9.5/10 This is one of the few rhythm games that really respects the term "rhythm." This is not a Simon Says, Do as I Do, Follow the Instructions, or any sort of whimsical, care free casual game to relax to. This is straight up catharsis. There are only a few moves to know. You can get through the entire game with "thump", "turn", "slam." Each level trains you for what's to come and there's always just a little twist right when you think you've figured a section out. There's just enough repetition in sections where you can start predicting, but if you aren't on your toes, you will be punished. The music is not a light hearted melody with nice little riffs to follow. The experience is more like an industrial machine or engine with syncopation. A very nice feature is that during a level, right after a very intense section, the game will give you a breather for a short time and "reset" your ears as you coast along before it kicks back into action. I am not that good at rhythm games but I was able to get S rank on all levels thanks to how it progresses the player to be prepared for some crazy stuff. And even then, I'm trying to break my high scores by coming up with new combos.
beetle go vroom vroom until he crashes into a blind corner or something 💢
A silly little beetle fights the universe with sick beats. A good game for those who get motion sick and need something that mostly stays stable while also being highly engaging. But be warned: there is plenty of eye strain! Only speaking from my experience, that doesn't trigger dizziness for me.
4/10 gotta be the weirdest Paul Walker Beetle Simulator ive ever played + music - gameplay. its your basic 3 lanes runner, but this has one lane could be far more fun in vr but i dont have that tech or the tech that can run that sooooo, no idea ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠏⣴⣦⢻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⢸⣿⣿⣆⠻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡶⠠⠛⣛⣩⣭⣭⣭⣭⣭⣉⣛⠻⣿⣿⡇⢸⣿⣿⣿⣷⣌⠛⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⢹⡀⢻⠨⣍⣙⠻⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦⣍⠻⠸⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣄⢻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠟⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦⡑⢌⡻⢿⣶⢉⠻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦⣍⡛⠟⣛⣛⣛⣛⠈⠿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦⣬⣒⠠⠍⣓⣈⠻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣶⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣶⣬⡙⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣹⣿⣷⡆⠠⠍⠀⢙⣩⣿⡿⢋⣩⣭⡉⢻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣆⠙⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣾⣿⡿⢛⣃⣠⣿⣿⣿⣿⡟⣴⣿⣿⣿⣿⣧⠹⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣇⢹⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣯⡿⡿⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣻⣿⣿⡟⢐⣽⠿⠛⣛⠻⢿⡿⣸⡟⠩⠉⠛⢿⣿⣂⢻⣿⡿⢿⣿⣿⣿⡄⢿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣶⣾⣿⣿⣿⣷⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣻⣿⢿⣿⡟⢀⡿⢡⣾⣿⣿⣿⣆⠀⡿⣰⡀⠀⡇⢸⣿⣯⢸⣟⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠇⢸⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⢿⢿⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡇⠸⢃⣿⣿⣺⣿⣿⣿⣄⠀⠿⠉⡀⢣⡇⣿⣿⢸⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⠀⢸⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣿⣿⣿⣟⣿⣿⣿⣿⡆⢨⣾⡿⣿⣿⣿⡿⣟⡀⣒⣨⣴⡿⢰⣿⠃⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠃⠃⣹⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣟⣿⣿⣿⠈⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣌⠻⢃⣴⡿⢃⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡏⡘⣨⡉⢻⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣆⢫⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣾⣿⣄⠰⣶⣛⣭⠶⠿⣿⣿⠟⢀⣼⣿⡱⢹⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⣹⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣄⠛⢿⣿⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠆⣶⣤⠐⣶⣶⣦⠙⢠⣾⣿⣿⡇⣾⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⢠⣌⣙⠻⢿⣿⣟⢛⠩⣴⣿⣿⣧⢻⣿⠟⣠⢹⣿⣿⠟⣡⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⢃⣾⣿⣟⣛⣡⣬⣭⣈⠳⢍⡛⣛⡛⢳⣶⣾⠟⢸⣛⣡⣴⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⢟⣡⣸⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦⡉⢋⣩⡀⠠⢴⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⠿⢛⣩⣴⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦⡙⣛⣂⣘⠛⠿⠿⠿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⠿⢛⣋⣭⣴⣶⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣼⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣄⠙⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⢛⣡⣴⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⠿⣿⣿⣷⢌⢿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