the largest known world to date, right? Wrong. Incompetent AI aside that starts pointless suicidal wars against everyone all at once, the game is also full of bugs, or at least obscure mechanics that are never explained. Technology-trading diplomacy window constantly gets stuck on military tab and refuses to switch to industrial or social tabs. City walls cannot be repaired between turns. Unit numbers get messed up when retraining (24 man cannon unit suddenly goes to 96 men). Font doesn't scale with resolution and is impossible to read because it is either too small or too blurry. Units often fail to garrison buildings on the campaign map even though they have enough movement points. The list goes on and on until it starts feeling like everything is broken. And this is a Definitive Edition?! The new campaign map, while pretty, is also a downgrade. Not only does it stutter and freeze horribly when moving around (I once had it turn into a slide show for a good 5 minutes during an enemy move for no apparent reason) but instead of managing a single town, you now have to manage a dozen separate buildings in each region, all with separate upgrades. Except you have to find them first, sprinkled between trees, mountains, and rivers, indicated by tiny yellow arrows that look identical to farm indicators. The most fun, though, is when an errant enemy unit gets past your armies and starts running amok in your rear, damaging everything until you manage to catch them and put a stop to it. As for available campaigns, you have the American campaign which is a glorified tutorial and plays somewhat like linear campaigns in old RTS games. There is also a Native American campaign but it is even more of a joke than the one in Medieval II. You start with nothing, bow and spear units are somehow more expensive to train than musketeers with their uniforms and drills, and no matter which faction you choose, everyone else declares war on you within the first 10 turns - native tribes and colonists alike. Regardless of which campaign you choose though, you cannot win early. Even if you conquer everything, you still have to sit there and wait out the timer to 1799, or 1825 for the American campaign. Empire should have been the best entry in the series, with the largest world map and roster of factions. Instead it feels bland, broken, and inferior to previous games. Even cities on the battle maps somehow feel less detailed and believable than anything in Medieval or Rome. There is no strategy to be found here. Just cheese city defense by hiding your troops, then bee-line straight for the enemy home region and watch all their armies disappear once you take the capital.
Весёлая нарезка пехоты картечью и шрапнелью
Good line combat the overworld is expansive and has interesting navel combat

it's old and it shows during the battles but other than that its a fairly decent game and I actually wish some of the mechanics from this Napoleon and Rome 1 and 2 made it into the later titles
