**UPDATE 5/18/26** **Dev graced us with an update that still has no release timeline 2+ years later, Only thing of note is that it will release here a week after Patreon gets its release. Still Claims to be working on AVN so who knows.... ** Dev has been in development of the 2nd half of volume 2 for over a year and half. Only posts to patreon. As of writing this review , there in NO rough estimate as to when or even how far along he is in development. Sorry to say but this has all the marking of the typical AVN cash grab where the dev runs to Patreon and stops caring about the Steam audience..

It has no animations, but worst of all, there hasn’t been any new content for nearly 2 years now.

[h1]A Persona Review of To Be a King: Volume 1[/h1] [h3]Overview[/h3] [b]To Be a King[/b] is an AVN game - duh. if you're reading this, you already scrolled past the descriptions and are now looking for honest reviews. TL;DR - horny old man (MC) creates a harem and bounces his way through a Roman Empire-esque world full of intrigue and hot ladies. The longer version... You see, to me, there are two AVN types - those with story, and those that are just p*rnfests. I'm not saying the latter is worse than the former; it's best to know what to expect when going in (pun intended). There is a deep story here, with characters that have depth and breadth and it feels like there is a world at play that is beyond the control of the MC, which is great. No one-dimensional stories with just filler to click through between "THE SCENES" - you know what I mean. It's engaging and worth the time. [h3]Graphics[/h3] Impressive. Character designs are on point. From younger to older, the characters look like they should and are not caricatures nor poorly-designed stick figures like in some AVNs. [h3]Sound[/h3] I've no idea. I play with sounds muted. Just being honest. Last thing I need is "OHHH GODDDDDS GIVETH ME YON STUDLY LANCE MY KINNGGGGGG" at high volume. Not that this is a line in the game; I've no idea. So yeah, sorry. I find a lot of sounds in AVNs to be annoying anyway and I just use my imagination. [h3]The 'Action'[/h3] Believable. Yet, kind of terrifying at the same time. The MC is an older gent...I cannot recall how old, but in his 30s or 40s. So going after women in their very late teens (legal in our day here of course, but old maids by standards of the Roman Empire) to their 40s. It's not a bad design choice; rather, it's just different, because a lot of AVNs are always having the MC as a guy in their early 20s. With that in mind, the adult scenes are good. For me it's a little weird with a 40-something dude getting it from a 20-something woman, but hey, to each their own I suppose. And I can't fault the designs as they're entertaining. [h3]Choices[/h3] Honestly, there are few choices in this game that don't feel like they have an impact. So many AVNs out there are click-through fests, where you're just click-click-click to get the next line of dialogue, and give you few if any actual choices. And when they do, the choices do not really matter. Here, it feels like many of the choices you have to make - and there are quite a few - have a significant impact on the story. Which feels like a great deal of replayability, something unusual in many AVNs. [h3]Conclusion[/h3] You already saw I recommended this one. As long as you're okay with your MC being older and enjoy Roman Empire-type of Machiavellian intrigue...the kind you'd find in a court of rulers...you will really enjoy this game, and therefore, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Honestly, I enjoyed the game quite a bit and was really looking forward to the rest of it. As the developer is been claiming to still be working on it but not providing anything to prove it, or even posting anywhere other than Patreon (other people posting those updates in the steam community page, I cannot, in good faith, recommend this game.