⢡⣶⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⢿⣿⣶⣶⠌⣉⠻⠿⣿⡿⠿⠟⡋⣡⣴⣿⣌⠻⢿⣿⣷⡄ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⡟⣰⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣎⠻⠟⣡⣾⣿⣿⣷⣶⡶⣿⠟⠱⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣶⣦⣵⣶ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⠀⠭⣭⣭⣙⣛⣛⣛⣛⠛⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣜⠻⣟⣿⣿⠿⢋⣐⣡⣼⣧⡹⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⡿⢋⣴⣶⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣶⣦⣙⠿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣄⠩⣴⣾⣆⡙⠛⠧⡙⠃⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡿⠀⣩⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⡘⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⡌⢻⣿⣿⣷⣶⣶⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⢃⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡷⠘⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣆⢹⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⠈⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡄⢸⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠈⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⢸⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡇⢺⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⢠⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡆⠛⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠇⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⢟⣋⣥⢄⣴⣤⣭⡛⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣦⠘⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠏⣠⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⢛⣩⣴⣾⣿⢟⣵⣿⣷⣍⡻⢿⣆⠻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣷⣌⡛⠿⢟⡻⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠟⠁⠡⠶⠿⠿⠿⠿⠛⣋⣩⣐⣚⣛⣛⣛⣫⣵⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦⠻⠀⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣶⣶⣶⣶⣭⣭⣭⣭⣥⣶⣿⣶⣶⣶⣶⣾⣷⣶⣶⣬⣭⣭⣍⣛⣛⣛⣛⣛⣛⣛⣛⣛⣛⣩⣴⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿
Fully completing this game is a one-of-a-kind rhythm experience. For a long time I thought that I would never beat the game, that it was just too hard. But I highly recommend going through the whole thing. You can worry about trying to be perfect later. I've also played it a lot since because trying to get higher scores or doing challenges has never gotten old for me. I'm currently practicing every once in a while with the eventual but unlikely goal of completing every level in a row without dying on NG+ difficulty. I don't think I'll ever do it, but it's fun to work towards.
Absolutely adore how easy this game is to learn and how well it plays. It is still pretty darn hard but nailing that initial introduction without overly compelx mechanics in this genre is key imo. Could do with a better soundtrack since it is dog awful but the gameplay is amazing nontheless!
To put it briefly, this game is NOT for musicians. Is it a rhythm game? Yes. This IS definitively a rhythm game, but not one that, given you play rhythm games or have musical talent, you will be able to pick up easily. If you happen to: A) Play a percussion instrument, B) Write music, C) Are familiar with music theory, or D) Can keep a regular rhythm that follows the basic rules of music theory, Then this game isn't for you and you likely will have a hard time making sense of it. Simply put, Thumper disregards the basic rules of music theory that is fundamental to most rhythm games. Few of the levels in the game follow a consistent rhythm, many of them rarely even fall into measures most of the time. The background music will often either not line up with the level or even actively distract from it at times. Between the very loose structure of the levels, the game's active tendency to obstruct your sightlines and the over-the-top flashing visuals that comes with actions as simple as hitting a note or buffering an input to hit said note (these also can't be disabled or reduced in any way), sight reading is made unnecessarily difficult. Some level stages will also be far longer than others, with some (6-5, 6-6, and 6-7 being the reason for this post) being as long as 2 minutes, again without a consistent beat or countable rhythm. Overall not an enjoyable rhythm game experience and one I can't honestly recommend. Play any other rhythm game.
Thumper will nicht entspannen – es will überrollen.
Gutes & Schlechtes:
God this game had me tweaking and also... JUST BECAUSE I CANT SEE FORWARD DOESNT MAKE IT MORE COMPLICATED, IT JUST MAKES IT MORE ANNOYING.
Jogo estupidamente difícil, mas vale a pena passar pq esse jogo tem umas músicas imersivas, uma pegada de eletrônica mais agressiva. E é o terror pra quem tem epilepsia.
