About
You’re a moth on a brutal pilgrimage to meet god. Jump carefully: every chasm is a chance to fall right back to the beginning. When you see the spider, hide. It can hear your little footsteps.

The game is one big vertical level, which means you can fall right back to the beginning. We didn't make it to be cruel. We like that sweaty-palms feeling you get when you know the stakes are high. It’s a spicy feeling. We think you’ll like it too.

The spider roams the whole map. If it sees or hears you, it will chase you. If it catches you, you die. You cannot fight it, your only hope is to hide where it can’t get you.

Controls are simple to learn but deep and expressive once you get to know them. And especially once you get the double jump :)
One giant vertical level.
Every inch of "progress" is saved, forward and backward.
Condescending commentary from God.
2-7 hours of pain and suffering playtime. Only one person has beaten this game in under 1.5 hours. Most people take around 5.
Full control remapping.
Almost full controller support. The only reason it's not listed that way is the graphics menu doesn't work with a controller - everything else does!
Slo-Mo mode, useful for new players to the genre, or for experts to practice tricks.
Optional challenge modes:
"No jump preview" mode which basically turns the game into Double Jump King. "Darkness" mode, where you'll need to memorize the map to succeed. Built-in speedrun timer, if you're into that kind of thing.

A great game! Immersive art and music come together to support some really rewarding mechanics in To The Flame. If you enjoy games with satisfying and consistent movement, definitely pick this one up as it is easily worth the $5 (don't let my Steam hours fool you, I've probably played nearly ten hours of this game on itch.io). The map design is challenging enough to be rewarding to conquer, but not so sadistic to make you question its existence. I'm happy to finally see this game get released!
Short but sweet kaizo platformer with cool moth lore. ...I think this one is actually worth playing for the writing, as well as some fun platforming and excellent aesthetics. It is mercifully short, though, so short that the trailer shows most of the areas in the game. The double jump mechanic has good depth to it which makes me wish the game was longer. I still recommend it though, it's a refreshing twist on Jump King's rhythm-based platforming. You will struggle, you will fall, you will get screwed over by the placement of the spider... But as much as I hated him I think the spider is a really cool addition to a genre that is normally devoid of any monsters.
This game was fantastic!!! I was a little bit addicted to it when I first started playing it about a week after downloading it. I know that part of the game is meant to be frustration, but to be honest, I never found it frustrating even when I fell; every time, I felt like I was still getting farther and getting more comfortable with the mechanics, so there was nothing discouraging about the fall. I also really enjoyed the ending, it reminded me of a poem I like a lot called "the lesson of the moth by archy." Adorable character art, beautiful backgrounds, fantastic gameplay - would definitely recommend!!
Nice fun little game. If you like platforming with some sort of mastery in movement or just a challenge (or pain and suffering), i do recommend.
quick and fun lil mof game
really cool
I played the early version for at least a few hours on itch. It was a lot of fun screen sharing and racing with friends and stuff. I never actually beat it until I picked up the steam version. Really beautiful art. Has a real nostalgic feel to it for some reason. The whole experience was nice and polished. I fell a lot towards the end of the game, but ultimately I'm very satisfied now that I've beaten it! Once you've mastered a lot of the jumps it's strangely cathartic to cruise back up to where you were before you fell. If you're looking for a single player purely skill based thing to focus on this is a nice way to get into a flow state for a while!
