This game is soooo good. The characters are well-developed, each with unique personalities and backstories that make them stand out. I quickly got attached to them, and the story had me hooked from the start. It’s full of twists and mystery, and even though there are a few translation errors here and there, it didn’t ruin the experience for me. Unfortunately there isn't 18+ content on Steam, but honestly, I didn’t feel like it made much of a difference. The core story is still really strong without it. Now, the biggest complaint I’ve seen is the price—and yeah, it’s expensive for a visual novel. I’d recommend waiting for a sale or getting it somewhere else if you can find it cheaper. It’s definitely worth playing, but the price tag is a bit steep for what you get. TL;DR: Great story, beautiful art, well written characters, but grab it on sale. Totally worth your time.
A world where the inhabitants never die...
Note: There are depictions of violence, horror, gore, etc. Although I'll do my best to give these warnings in my review, it doesn't hurt to give a heads up. XD The Town of Nie is a yaoi horror adventure visual novel developed and published by dramatic create. You take on the role of Hisora, a 20-year old man who works at several manual labor intensive, part-time jobs. One day, as Hisora is leaving one of his jobs to go to his next one, he notices a blue-haired teenage boy in a suit carrying a bouquet of white flowers. Intrigued, Hisora follows him and notices that the boy has dropped the bouquet. Intending to return it to him, Hisora then follows him, only to find himself in front of an old, strange-looking inn. He's now in a whole other world that's basically between the living world and afterlife. The inhabitants can never die (for the most part). Now, Hisora has to find a way back home, and he believes that the blue-haired boy is the key. In regards to the gameplay, multiple choices are presented throughout the story. Both a common route and four individual guys' routes are present. The common route has several endings, most of which end badly for Hisora. As for the guys' route, they are the following: Mio (the carefree, happy-go-lucky type), Asuku (the hot-tempered one), Koko (the cook and volunteer caretaker of the inn), and Naruomi (the newest inn resident who's polite and likes to read). In addition, lots of CGs are shown, and a varied soundtrack and full-on Japanese voice acting (with the exception of most NPCs, who have partial voice acting) are present. Also, there are several Steam achievements, but they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "Steam is learning about this game". Having gone over the story and gameplay, I'll get down to my thoughts. It has been quite a while since I last played a yaoi visual novel, and I liked the story premise behind The Town of Nie, having BxB romance mixed with horror and the supernatural. As I received a review key from dramatic create, I had the chance to play this game and go through all the routes and endings. First, I enjoyed how the story starts off. It starts with a brief horror scene although Hisora quickly realizes that it's just a bad dream. The beginning is a bit slow but picks up when Hisora sees the blue-haired teenager and decides to follow him. However, the story really starts to pick up when Hisora finds himself in a whole other world and realizes that the normal human rules don't apply. I found myself getting drawn in by this whole other world, where the inn's inhabitants are people who are in comas back in the living world. Hisora is the anomaly, as he's the only actual living person. Only the innkeeper and the four romance interests know the truth about Hisora, as it would prove quite dangerous if others were to find out. Also, it doesn't help that Hisora gives off a sweet, alluring scent that draws people to him. I liked how there are lots of different endings, depending on the choices you make, and how you can end up not being on a romance route. In addition, I like how the romance routes and the true route wrap up all the problems nicely, whether they involve the reasons that the romantic interest ended up in the inn and/or Hisora learning the truth behind the blue-haired boy and why he was drawn into that world. As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, there is horror and gore, so readers should be aware. I'll briefly talk about the characters. Hisora serves as a fine main character although he definitely lacks common sense, such as forgetting that the normal human rules don't apply and all that. This did annoy me at times and make me face palm, but thankfully, the other characters make up for it. I liked all of the romantic interests and their varying personalities. First, I played Mio's route and I like how there's a huge tragedy in his backstory, which leads to him being at the inn. Well, this is the case with all the interests. Asuku is the more violent type although I ended up enjoying his route the most, mainly because of his ending if he and Hisora choose to return to the living world. Koko has quite the tragic backstory, too, and I found him to be interesting, especially since he had amnesia when he first arrived at the inn and Koko isn't his actual name. Finally, Naruomi's route is what I'd consider to be close to the true route since it answers a lot of questions about certain tragedies, and it turns out that he and Hisora have quite a long history. Now, there is a true ending, but I don't know if I'd consider it to be one since it ends up involving turning back time to prevent certain tragedies and leaving many questions unanswered. However, that's probably a matter of personal opinion. As for the writing, the English translation is fine. I noticed that there were a couple of lines that weren't translated, though, so they should be fixed. Occasionally, I noticed awkward phrasings and incorrect grammar, so I think that it wouldn't hurt to have a native English speaker proofread the script for a smoother reading experience. However, the pacing felt fine, and the routes are all enjoyable, never feeling like one is more rushed than others. In regards to the art, the style is beautiful. It has this lovely hand-drawn, manga style that I like a lot, and it really makes you feel like you're back in Japan during the late 1800s to early 1900s, which is what being in that world feels like. The colors are used well, and the CGs are especially well done. Since this does have horror, there are depictions of blood and such (despite that this is the censored version), so do keep this in mind. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3352313092 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3353016896 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3354996171 Regarding the music, the tracks are great to listen to. They have variety and I especially enjoyed listening to the ones that have that slightly mysterious, horror vibe to them. I'd say that if you're sensitive to horror and such, it would be best to avoid reading this story late at night or in the dark since with the writing and music, it can feel very scary and suspenseful at times. Also, I like that there's lots of Japanese voice acting. The voices fit well with their respective characters and personalities. My favorite voice acting would be the one for Mio since it really fits with his carefree, laidback attitude. Overall, would I recommend The Town of Nie? If you enjoy hot yaoi romance (and there are plenty of hot, spicy scenes) with the mystery horror and you like getting those Steam achievements, you'll definitely enjoy this game. Now the main criticism I read is the price point on Steam, which is priced here at a little over $60 usd. This can feel a bit steep, considering the amount of gameplay and that it couldn't hurt for the English translation to be polished a bit. However, it's worth getting, especially on a sale, and I highly enjoyed the story. Well, crying at the end of the most routes (and very few stories can do that to me) might be saying something. XD Finally, I want to give a major thank you to dramatic create for the review key. It was such a pleasure to read The Town of Nie, and I enjoyed all of the routes and endings. I'm excited to delve into more visual novels by this awesome dev/publisher. ^^
For more detailed, fully complete, high quality reviews like this, please follow The Introverted Gamer, prioritizing heart and soul always. ^^

(bushi)
The writing so far is just astonishing. And every guy is QUITE different, so you'll definitelly find one you like. the main protag is also a fun character, being a hard working and honest young man
