"The Twilight Witch" is an amazing exercise in RPG development. By which I mean an amateur developer worked out how to use something other than RPG Maker to dump a garbage JRPG onto Steam along with a little high school anime club dropout fanfiction... and yet, somehow, managed to come up with something even worse than an RPG Maker asset flip. I don't know if this is a student project, or some court ordered punishment or something, but the quality here is exceedingly low. The bad graphics match the sloppy and incoherent RPG design perfectly, so at least there's symmetry. And, I suppose some kudos to the developer for not flipping assets... but at the same time, using MS-Paint to create game assets is probably even worse. Have people considered, if they can't create assets of quality, and flipping assets from a store is even worse, maybe they're just in the wrong industry? Sometimes it's good for there to be barriers to entry for some things. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough. Note: There's a few fake looking reviews on this, so take the review score with a grain of salt.

The Twilight Witch is a charming, pocket-sized 2D pixel-art Action RPG that serves as a neat 30-minute fantasy adventure. You play as Mael, a young man who leaves his ruined home of New Larton to track down a mysterious hooded aggressor and warn the wider world of the impending danger.Spending exactly half an hour inside the game is the perfect amount of time to experience everything it has to offer. The presentation relies on nice retro pixel art, and the gameplay smoothly blends top-down exploration with fast-paced, bullet-hell style magical combat encounters that keep you on your toes. However, the rough student-project nature shows itself quickly through several technical flaws. The dynamic combat box colliders during the initial training sequences can be quite inaccurate, audio volume settings annoying reset back to default values upon every application launch, and pushing your speed statistics too far can accidentally cause your character model to permanently clip straight into castle walls.Despite being highly linear and mechanically brief, it works well as a short, cohesive narrative demonstration. For a completely free indie download that doesn't bloat your active profile page with unfinished tracking achievements, it stands as a solid, quick fantasy palette cleanser to check out during a short coffee break

I have completet the game and i liked it a lot. I like the secrets and the skills you have are also intresting. You can play it more times to find out what the diffrent magics do. For a first game it's really good.
I have a few things to say about the game. During my first fight training, the white box was not accurate—just a small thing I noticed. Second. My game crashed multiple times after the first encounter with this beast (I don't know its name). (I met it at the Tower for the first time) Third. The Speed set allows me to clip through walls in the castle. I got myself lost in the walls. Fourth. As soon as I close or exit my game and go back into it, the Music and sound turns on again (reset to default) Five. Is there any way to collect the old sets that you could have bought in the shop? (I like collecting) And to walk around after you are done, because damn, now I am a Guardian with an Angle Bow (hot) Seven. Please add Potions! Health potions, or potions of some kind, and perhaps resistance gear. For your first game, very well done. I can't wait for the second part.
Definitely someone's first game, but I'm enjoying myself so far. Special items are hidden just out of frame enough to be satisfying finding them. Fight mechanics have an Undertale-esque feel. Upgrading your equipment changes what your character model is wearing. Still needs some polish, however. I found a few misspellings pretty early on and clicking the load button on the pause screen can seriously mess up the map and force you to reload from the last save. I commend the developer on what I'm assuming is their first game and look forward to future updates (if any).
A great first game! The story is very good and I enjoyed myself while playing this game. I wished there was more to the story tho.
