Consumed by greed, Wyatt's parents subject him to a cycle of death without end, sending him into Purgatory each time to capitalise on the Catholicon, a cure-all they value more than their son, with the potential to reshape humanity. As he ebbs, Wyatt's only desire is to be free, forever.

About

"Over, and over again... It'll never end."
Wyatt Heyll has known nothing but suffering his entire life. Stricken since childhood with cascading cancers and relentless illness, he has always been standing at death's door, until his parents made a desperate choice. They gave him the Sorrowvirus.
A paranormal corruption of the soul, the Sorrowvirus bars its host from passing into the afterlife. Instead of permanent death, those infected find themselves in Purgatory after they die, a liminal place built from memories, dreams and nightmares, where broken bodies mend and are presented with the opportunity to escape death. But each time Wyatt returns to the living, he is told his ailments come back faster, hungrier than ever before. And still, his parents let him die, over, and over again, in the name of research, profit, and a propsective cure that may never be intended for him.
Wyatt no longer fears death. He fears coming back from it. He has endured enough, the question is whether you agree?
Wyatt's suffering is not yours to fix, but his fate is yours to decide. He needs someone willing to let him go. With four endings to discover in this evolving hellscape, will you grant him peace, or condemn him to continue?
The Sorrowvirus is a first-person story adventure built to be experienced in a single sitting, with each instance lasting approximately 45 to 60 minutes with no save points. However, the game will remember when you've reached an ending, and you may take breaks between instances before you reenter Purgatory. Act quickly. Time behaves differently in Purgatory, and it has a way of causing you to lose track of it.
Track it by seeking out the grandfather clocks scattered throughout Purgatory's decaying corridors, or find the wristwatch hidden after you complete the first instance if you'd rather freely explore without time constraints.
Every time you reach an ending, something shifts, dialogue changes, environments warp, the difficulty increases. The world is aware of how many times you've returned. Just like Wyatt. To experience the entire story, all four instances must be played.
Based on the upcoming novel Children of Sorrow.

I genuinely care for this game so much, i find the characters so endearing. I have held this game near and dear to my heart for years. There's clearly so much care put the storytelling in the gorgeous yet haunting environment , as well as what is directly stated and/or implied in the dialogue.
Good time, writing is solid, gameplay is bland but; gets the job done. ♥♥♥♥ the hidden rooms though
This game is phenomenal and I love every part of it. Keep up the great work, I’m eager for more
Do you like randomized puzzles? Do you like timed gameplay? Do you like trial-and-error? Do you like no savepoints, and re-arranged puzzles upon fails? And all of this combined? Well, I don't.
The Sorrowvirus is a psychological horror adventure that approaches the genre from a deeply emotional and philosophical angle rather than relying on traditional scares. Developed by WATCHMAKER and published by Adam Sklar, the game centers on Wyatt Heyll, a terminally ill young man trapped in a horrifying cycle of death and resurrection. His parents, obsessed with defeating mortality, expose him to an experimental force known as the Sorrowvirus, condemning him to an endless existence where every death simply returns him to a strange purgatorial realm before he is forced to live and suffer once again. This premise forms the foundation for a narrative that explores grief, obsession, morality, and the true cost of immortality. The game's greatest strength lies in its storytelling. Rather than presenting a straightforward horror tale, it gradually unfolds a tragic narrative through exploration, environmental clues, written documents, and hidden revelations. Players are encouraged to piece together the circumstances surrounding Wyatt's condition and the motivations of those responsible for his fate. The writing tackles difficult themes such as terminal illness, the fear of death, and humanity's desire to control nature. As the story develops, it becomes increasingly clear that the pursuit of eternal life can become just as terrifying as death itself. The emotional weight behind Wyatt's struggle gives the experience a level of depth that many indie horror titles fail to achieve. Gameplay focuses primarily on first-person exploration and puzzle-solving. The mechanics are intentionally simple, allowing the narrative and atmosphere to remain at the forefront. Players move through surreal environments inspired by memories, dreams, and distorted realities, collecting items, solving environmental puzzles, and uncovering clues that reveal more of the story. The puzzles are generally accessible and rarely become frustrating, serving as tools to maintain immersion rather than obstacles designed to challenge players excessively. This design choice keeps the pacing steady and allows the narrative themes to remain the central focus. One of the more unique aspects of The Sorrowvirus is its structure. Although each playthrough is relatively short, the game encourages multiple completions through its branching endings and evolving world design. Every time the story is replayed, subtle changes begin to appear. Certain locations feel different, environmental details shift, and new discoveries become available. These changes are more than simple additions for replay value; they reinforce the narrative concept of being trapped in an endless cycle. The world itself seems to remember previous attempts, creating a fascinating relationship between gameplay mechanics and storytelling. Players who invest time into seeing all possible outcomes will gain a more complete understanding of Wyatt's fate and the mysteries surrounding the Sorrowvirus. The visual presentation successfully supports the game's themes. The environments are filled with symbolic imagery, decaying structures, and dreamlike landscapes that blur the line between reality and nightmare. Rather than relying on graphic horror, the game creates unease through atmosphere and visual storytelling. Every location feels deliberately crafted to reflect Wyatt's mental and emotional state. The constantly shifting nature of the environments strengthens the feeling of instability and uncertainty, ensuring that players never feel entirely comfortable during their journey. Sound design also plays a major role in establishing the game's mood. The soundtrack favors melancholy and tension over loud horror cues, creating an almost oppressive sense of sadness throughout the adventure. Ambient sounds, subtle effects, and strong voice performances help immerse players in Wyatt's tragic situation. The audio rarely seeks to shock; instead, it steadily reinforces the loneliness and despair that define the experience. This approach complements the narrative perfectly and helps distinguish the game from more conventional horror titles. The game is not without weaknesses. The emphasis on repeated playthroughs may not appeal to everyone, particularly players who prefer entirely new content with each run. Some objectives and puzzle sequences can feel repetitive when revisiting the same areas multiple times. Additionally, the short length of individual playthroughs may leave some players wanting more substantial gameplay systems. While the narrative focus justifies these design choices, those seeking action-oriented horror or complex mechanics may find the experience somewhat limited. Despite these shortcomings, The Sorrowvirus succeeds because of its ambition and originality. It delivers a memorable examination of mortality wrapped inside a haunting psychological horror framework. The game challenges players to think about life, death, and suffering while guiding them through a mysterious and emotionally charged world. Its strongest moments come not from frightening encounters, but from the disturbing implications of its story and the emotional impact of Wyatt's endless struggle. For players who appreciate narrative-driven horror experiences with strong themes and atmospheric world-building, The Sorrowvirus offers a compelling and thought-provoking journey. Its unique premise, evolving structure, and emotional storytelling create an experience that lingers long after the final ending has been discovered. While its gameplay remains relatively simple, the power of its narrative and atmosphere makes it a standout indie horror title that is well worth exploring. Rating: 7/10
I would like to say I was able to play this game, but it has a fatal error upon launching the game. Fails before it can even start. Bummer. Was looking forward to this game. EDIT: They did end up patching the game so that I could play it... It was a decent game. The puzzles weren't too hard to figure out, the mechanics were pretty easy to understand, and the story was interesting enough. I'd recommend a play through. It's a pretty short game.
