About

Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts have peculiar jobs: They give people another chance to live, all the way from the very beginning... but only in their patients' heads.

Due to the severity of the operation, the new life becomes the last thing the patients remember before drawing their last breath. Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives, but didn’t.
This particular story follows their attempt to fulfill the dream of an elderly man, Johnny.

With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.
And Johnny's last wish is, of course... to go to the moon.

If the memories that explain your identity, personality, deepest hopes, and the way you show up in this world, faded away, what parts of you would still remain? Imagine living inside your "perfect dream", and you never discover that it is not real. Would your happiness be "fake"? or would it still be as valuable regardless of its source? You might spend years or even decades of your life chasing dreams, relationships, or in this case "the moon" without fully remembering why. Until you hear a melody, smell a special scent, or see something that could be as far away as the stars, or as close as the lighthouse beside your home. If you forgotten why you began, what is it that keeps leading you forward? The game whispers these questions, along with several other genuine ones, and refuses to give you an answer. It suggests that you should have your own interpretation of the world. It points to the idea that there's the world as it is, and there's the world we carry within ourselves. We don't just live through events; we live through the stories we tell ourselves about them. Highly recommended.

I discovered this when I asked Chatgpt what the most depressing games of all time were and needless to say, I have never felt this much emotion from a game ever in my life. To the Moon is short and sweet, filled to the brim with a bittersweet story that hits all right places, and a beautiful soundtrack that fits in perfectly with every scene. Being a 2D story-heavy game, gameplay wise, there isn't much but you shouldn't care if you want to play this. 10/10 cried at the end
