The Secret of Gillwood

This is a small platformer game with a nice and cosy atmosphere, the music makes the world feel mysterious and makes you want to explore it! The save function in the game helps out a lot! Its nice to be able to save after you have made a hard jump but it can be exploited. I guess it's up to each player how easy they want to make the game. Game play lacks a little bit but still kinda fun to play around in and it's not too expensive for a nice experience.

The secret of Gilwood is a good game if you like platformers. Its just the rigth amount of challange to not make it to infurating. Its a very nice atmosphere and the platforming is very fun. It can be hard at points figuring out were to go, but you find your way eventully. A few glitches here and there but overall its a small but fun and engaging game

I am usually very patient, but when a game begins with jumping with a sphere on poles....

I recently streamed this game to my audience over at Facebook Gaming and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's incredible to think that it was produced by just one gentleman. Absolutely love the open world and the puzzles. It had both myself and my husband constantly guessing and my audience/viewers loved the concept behind the game. Big well done to Henrik on his first game and I'm sure there will be many more to come!

so this is a hard game to review imo. it should be noted right off the bat that this is not a big company making this by any means and that i think theres only one or two people working on it so my first impressions of the game, it looks alright. when i started, i was impressed by the general graphics of the landscape as i expected it to be alot worse. the soundtrack was also quite good imo and added to the dark spooky theme to the game. one mechanic i loved was the save mechanic. in large 3d platformer, the puzzles can become very long and complex and one mess up will land you back to the start. TSoG allows for you to save the game at points and load back to them which i found very very beneficially. however, there was a slight feeling of exploiting it by saving after each jump so maybe there should be something that limits how many times you can save (ie in one area, you can only save 10 times before having all saves reset) there was only one pressing issue imo. this was is the object/character boxes. as you play as a ball, it isnt really clear what you are on so it can be misleading. also, some of the environment during the puzzle had incorrect boxing. some areas were blocked off while visually, it looked like you could get there. most of the time that was only the case with the parts that arent included in the puzzle however, there was one puzzle that was very frustrating as the boxing was completly off generally, i enjoyed it however, there were a couple of preferences i would've loved to have. 1 - allow you to zoom in/out from your character. this is a platformer so its nice to increase your FoV while playing (there was an option in settings but it didnt do anything from my experience) 2 - allow you to adjust the brightness of your sprite. the ball character you play as is too bright imo and irritated me 3 - some form of direction. I loved how open the places were as its not something you see much in platformers however, it got very annoying when i couldnt find the first step to the puzzle as the area was so big but for a small developer, this is a very good game and for the price, would give it a 6/10

If you like platformers The Secret of Gillwood is a game worth trying out. The few mechanics makes the game easy to learn and puts the focus on the hard and fun part of the game, the platforming! The platforming gets more challenging the further you get into the game and beating them is exiting! The game has some bugs but is still very playable!

Rough around the edges but a nice game overall, the atmosphere is great and the puzzles, furiating at times feels nice when finaly overcome.

Remember this above all else. You can do a quick save by pressing "F" and a quick load by pressing "H". You're going to need to do that A LOT as this platformer has you commit to any jump you make. No mid air corrections, so speeding up or slowing down. You are locked in the moment your glowing orb leaves the ground. The game could use some additional plot elements to hype up Gillwood's mystery, but overall it's a fun platformer to spend a couple hours playing through.
