First off: not really a visual novel, more of a philosophical treatise. I did some digging and it appears this is pretty much the authors book on Amazon, but in a game-like form. Its a strange read; the author seems uncharacteristically naive for someone who apparently has so much life experience. Feels very upper-middle-class. They also seem to possess a fundamentally incorrect idea of certain philosophical content: for example, they criticize the idea of 'the love of money being evil' and then state their 'correct' interpretation of the idea. Their 'correct' interpretation was what the religious concept of 'the love of money being evil' meant in the first place. Overall I would not recommend reading it. It presents fairly juvenile utopian ideals as though they were a revolutionary new idea.
Somebody decided to turn their own personal philosophy and world view into a block of text on Steam, in order to try to spread that ideology to others. A noble goal - if you think you've struck gold and figured it all out, why not share it with others, especially if the end result brings world peace? Unfortunately, everything here is a catastrophic oversimplification. Hatred doesn't exist, its just a branch of fear? Sure, you can try to twist definitions to justify that one. But the statement "there is no right and wrong", "both halves of the binary must exist" in an effort to make people of competing ideologies get along is naive and ridiculous. It also contradicts the statement that "love is the answer"...if both love and fear are necessary, why not choose fear? Certain things are - or should - universally be regarded as atrocities against life; everyone easily agree that they're wrong. Torture and murder of other life, for example. The developer says he rarely leaves negative reviews, as they serve no purpose other than to spread fear. Well, there's a purpose to my negative review here, just as with all the others I leave. That purpose is to express my dissatisfaction and criticism to the developer, and to provide my opinion to prospective players. And it would be great if my review caused the developer to rethink their philosophy a bit further, or to update the game so that it's less of a block of text. I did agree with some portions of the essay. The world does have mechanisms in place that cause division between humans. And this game caused me to write a far longer review than any of the other visual novels I tested so far. But its not enough to make up for the naive oversimplification that's been done here.

How to describe this... It is someone's philosophical views on the state of the world. Text is in one big block, so there is no need to skip forward or whatever. Frankly, if it weren't free, I would consider it a waste of money. But it is free, so if you have a philosophical bent... might be interesting for you.
Before I played The World is Binary: Why Love is the Answer, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
The World is Binary: Why Love is the Answer is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This isn't a true novel or anything, or even a CYOA book. The "author", pretending to be a philosopher, wrote a garbage manifesto, specifically using a technique most commonly referred to as "an unholy deluge of word salad gibberish", and published it as if it was a video game on Steam. The best way to explain the impact of this comes from Adam Sandler's own works, which I will paraphrase now.
What you have written is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response, were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having witnessed it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. One of the chief problems with failed authors polluting Steam with non-game E-books is that E-books can easily just be presented in a web browser... there's no justification for charging money on Steam for what might as well be a webpage. We don't spend thousands on buying a gaming rig to spend money on Steam for something Chrome or Firefox could do. The poor quality of this e-book is also reflected by how many people spent time reading it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the book all-time peak reader count was only ONE reader. That's right, only one person ever read this at a time. When I tried reading this for the purposes of reviewing it, I equalled the peak reader count for the e-book. OUCH. Now, the only reader activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 110,000 games (real games, not e-books) for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality e-book is to be expected. The funny thing is, if you wanted to print this book, you'd only need to print one copy to satsify the entire world's demand for it. While this E-book is "free", you can get better quality, professionally written books and comics for free online (from places like Project Gutenberg) or from public libraries. Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.

Well, to start with, as noted, it is not a game. it is a short essay on good and evil with various ways to look at the issue. I personally found it tedious but it may enlighten some readers more than others. The spinning background is a distraction as well. So I would give it 3 out of 5 whatevers. Recommended for those who like to ponder the world's ills.
