The Wolf's Den

Length <30mins A short narrative game that feels like the ‘PT’ repeating hallways gameplay in a mine, combined with a fantasy story about Werewolves. In the most basic sense the story is of an alchemist and the event of his friend turning into a werewolf through alchemy. The story is told out through the tunnel through voice over notes. The story overall is interesting and you will be using potions to escape from the werewolves that hunt you. Loops are simple to explore the tunnel for items, or your workshop. Then get to the end of the tunnel to trigger the next loop. Stop for notes on the way to learn more of the story then rinse and repeat. A few variations to each loop, but nothing drastic. Honestly very loosely a game and more of a narrative with a looping set piece. For the price it can be worth the try. In my opinion I just really hate any looping ‘PT’ mechanics. It is a common feature in horror games and I really find it boring, especially after playing so many of them. On the downside, the gameplay loop can feel repetitive, particularly in the later levels where not much happens. The final level is notably long and somewhat dull, which could have been improved with pacing adjustments or added mechanics. The voice acting is a bit rough at times, but it doesn’t detract too much from the overall experience. Originally a paid game, The Wolf’s Den is now free, making it easier to recommend. If you’re looking for a short, story-driven indie game with a nostalgic Unity feel, it’s worth a try—just don’t expect deep mechanics or intense horror. A decent, quick experience for narrative-focused players and achievement hunters, but the linear gameplay and lack of scares might not appeal to everyone.