Задумка мне очень понравилась, я ожидал интересного сюжета, но диалоги тут, будто я читаю текст третьекласника, который играет в пластмассовые игрушки и озвучивает свои действия, настолько они плохи и нереалистичны. Сюжет, мягко говоря, растянут. Все это выглядит как постановка на римскую империю, чем на что-то серьезное. Мы тут пытаемся в политику, в интриги, но когда у нас умирает целый император, то что делает глава его охраны, блокирует дворец? Проводит экстренное расследование? Нет, идет домой спать. И когда он приходит домой, его уже там ждут вооруженные люди. А где, спрашивается, охрана прославленного генерала и начальника охраны имперского дворца? А что делает наш герой, когда похищают одну из принцесс императора? Проводит экстренные меры, запрашивает закрытие ворот города, для того чтобы был хоть какой-нибудь шанс не выпустить похитителей из города? Начинает шмон во всех криминальных кругах города? Нет, бродит по городу несколько дней в надежде, я не знаю, встретить похитителей на улице, наверное. И куча таких моментов, которые выбивают тебя из повествования. А ещё и сцены однообразны, не только эротические, но и обычные. Все на одних локациях, персонажи просто говорят, одна сцена тренировки, две с половиной сцены массовых мероприятий. Анимаций в секс-сценах НЕТУ. Это полбеды, но делать сцену секса на 6 слайдов (а иногда ухитряясь и на 3). Нет, конечно, кто-то успевает за это время насладиться. Мне этого оказалось слишком мало. Вроде у большинства девушек свой неповторимый характер, это определённо круто. Вот только почему постельные сцены у всех одинаковые? Потрогали, пальчиками поиграли, полизали-пососали, девушка кончила, ГГ отстрелялся. Всё, никаких пунктов не забыл? Думал, хоть у старшей принцессы будут различия (из-за 1-й сцены, где было какое-то подчинение), но нет, всё по списку, всё по плану. Честно, игра бы только выиграла, если бы в постели они были так же разнообразны, как по характеру. Это у нас гаремник, и все женское население континента, от подростков до пенсионерок, хотят с ним переспать. Только вот где несовместимость характеров, вкус ГГ, его особые запросы, да просто намек на что-то припоминающее ухаживание, переживания и т. д. Этого нет. Из плюсов только потенциальный гарем размером с Гарлем. Старые, молодые, кривые, косые — на любой вкус. Их реально много. И большинство из них лучезарно-миловидны, как продавщицы в отделе кисломолочной продукции.

스토리에 상당히 공을 들인 듯한 게임인 것 같으나 선택지가 너무 많고 대화량도 너무 많아 몰입도가 떨어짐. 뭐 떡신도 뭔가 이질감? 어색함? 암튼 말로 표현이 안되는 뭔가 걸리는 느낌이 있음. 암튼 전체적인 감성이 양계장에서 계란을 세척하고 소비자에게 전달해야 하는데 세척 안하고 소비자에게 전달한 느낌이랄까 암튼 거 글로 표현하기 힘든 무언가가 있음.

I don't have enough thumbs to give TBAK all the "thumbs up" it truly deserves. Let me dispense with the lack of animations immediately -- while I'm sure many, many AVN fans consider animations essential to adult content, every other aspect of TBAK makes animations easy to live without. Anatomy artwork is exquisite and evokes plenty of adult content. The story is intriguing, with enough twists and turns to keep you wondering what will come next. The abundance of truly beautiful women, animated or not, provides a variety of physical attractions not present in lesser titles. There is a surprising breadth and depth of character development in more than just a few main characters, leading to a great level of replayability, even in its unfinished state, focusing on different makeups and limitations on your choice of harem members. While we don't yet know what will result from the "Harem Status" factor, I would like to see more obvious conflicts among harem members (which may be coming in the future). Which brings me to the final recommendation - TBAK is a good GAME! - not just an excuse for adult content. It appears there is still much of the game aspect to be developed and delivered, and I am truly looking forward to that. TBAK is one of the centerpieces of my sizable collection of AVNs and (if it isn't already obvious) I HIGHLY recommend it.

Short and simple answer is that in my humble opinion, this AVN is a solid 7.5/10 and a great addition for anyone who likes a lil more story, intrigue, and politics with there spicy stories. While not breathtaking visually the graphics are still overall good. It's a fun period piece for the genre and I wish there was more of them. For the most part it has a really good story, decent pacing, good political intrigue. Though far from perfect it keeps getting better and better with each new update/add on. After playing the newest chapter I raised it from C tier to B tier on my ranking chart. only negatives are that none of the spicy scenes are animated and that some of the dialogue could be better
