Thrasher is a rhythm and survival game where you fight lovecraftian bosses in an abstract and surreal world. You can play it with mouse and keyboard, with a controller, or in virtual reality. I played it in VR and I consider it the best way to experience it thanks to its incredible visuals, but it’s also very fun and challenging with the other control methods. You take control of a space eel in extradimensional, abstract levels. Using a pointer, you guide its movement across the screen—preferably with circular motions—with the goal of feeding it lines of light, avoiding obstacles, and defeating bosses. The gameplay feels like a mix between a rhythm game, Fruit Ninja, Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance, Beat Saber, and Osu. You must trace the correct path to execute attacks or cuts at the precise moments, passing through the right lines and avoiding obstacles and enemies with millimetric precision. There are 9 areas, each with 10 zones and a three-phase boss fight. The pace of the game is fast and intense, since the levels are time-based. You start with one minute, and the timer goes down as time passes or when you hit obstacles. On the other hand, you gain seconds by making precise cuts or by increasing your multiplier through circular movements. Little by little, new mechanics are introduced, such as time slowdown, a dash that destroys obstacles, energy bullets, or a sphere that wipes out everything in its path. The difficulty ramps up, as movement becomes faster and faster, forcing you to dodge and use your abilities optimally—all at the same time. Audiovisually, Thrasher is one of the most unique games I’ve played recently. The worlds are surreal and alien, with impossible colors and shapes. The bosses have lovecraftian designs that make no sense in the best way and genuinely give you chills. The music, built around electronic and techno synths with heavy percussion and a fast tempo, adds to the tense and unsettling atmosphere. Despite being very fun, Thrasher constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat thanks to its gameplay and audiovisual design. A couple of issues I found with Thrasher are that some mechanics or abilities aren’t explained very well or require surgical precision, which—considering the speed of the game—can become frustrating when you fail and all you see is the timer ticking down. Still, if you enjoy rhythm or precision-based games, Thrasher can give you many hours of fun, especially if you like chasing high scores, leaderboards… or surreal horror. If Thrasher caught your interest, you’ll find links in the description to get it.

Super fun, Great visuals
beautiful game. loads of fun. easy to learn and to difficult to master. nevertheless, the game is very forgiving/welcoming to new players, casual players, and players with accessibility issues. this is GREATLY appreciated.
Excellence in every category. No game comes close to as satisfying in feeling as this does once you master its controls, it is extremely rewarding. I will continue to play across Steam deck, VR & flat-screen on my desktop, as well as up on the TV with the deck dock, all of which are uniquely catered to be optimal experiences for the player. I really feel a sense of connection to the space eel when I get in a good flow, which this game seeks to promote. Every move you make with the eel is captured and players are rewarded for smooth flowing motions from one combo to the next, weaving in and out of the various obstacles which are thrown your way as you progress through the full game towards an extremely satisfying boss battle which i simply wont spoil for you. I'd buy it and buy it again for a friend while you are at it. Important transparency note: I received a copy of this game for free from the developer to playtest and help find bugs. I have since purchased the game with my own money on a separate account (cant buy it on the same one!) to support the developers in continuing to make great games like this. At no point was I offered any financial incentive to write this review. Now go play Thrasher and Thumper, you wont regret it.
in this game you play as a space eel controlled by your cursor (or controller) and the goal is to shatter all of the clear crystalline circles and/or lines before time runs out. don't hit any red objects. that's it. really fun in both vr and flatscreen, the later levels can be a little mean but the game remains pretty fun. i'll be coming back pretty often. for the price the game is more than worth your time. the levels are broken up into smaller levels with their own leaderboards, making them much shorter than thumper's levels which is something i quite like. it makes the game really easy to boot up and play for a little bit, especially if you're playing in VR, where the game requires very little exertion and only has you pointing your controller around and looking. it makes trying to get high ranks on every level a lot more appealing too. the game looks and plays absolutely fantastic in VR, if you've got a headset in your closet collecting dust i implore you to go set it up and try the game out with it, even if it's only for a couple minutes. there's a fair few things the game does that doesn't really come across in video or in the flatscreen mode (like the little swirly guys that throw the waves at you appearing in different places throughout the level and not just the center of the screen.) THRASHER also isn't a rhythm game at all unlike thumper, which is something i thought i'd miss, but i actually found myself appreciating that a lot because it means you can play the game without a low audio latency setup or even without sound at all (although playing without sound would be a pretty big disservice to the game!!) my only real gripe with the game is that in flatscreen the camera sometimes can't quite keep up with your movements causing you to slam into the screen edges. it caused me to fly against the edge of the screen into a hazard or fall short of collecting a powerup a few times. you can change a setting to zoom the camera out but i personally preferred having the gameplay fill the screen (the playfield is a square so you get lots of negative space if you do zoom it out, especially if zooming out all the way.) this didn't happen very often though so its a pretty minor thing that could be easily improved (maybe a camera speed setting that makes the camera more aggressively follow your character? make it follow the space in front of your character in the direction you're going?) just like it's older brother, this game runs absolutely flawlessly on any good computer and still holds up quite well even on a weaker one. your computer will run this game. the soundtrack and sound design are great, but you may have already guessed that. the game does not dissapoint. love this animal. the worm
Works on Reverb G2. THRASHER is a precision focused game set in the THUMPER universe. It kinda feels like a mobile game, but in a good way, by using its minimalistic control scheme creatively. The gameplay is pretty casual(unless you are on Play+), and it's a bit similar to Fruit Ninja. But the skill ceiling is quite high, and combo/ranking systems promote replayability. There is might be something wrong with Online Highscores: most levels have less than 20 records for them. Campaign is on the shorter side: without replaying levels, it would only take ~3 hours to beat it. The game looks good in VR with its Lovecraftian Rave artstyle, but THUMPER looked much better.

The vibes are the same as THUMPER, but the gameplay is completely different and isn't really my taste, visually amazing but too much for my near-sighted eyes to see what I'm hitting or where I'm going sadly, had to drop and refund it after blindly playing through level 1 to 6. Great visuals and soundtrack as always but not my type of gameplay. 5/10. Still a great game for casual players, trying something new.
