----- The balance between platforming and puzzle design is spot on — it challenges your mind while staying fun and engaging. The visual style is simple yet atmospheric, and the music perfectly complements the mood. What I loved most is how the game encourages you to learn by experimenting — it’s tough at times, but never unfair. In short, a unique adventure that quickly pulls you in and confidently builds its own identity. A must-play for anyone who enjoys well-crafted indie games.
The game begins with two fluffy creatures relaxing on the porch of their home. Their quiet moment is interrupted when a mysterious, TV-shaped machine is delivered nearby. Curious, one of the creatures goes to inspect it and accidentally activates the device, which teleports him into a strange, black-and-white world filled with traps and dangers. Gameplay revolves around moving right through each level while solving platforming and environmental puzzles that block your path. Your only abilities are to jump and double jump, which help you dodge hazards like spinning saws or ground spikes. Often, you must manipulate objects such as crates, pushing them to create makeshift platforms or to reach higher areas. Some puzzles involve physics-based mechanics, like rolling a crate down a slope to activate a switch, that serve as solution for opening a path forward. A distinctive feature of the game is its use of hidden walls. Both the switches and crates required to progress are often concealed behind them. Early on, the game teaches you this concept with a subtle hint, a signpost with an arrow pointing backward, suggesting you’ve overlooked something. While these hidden walls aren’t immediately obvious, you soon learn to recognize their subtle visual cues and anticipate their placement before being fooled again. Progression is entirely linear, and thanks to the game’s generous checkpoint system, mistakes carry little consequence. Checkpoints automatically save your progress after each challenge, puzzle, or switch activation. This thoughtful design ensures a smooth experience, minimizing frustration and eliminating the need to repeat sections unnecessarily. Visually, the game keeps things simple. Despite its minimalist art style, each stage introduces unique background elements, like structures, machinery, and vehicles, that convey a sense of movement through a coherent world. The interplay of light filtering from the background through dark silhouettes creates a moody, atmospheric effect that enhances the monochrome setting. The adventure consists of twenty levels, each with varying degrees of difficulty and length. However, the entire game can easily be completed in one sitting. There are no hidden secrets aside from a single idle achievement; it's best to leave the game open in the background. Overall, a decent puzzle platformer for the lowest price possible.
The Zamazingo is the kind of indie puzzle-platformer that immediately establishes its tone through atmosphere rather than dialogue or exposition. From the opening moments, the game surrounds the player with a bleak monochrome world filled with strange structures, dangerous machinery, and unsettling environmental details that hint at a deeper mystery beneath the surface. It embraces the familiar cinematic style popularized by modern side-scrolling atmospheric adventures, yet it still manages to create its own unsettling identity through surreal imagery and an oppressive sense of isolation. The result is an experience that feels less like a traditional action game and more like a descent into an abstract nightmare where every new location raises more questions than answers. The story follows Mark, who becomes trapped in a bizarre dimension after discovering the wreckage of a mysterious airship connected to a strange television-like machine. Instead of explaining everything directly, the game relies heavily on visual storytelling and symbolic imagery. Players are left to piece together fragments of meaning through exploration, environmental clues, and the unsettling design of the world itself. This minimalist approach works surprisingly well because it encourages curiosity and interpretation rather than spoon-feeding narrative details. There is a constant sense that something larger and more sinister exists beyond the player’s understanding, and that uncertainty becomes one of the strongest driving forces behind the journey. The visual presentation is undoubtedly one of the game’s greatest strengths. The black-and-white art style creates a grim and dreamlike atmosphere that remains consistently immersive throughout the adventure. Shadows dominate the environments, while distant lights and silhouettes help create tension in every new area. Forests appear dead and unnatural, underground corridors feel claustrophobic, and abandoned industrial structures loom ominously in the background. The world often feels as though it exists outside reality, suspended in a strange limbo between nightmare and memory. Even though the art direction clearly draws inspiration from other atmospheric platformers, it still succeeds in delivering several memorable visual moments that leave a lasting impression. Gameplay focuses on platforming, environmental puzzles, and survival against a variety of hazards hidden throughout the world. Players must leap across collapsing platforms, avoid deadly traps, move objects to open paths, and interact with environmental mechanisms to progress deeper into the mysterious setting. The controls are simple and accessible, which allows the focus to remain on exploration and tension rather than complicated mechanics. Many sections are designed around careful observation, rewarding players who take their time studying the environment before moving forward. While some sequences require precise timing, the game generally prioritizes atmosphere and suspense over fast-paced action. The puzzle design can be both rewarding and frustrating depending on the player’s preferences. The game avoids excessive tutorials or guidance, often expecting players to discover solutions through experimentation and environmental awareness. This creates a satisfying sense of discovery when puzzles click into place naturally, but there are also moments where progression can feel obscure. Some solutions are intentionally cryptic, relying on subtle visual hints that are easy to overlook. However, this ambiguity also strengthens the overall