Primarily you will be navigating layers of deep tunnels with the goal of reaching the surface to escape. In addition to the semi-complex shafts, you'll also encounter zombies and on one floor, a demonic hound that will hinder your attempt at making it out. At the beginning of the venture, there will be a gun that we can use to fight back against zombies, and a lantern to light up some of the darker areas. Each floor is divided into stages, and progressing will require solving simple tasks like turning on electricity or seeking out & placing valves blocking your path.

The Tunnel is truly fulfilling in terms of its performance, which is always good to see when it appears to be the first project of any developer. Same thing goes for the game mechanics, no technical whimsiness, just a game that works as intended. But besides that, I'm struggling to identify areas where the developer has assured engaging gameplay. For probably more than 90% of my in-game time, I have been holding 'W', mindlessly touring practically identical subterranean hallways. This is especially true when losing track of your location, and if you don't, then the game will net you an estimated 30 minutes with a scarce amount of enemy encounters. I really wish that there were more substance to it, even small different things such as management of the lantern (fill it with gas/kerosene, whatever, you name it) and similar stuff. That's not the case, and that's also one of the biggest reasons why this game fails me. Still feel the need to stress the positive achievement surrounding performance and all technical aspects. It's a developer that I will be supporting down the road, and hopefully we'll see future projects with more attention towards creating increased engagement in his games. Learned about a very cool mechanic for the gun, when you're out of bullets, I assumed you would be kind of screwed, but you can pistol-whip the zombies instead. Totally awesome. If Steam allowed for any verdict in between Recommended/Not Recommended, that's where I would place The Tunnel. If you're someone who specifically enjoys the task of navigating mazes with very few elements besides that, then it might still be a good fit for you.
