2D games that get a 3D conversion are often worthwhile, and especially when this conversion is immediately VR compatible it brings us some extra fun to the challenges. A 2D character cutting trees at high speeds will be more impressive once you've been in his shoes, and that's now possible with Timberman VR. Early Access Gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7krHJ5iEc9o 'Kung Fu Chopping' - 'Kung Wood Chop' whatever you want to call it, playing this game will bring out both the woodcutter and the ninja in you, Enjoy fast paced woodcutting action using your motion controls, chop and punch the tree with all its branches to pieces but also be careful not to chop everything off indiscriminately because in addition to the cute squirrels that you are not allowed to touch, there are countless other things that are not as friendly when you hit it or when you it doesn't hit the right way. If you wish you can start the game with a tutorial that teaches you everything step by step, I can only recommend it to you. In addition to the tutorial, you can choose between a campaign and arcade mode, and the campaign unlocks new levels that also place you in the middle of all annual seasons, the environments are therefore made up seasonally. Besides a battle for the best scores, you can also unlock new tools that make it even more comfortable to do your thing precisely and without damage. If I may give you a tip, often following the rhythm of the background music will be a good tool to practice your swings and chops more accurately.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/olfXn3LSCsA Is Timberman VR worth .79 cents? Yeah, I think so. It's a pretty good deal at that price. It's a nice little mini-game for VR. It can get quite hectic and you do get a good work. While this is ostensibly a tree chopping mini-game, it really is closer to a music action rhythm game. You do swing your axe to the beat of the music to get bonus points. You can swing your axe on the tree or use the blunt side to knock things out (either from the side for 2 sided axes or on the back for one-sided axes). You swing your offhand machete to knock down the branches, although you can also use your axe, but you have to be accurate and hit it right on or you'll whiff, that's why the machete is better for branches. You can also double swing on armor plated parts of the tree. When you swing your axe on the tree, you have to swing on the direction indicated, to the beat of the music for bonus points. There's also squirrels or bee hives on the branches and you're supposed to hit the squirrel with the machete, but away from the beehive. That's pretty much the game in a nutshell. Obviously, the farther you go, the faster and more accurate you have to be. If you swing on a bomb or cuckoo clock with your axe instead of pushing, it's probably game over immediately. The main problem with the game is the music ... it's bad. It also doesn't have enough variety with only a few tracks. You will grow to hate the music as much as I already do the longer you play this game, even if you thought it was okay at first. There are some unlocks, but they are used in arcade mode. Arcade mode you select the difficulty & map & you can use different equipment. The other main problem with the game is the maps are very generic & not pleasant to look at. So I think the gameplay is fun enough for at least an hour or two. You do get a good workout. However, the bad game music soundtrack, slim pickings, & bland maps bring the whole experience down. Plus I did experience a bug, after buying my Viking machete & 2 sided Viking axe, the game was stuck in an infinite loading screen in campaign mode. Fortunately, simply going back to the default equipment stopped the infinite loading screen problem. Sale Price Rating 6.5/10. It is definitely a good deal at .79 cents, but I don't think I would recommend this at the normal $7.99 USD price
If you enjoyed my review, please consider joining my Steam Curator Group. I love the game play! I was concerned it might not be fast enough, but it is! The user interface is a bit quirky so I give it a meh. Overall love it! I think its well worth the asking price.

its hard to get in the groove when sometimes things are on the branch just outside your field of view and you hear the sound that tells you that you messed up. controls feel weird because the tools have their own physics and if your cut isnt deep enough it just says try again. at the beginning you have an axe in one hand and a machete in the other and you cant cut the logs with both tools. I hope there might be something where you an dual wield axes but until I see an update making the experience better I'm gonna refund.
gra jest wciągająca, relaksująca ale także wymagająca
Not impressed, this game has potential but with the controls not being very user friendly and ax not swinging the way you are swinging it makes for a very unattractive game. The user interface is very odd and not very user friendly. On a side note you can sit and try and swing. In order for my character to even be remotely at the right height I had to say I was sitting down .
It is always important to give a description of physical fitness/demand when reviewing a VR game. I am a very overweight 30-something man, but otherwise have no serious illnesses. This game is sufficiently physically demanding that I cannot do much else for some time if I play this. This game is very physically intense. I absolutely do not recommend this for anyone who is not prepared for a serious workout. This game has options to play in a chair. I recommend strongly against that. You should be standing while playing this. As the description says, Timberman VR is a game that is very easy to learn, but extremely difficult to master. You play as the titular Timberman on his quest to take vengeance against a nearby forest. You line your axe up and chop in the direction of the arrow. If you cut in the wrong direction, the tree curses you to death. Sometimes you have to cut branches - either with your axe or the machete in your off-hand - before you can cut the tree. Sometimes there are squirrels and beehives on these branches. Hitting bees hurts you, hitting squirrels gives you a shield against mistakes - I assume that this is because Timberman turns the squirrel into an anti-tree salve or something. Parts of the tree can be replaced with bombs or cuckoo clocks - which you have to smack away with the blunt of your axe before they destroy you. There's a campaign mode, where all of the elements are toned down. The campaign mode might lead one to believe that the game is casual. However, the bulk of the game is the arcade mode - which is deeply unforgiving on the mode where you can actually upload a score. Due to the presence of the tree, you are constantly drained by the tree curse, and the only way to keep the tree's curse away is to cut the tree repeatedly. You do this until your inevitable death. The drain speeds up as the game progresses in time, making it very difficult to last even 5 minutes. Keeping yourself alive during this time is a very sweaty affair. The game feels mechanically buggy. The tolerances for cutting down the tree are somewhat tight - you really do need to hit the tree at a good angle in order for your hit to count. The weapon tracking feels sluggish in the arcade mode - if you hit at a slightly bad angle, then your axe doesn't really "snap" back to your hand once it's in a good position. About 1 in 200 chops, I observe that my axe either glances off the front of the tree or it fails to notice I've hit the tree. I suspect that the dev would say that my precision is a little bad, but I have not had a problem like this in other games. It's easily the most frustrating part of the game. (Update: I've learned this is due to me hitting the log before the game considers the log destructible.) As a game, I would give this a miss. There's a lack of polish that makes the game feel unrewarding, which isn't good. Moreover, the combination of the game billing itself as a "casual" game and the rather high difficulty of the arcade mode is questionable. This makes it a little reminiscent of Winnie the Pooh's Home Run Derby, in the sense that it looks like it is supposed to be a casual game but the bulk of the game is...not. As a workout, this is significantly more valuable - a 1 hour play session where you play the arcade mode is enough to wear anybody reasonable out. The speed you need to go at to keep chopping away for more than 2 minutes is pretty intense, and maintaining focus during this is not particularly easy. This game is actually quite amazing for someone looking for an intense workout, and for such people I would suggest this game without much hesitation. I feel as if the devs wanted to build a normal, casual game and accidentally made something that's one of the more physically intense workout games on Steam. This makes it hard to recommend to someone who has found the game and is looking for something light. If you're reading this, then that's probably you - which is why this review is marked negative. However, there is certainly an unintended audience which this game likely appeals to - if you are part of this audience, then you should certainly ignore the above review and enjoy becoming a very sweaty timberman.
