Short review for a short game: If the levels in Tick Tock Bang Bang were trimmed down by half I'd recommend this more easily. It seemed every few levels surprised you with an interesting or clever design, the other half were dull or repetitive. Tick Tock Bang Bang could use some music, the strange ambient water trickle and other sounds that slow or speed up with you are eerie. Don't buy this looking for a Super Hot clone (and definitely not a clone that is super hot) because you won't find it here. Buy this if you'd like a quick casual game or another 100%. I'd rate this as neutral but that's not an option.
Tick Tock Bang Bang is a time manipulating FPS where you are a stunts woman and you have to do all these dodging, slow bullet time kills and all sorts of neat stunts. Yes, it’s very much inspired from Superhot, now that that’s out of the way we can actually review the game. The game has Mirror’s edge vibe as the graphics art-style is very similar to that. Graphics: The graphics in Tick Tock Bang Bang are very basic but that doesn’t mean the game looks bad. In fact the game looks very pretty. Graphics plain and simplistic. Sort of that minimal look going on and it’ll definitely remind you of Mirrors edge. Field of view is fully adjustable upto 120 degrees. Game is locked at 60FPS. I did have some dips, especially when a lot was going on the screen in the game with ‘Extreme’ graphics settings. I guess all those physics based calculations do take a toll on the GPU. Sound: The game has some nice ambient music. It’s not the best but it’s okay for such a game. There are a few lines of voice acting which are done in a good manner. Gameplay: Let’s get down to the main part of this game. The gameplay, and it did not disappoint me. I really loved playing this game throughout. You’re a Hollywood stunts woman named Delta T and you must go through these bunch of Hollywood stunt scenarios. When your character is stopped in place the time slows down. You can use this to dodge enemy fire and do your stunts. You can jump as well but the time only goes in real-time when you press either direction buttons. So moving forward or backward or strafing left and right are the only movements which will make the time go normally. Most missions or ‘stunts’ consist of you getting from point A to point B while dodging robots, cars, rocks, lasers etc. A few missions have you kill the enemies. There’s a bunch of different obstacles. Your first stunt has you dodge a bunch of cars and trucks thrown at you, yes not driving, just randomly thrown at you and you must dodge them. The physics are different every time so every time you start a stunt the cars/trucks will be thrown in a different pattern. So there is no predictable pattern in most missions. The robot enemies however are placed at the same spot every time so you can strategize your movement accordingly. There’s quite a lot of missions and with workshop support you can also get more. Delta T has a very short range electrocuting gun. For this to be effective you must be right next to the enemy. Once you kill an enemy they will drop bullets, the amount depends on the stunt you’re doing but in most of the stunts you get 1 bullet per robot killed. There’s other weapon pickups too like an EMP grenade which can be used to kill specific enemies. When an enemy is killed it explodes and these explosions can sometimes get in the way but I think that’s deliberate. It makes the game a bit more challenging as these explosions can obscure other enemies. There’s a lot of different types of enemies, there’s an orange robot drone which shoots at you, one bullet at a time. There’s also different type of robot drone which shoots 2 bullets at a time and is purple colored. When any of these drones shoot, you can clearly see the bullets and dodge accordingly as they leave a bit of trail which can tell you the direction the bullet is traveling. There’s other types of enemies such as exploding dummies (think those headless kamikaze in Serious Sam games) who run towards you and blow up when the touch you or anything like a car/block/object. You have to either shoot to kill them or bait them to oncoming traffic/obstacles. There’s big huge rotating laser robots as well as boss fights. A short gameplay video can be found below: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=712593244 Graphics: 8/10 Sound: 6/10 Gameplay: 9/10 Overall: 8/10 Conclusion: A very fun game which can be extremely satisfying. Killing a whole bunch of people in slo-mo while dodging bullets like the Matrix. Dodging cars, trucks and exploding dummies and did I mention EXPLOSIONSSS?!?!?? Yes please! There’s achievements (though a bit short on achievement quantity in my opinion, only 6 achievements as of this review, maybe they’ll add more later). Workshop support so you can download other people’s creations.
+Some unique original levels +More SUPERHOT as the game is clearly 'inspired' by it +Game works fine, controls fine +Level creator/workshop support -Boring aesthetic -Very bland sound design, practically no music -Pickups/powerups are incredibly boring and just solve the level automatically -Final level is overly long compared to every other level before it -Very short game -Reused assets from Drunken Robot Pornography -Zero story and even the premise alone removes all sense of urgency (You're doing hollywood stunts)
Not good if you're looking for anything but a shoddily-made SUPERHOT clone. I thought this would build further on Drunken Robot Pornography since it's a mod of it, but it's hands-down worse. Sure, more things were added, but even making your own levels you can't use this game as a superior version of DRP for the following reasons: -Time distortion is not optional. -You're stuck with the new gun, though it wouldn't be so bad without time distortion. -Instant death not optional, it was hardcoded into this game even though it's optional in the arena editor; what I don't understand is why instant death was added in the same way jetpack was removed, by having it ticked by default in the arena editor. -Even small titans will cause severe lag and sometimes crashes, let alone the massively complicated ones that worked perfectly fine in DRP -All the new things you can stick in a level cause huge perfomance drops, literally all of them. At least for me, the game becomes painfully choppy from 5 drones, 5 humanoids, 20 cars, or any water. Unfortunately, the main menu so happens to have about 30 cars. I don't know why this game runs so badly when it's just a simple modification of a well-performing game.
A foreword: For the sake of brevity, I'll write a summarized version of my review here on Steam. Here is the link to the longer form of the review, as well as a description of my reviewing mindset. http://pastebin.com/QeuQUmRD Gameplay: Impossible to not compare to Superhot, but does enough different to stand apart. Various gimmicks and hazards that wouldn't be out of place in Drunken Robot Pornography really enhance level variety. Enemy design is pretty good, bosses are big and very reminiscent of DRP's. Biggest problem is the length of the game. 8/10. Story: The entirety of the story is told in the trailer. Graphics: Definitely a Dejobaan game visually, which I really do like. Ran at a perfect 60FPS with everything on max on my GTX 760. 5/5. Sound: Not really much in the audio department at all. Music is very sparse, mostly ambient. 3/5. Overall scores are: 8/0/5/3; 8.0/10.
overall alright.
Its a reasonable uniquely stunt game that feels pretty awesome
at first i was bored playing through the game and felt it become a chore but as the game progressed i found myself actually enjoying it. the game while i thought was just a superhot ripoff it still had its perks which set it apart. where the game is at the moment its not worth your money. its too short i beat the levels the game had to offer in 2 hours and after that the only thing left to do is either play user created levels which arent many or create your own level which can be fun for more of the creative type of people. its a fun game overall but i feel you should wait for a price drop.
SUPERHOT meets Turbo Dismount.
