You.
Guided by Protego’s only remaining analyst, Jim Ratio (Greg Miller), you must master the unique powers of each crew in a game of tactical Solitaire like none you’ve ever played before. Guide your crews home in a tale of intrigue where nobody can be trusted. Keep your cool in a world of AI spies and cyber-enhanced operators.
Once you’ve taken back control of Protego, choose from five different modes for endless replayability that fits your preferred play style.
Five modes to suit your play style:
Campaign - A tightly packed story that introduces the game’s mechanics.
Campaign Plus - Limited turns and locked tables require optimal tactics to solve.
Countdown - Test your endurance with wave after wave of unique decks.
Skirmish - An infinite playground to enjoy unlocked crews.
Daily Hotspot – Bite-sized challenges for your crews to face every day.
Beautiful original character artwork and atmospheric design put you at the heart of your own cyberpunk conspiracy.
No heightened game of Solitaire would be complete without full FMV cutscenes, featuring Greg Miller and Inel Tomlinson in an original story from the team behind Thomas Was Alone, Volume, Subsurface Circular and John Wick Hex.
FREE UPDATES The Return of The Merry and The Atlantis Project add new crews, new cards, new music, and new FMV cutscenes featuring Samantha Béart (North Star Rising, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - BBC Radio) and Alanah Pearce (Afterparty, Cyberpunk 2077).
Original soundtrack composed by Jon Everist (Battletech, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, Shadowrun: Dragonfall).
Is this a solitaire game?
Yes-ish. The Solitaire Conspiracy is inspired by a variant of solitaire called Streets and Alleys, but with some small adjustments and the big addition of suit based powers. Campaign, Campaign Plus, Daily Hotspots and Skirmish (choose your own suits and powers) are take-at-your-own-pace experiences that fit into your schedule. Countdown mode is a place to test your skills with nuanced powers against a ticking clock. This game is endlessly replayable.
Are there microtransactions?
Nope.
Is this Bithell Short an entry in the “Circular” series?
No. While our previous Bithell Shorts (Subsurface Circular and Quarantine Circular) have been twists on the text adventure, The Solitaire Conspiracy is a new take on solitaire. We love storytelling and world-building, so it absolutely contains a full narrative experience, which we’re telling via full-motion video (FMV) and in-game lore. We decided to use the Bithell Short name to signal something digestible and original. Thanks for continuing to support these odd experiments between our larger projects.
Do I need to have played other Bithell Shorts games to enjoy this one?
Not at all. The Solitaire Conspiracy is an entirely different game from Subsurface Circular and Quarantine Circular. It tells its own self-contained story set in a world of spies and intrigue. Of course, our games are all set in a shared universe, so expect some mentions of old friends.
If this game is ‘short’, what’s to stop me getting a refund when I’m done?
The Solitaire Conspiracy is our third Bithell Short (and with continued support from the player base our biggest). Our previous two games, Subsurface Circular and Quarantine Circular, both have a return rate of less than 2%. Steam players have shown us that they understand the work that goes into games, and are up for paying for ones that entertain them. Thank you (again).

The game is OK if you really are a Solitaire fan. Otherwise it lacks story and gameplay variety.
TL;DR: One of the best solitaire games I've played, and I play a LOT of solitaires (Zachtronics, A Solitaire Mystery, Solitaire Master (Android)). - An engaging, unique, and challenging solitaire variant thanks to the mechanics in the various crews and their respective face cards - Presentation is so surprisingly high effort for what one would come to expect from a Solitaire game: stylish and customizable UI, music that dynamically responds to gameplay, FMV cutscenes - Story is melodramatic, campy, but takes itself just seriously enough to be fun The only thing I can think to take it over the top would be to go full Supergiant with side-mini games (not present in this iteration) and on the narrative (now that I mention it, I wonder if Transistor was an inspiration for this game?).
Wonderful game with horrific branding. The dolphin-centric banner hides that this is a fast-paced spy-themed card game that makes Solitaire feel like one big, shiny, and very addictive mini-game that has you coming back again and again to explode rows of cards while roleplaying as a top secret spymaster. You unlock new spy teams to unlock their respective powers. Super fun! The music is highly repetitive and the dialogue is full of comma splices, but just mute the music and lock in for some campy spy adventures. This game scratched a deep itch for me. When you get that urge to play a new game, this is a solid one!
Decent solitaire+. Not much of a challenge. Casual.
Really good solitaire based game, super presentation, music and theme. If you like card games in general or Solitaire in particular, give it a go!
I nice little game you can pick up and put down. Beautiful artwork.
bithell game good
The Solitaire Conspiracy raises the trademark Bithell Games excellence to an even higher level of polish with an original concept that could nevertheless have been elevated further.
This spy thriller starts off strongly with an incredibly well defined ambiance and presentation, a great soundtrack and promising narrative setup, one of the few games to make good use of FMV, well written and played, smoothly animated and entirely bug-free. However, its gameplay demands a bit of perseverance before it really converges. Some faction powers are not very intuitive on their own, with randomized effects that make it difficult to plan an exact strategy, or an outright negative impact that inadvertently makes their avoidance a primary objective. I had a hard time developing a valid approach around many of them early on, until more factions later became available and their combined powers began to make complete sense. Once enough complementary factions are at play, particular alliances feel like a stroke of design genius, and the game becomes fully enjoyable from then on. I simply wish there were more of those and less of the randomness and negative effects, especially early on. Campaign missions regularly pop on the world map. Though some opportunities disappear seemingly randomly, creating some level of FOMO, they eventually return if missed or failed. Each mission features a refined synopsis worthy of an espionage series that serves up a great mental image, accompanied by light contextual visuals. These scenarios are mostly about ambiance; in truth they only alter which factions will be at play. Face cards are spy field agents, dormant until enabled by placing their corresponding suit's Ace on the center target. Powered agents trigger their effects when moved to another pile. Each agent has a unique bio and appearance, but all agents from a singular faction deliver the same benefits. Sort and build all suits up to King to complete the mission. Every match plays nearly identically, except for number of suits in play, and their associated powers and teams. There is a single type of board arrangement throughout the entire game. The spy thriller was a perfect setup to organize stacks variably and instill some gameplay variation — a sorely missed opportunity. A few other modes unlocked after some time will also show up on the world map. Countdown against the clock is optional in separate non-campaign mode, along with a single daily challenge leaderboard, and a skirmish mode that lets the player create a custom game with any teams of their choice. These become the main points of interest once the campaign is done, but without the supporting narrative and limited options I did not feel compelled to keep playing. Campaign Plus also introduces turn limits for a more challenging experience.
Positive

Very strong presentation extremely polished in every way
Great ambiance exudes a lot of personality
Entertaining international spy thriller narrative worthy of a good TV espionage series
Good use of FMV to tell the story for each chapter intro
Good writing for agent bios and mission synopses
Great character portraits and visual effects
No time limit for a more relaxing session
Classic and plus modes, the latter gives more XP but requires completing levels in a set number of moves
Direct connections to other Bithell titles, notably Volume
Music gains intensity when nearing completion
Unlock vibrant color themes that affect the whole interface
Combine faction powers for good effect

Negative

Many factions don't work well on their own or have too many random effects to be of use
Early power limitations, randomness and negative effects nearly drove me to abandon the game
Predictable mid-game plot twist
Player actions have no impact on mission narratives
Can't move stacks of successive series in a same suit together
All cards are always revealed, leaving out discovery or potential alternate modes
Single type of board arrangement
Sometimes activate powers by accident while reordering packs
No undo
No autocomplete once all cards are free to stack home
