What if someone knew your mind better than you did?
That is the tagline, and man, this game blew my mind in more ways than one, keep in mind that I will be keeping this as spoiler free as possible.
The swapper is a mind bending puzzle platformer, where your character creates clones to overcome the puzzles presented in the game, and while playing it, you wont be wrong by recalling THAT transporter theory from star trek. I cant go into detail, but if you know, you know.
The music, sound design, environmental art and even the puzzles amalgamates into transporting the player into another world. No, I did not forget the storytelling aspect of this game, throughout the entire playthrough, the player is given subtle hints as to what the end of the game could possibly be. Yes, possibly be, no matter what you figure out before the end, the possibility still exists that your interpretation could be wrong. The puzzles are also mind bending in the way that whatever direction you walk, or actions you do, your clones will copy you. Here’s the kicker, your clones die and this ties into the story too.
This was the first game I bought and finished while I was in South Korea, so it holds a special place in my heart. It is a very short experience, but for 15 dollars or your regional equivalent, it is well worth the money spent, if you figure out the puzzles first time around, you could be looking at about 4 to 5 hours worth of gameplay, but if you are like me, then, you are more likely looking at about 6 to 8 hours of gameplay.
This is one of those games that should be streamed without a camera, and minimal interaction with the chat, this game is an experience and if you dont want to experience it for yourself, then hope for a streamer, streaming this game.
This game, was my first indie title as stated before, but it was also the shortest game i have played, that has left me with more questions than answers, it left me with a few days, where i did not want to play any games. That little death that you feel after finishing a great game? I call it gaming's la petite mort.
Play this game, and if you dont want to play a platformer puzzler, or struggle with the puzzles, I will be posting a puzzle solving guide, with no spoilers. This game needs more love. It is such a great game in my opinion, that I would most definitely recommend a purchase.
