Like Stardew Valley and Pokemon had a baby. And it's a fun game. It's something relaxing to play in between sessions of more unforgiving, hardcore games. You can play Toby's Island at your own pace. Pros +Good art +Good Soundtrack +Lots of secrets to discover and puzzles to solve Cons -Slow start -Can't save anywhere (there is an autosave at points but otherwise you must return home to save. For the price I think it is a bargain. I've barely scratched the surface but it's something different.
I'm really enjoying myself playing through this so far. the music pulls you in right away, and the maps are beautiful with lots to look at and explore. the menus are intuitive and well designed, and im looking forward to playing the rest of the way through. lots of nostalgia so far too. feels like a lot of boyhood favourites wrapped into one.

Toby rules.
A passion project done by a solo dev. Game's huge, with big story, lots of content and areas to explore. Impressive work! Art style, while perhaps not flashy, it's very nicely done and consistent throughout. One suggestion for the dev: you should enable the Steam Overlay, or at the very least remove the F12 functionality to return to the Main Menu. I like taking screenshots of games usually, and you can imagine what I felt when I tried it in Toby's Island and realized I lost time because I hadn't saved in a while.
okay so far and bit spoiler when i saw teleport back home is bug teleport back cave
It's a pretty good game. I'm not sure why there are only 7 user reviews so far. It does have a bit of a flash game vibe, but the adventure elements are strong and there's quite a lot to do. I bought it back in the early access period, and played a little, and I'm surprised to see it's still being updated. I think I'll enjoy it again. It might be hard to call it a masterpiece, but it's definitely a well-made game worth playing.
Delightful 2D game! As someone who struggles with motion sickness, I'm always on the lookout for 2D games that are fun and engaging, and this is one of them! There's a solid story line, and the characters you meet are rich and distinct. Along the way, there's lots to do: build up your town and farm, nurture your team of creatures (a la Pokemon), fight the bad guys, and a couple mini-games thrown in to (lightly) test your gaming skills. Great game for those who enjoy both raising a combat-ready team and stockpiling a home base from which to start all your adventures. Other bonuses include (but not limited to) several QOL updates in the past few months. There's changeable difficulty settings, so you can either play the game vanilla or control things like inventory size to play an easier version. There have been teleports added which is incredible for all my fellow foragers and prepare-ers who like to make sure the bag is stocked up before heading to the next section. It seems that there's room for expansion, and that more updates could be coming in the future. I personally really enjoy the art as well. Sometimes it feels like 2D games don't get the same level of attention to art as 3D games do, but Toby's Island has a lot of really nice artwork for the characters to the maps. The game also has controller support (see the Discussions page if it's not working off the bat - the dev made a post on how to fix it), which I found to be pretty intuitive, but you can edit the button mapping if you so choose. Overall, a charming game that isn't too challenging, and has a great variety of things to do!