atmosphere because players constantly feel uncertain about what dangers or secrets might be hidden ahead. The unpredictability becomes part of the experience itself. Sound design plays a major role in maintaining immersion. Rather than overwhelming players with nonstop music, the game frequently relies on ambient noise and eerie silence to create tension. Distant mechanical sounds, echoing footsteps, and subtle environmental effects combine to make the world feel alive in an unsettling way. When music does appear, it is usually subdued and melancholic, reinforcing the lonely and oppressive tone of the adventure. The restrained audio approach works extremely well because it allows even small sounds to carry emotional weight, especially during moments of danger or discovery. Despite its artistic strengths, the game is not entirely polished. Movement occasionally feels stiff during precision platforming sections, and there are moments where collision detection can become unreliable. Some deaths feel more frustrating than deserved because of awkward positioning or unclear hazards. The gameplay loop also remains fairly consistent throughout the experience, meaning players looking for evolving mechanics or major gameplay surprises may eventually find the structure repetitive. The game introduces new visual environments and hazards, but it rarely reinvents its core mechanics in meaningful ways. Even so, there is genuine passion behind the project that helps elevate it beyond its limitations. The Zamazingo clearly understands the emotional appeal of atmospheric puzzle-platformers and successfully captures the sense of vulnerability and mystery that defines the genre. The world constantly feels hostile and unpredictable, encouraging players to proceed cautiously while absorbing every disturbing visual detail hidden in the background. The experience may not reach the same level of refinement as larger genre classics, but it demonstrates a strong artistic vision that remains engaging from beginning to end. What ultimately makes the game memorable is the feeling of unease that lingers throughout the entire journey. Every environment feels intentionally designed to make the player uncomfortable, whether through eerie silence, unsettling architecture, or the constant threat of sudden death. The combination of minimalist storytelling, monochrome visuals, and tense exploration creates a hypnotic atmosphere that carries the game even during its weaker gameplay moments. It is a title that values mood and emotional tension above complexity, and players willing to embrace that design philosophy will likely appreciate the experience far more than those expecting traditional action-focused gameplay. The Zamazingo is not a revolutionary entry in the puzzle-platformer genre, but it succeeds as a moody and atmospheric indie adventure that leaves a surprisingly strong impression through its art direction and sense of mystery. Its rough edges occasionally hold it back, yet the game’s haunting presentation and immersive world make it worthwhile for fans of dark cinematic platformers looking for another strange journey into the unknown. Прикольная игра Неплохой платформер за свои деньги с интересным визуальным стилем и персонажем в духе сажи из мультфильмов студии Ghibli Головоломки реашаемы и интересны
Plutôt correct pour le prix.
Minimal games curator: 5/10 A mixture of puzzle platformer and precision platformer, with a lot of hidden passages and fake floors. This is a somewhat unusual combination, both in terms of games like it, and potential audience. But if you happen to be one of the few people who enjoy BOTH precision and puzzle platformers, this could be worth your time. The precision platforming is not particularly challenging by the standards of the genre, but is rather exacting by the standards of a puzzle platformer. Thankfully there are extremely generous checkpoints, so you only lose 5-10 seconds of progress at most when you die. Meanwhile, the puzzle platformer aspect is fairly straightforward, mostly involving finding and pushing crates around and flipping switches. IE, the puzzles are pretty mild by the standards of the puzzle genre, but pretty steep by the standards of a precision platformer. The other standout feature of the game is the number of hidden passageways and fake floors or ceilings. These mostly have visual tells or standard places they might appear in a level, and are usually satisfying to find. Often when you are stuck it is because you haven’t found the hidden bit. This game didn’t really click for me because I am not much of a fan of precision platforming. Often when I was having difficulty with a section it was unclear if it was because I was missing a puzzle or hidden area, or if the platforming was just beyond my skill level. In theory combining the genres would be a good way to make something fresh and interesting. But it does mean you need to be good at and interested in all of the genres represented. Thus I am recommending this game only to people who identify as those sort of fans. As solely a puzzle platformer or precision platformer fan, there’s not enough to carry this game.
I really enjoyed The Zamazingo – such a calm and artistic 2D story. Beautiful, minimalist game. Are you planning a Part 2 with a happy ending where the world regains its colors and he returns to his love? Thank you for your reply.
muito relaxante, pra jogadores iniciante muito bom
I enjoyed this game a lot. Gameplay was smooth, and the aesthetics were really nice; the grayscale color scheme (for most of it) and the music paired well. While there wasn't a tutorial or anything--you're dropped right into the game--the controls and mechanics were easy to figure out, and if anything, having to navigate those fundamentals added to the problem-solving feel of the game. You don't know where you are, or what you're doing, and in the case of this particular game, that's a good fit. It's forgiving enough (having you start over at the beginning of a particular obstacle sequences rather than at the beginning of the level when you die), which keeps the player from becoming frustrated and moving onto something else. I finished it in about two and a half hours of cumulative play; I probably could have beaten it more quickly, but I found myself exploring and looking for secrets. Couldn't get the last achievement, so I'll have to revisit it. Well worth the 99 cents.
