The Rabbit and The Owl

I've played a lot of puzzle games from the likes of big names like the Talos Principle and The Swapper to little gems like Gateways and Out There Somewhere and I can definitely say this game stands with the likes of any of the good puzzle games. I was hesitant at first as I backed the kickstarter and it had been ages before this game finally got finished but the product is simply amazing. Even though I've played a lot of puzzle games this one definitely stands out because of the uniqueness. The puzzles really do make you think carefully to solve them. Every learned ability is important. The music is peaceful, the art stunning, the story interesting and broken into small pieces, and the game itself is satisfying as you solve each newly presented level. I've been playing the game solo (and it's great played that way), but I have to imagine it would be pretty cool to do with someone else although it would make you think differently and you'd really have to work together! One last thing of note is playtime. I've currently beat 19 levels out of 48 in about 2 hours, so I would guess a roughly 5-6 hour playtime. Short review: Check this one out - it's worth playing!

You can play with another player in local coop, currently same screen coop is the only option available. You will need at least one controller to do this. Or you can play single-player and switch between the two characters. There are many places that requires one character to stand still so the other one can move anyway, so the game runs fairly smoothly. Let me just state out front that I am rather stumped on a puzzle about a third of the way through the game. Total of 48 puzzles, I am on level 17 and unable to progress. I am also playing on single-player mode with a single controller switching back and forth. I asked for some help because from level 16 and on, there may be time-sensitive parts that require you to trigger them. I would like to be able to move both characters at the same time, but of course this is not an option. The developer is very responsive in the discussions and assured me that the game can be completed with a decent amount of time buffered into these time-sensitive sections. So I will need to revisit this again and try to plan out my paths ahead of time a bit more. The controls are very intuitive on the controller. Your left joystick moves your character. The buttons activate skill, jump, flip levers, and switch characters. The D-pad is used only for gestures, which are not essential to playing the game. If you get stuck, you can always restart a game. The game is very user friendly and does not reset your character to the initial starting point after each death. It just spawns on the same platform and you can try whatever it is that you are trying, again. If you want to reset all to starting positions, you can easily restart the level. In addition, you can look at all of the previously revealed artwork and the levels that you have beaten easily through the Archives. The puzzles look fairly simple, there appears to not be many twists and turns. but when you head into the game, you come to realize that the puzzles are designed a bit harder than they look at a glance. There may be puzzles that you get right away, but you will definitely be stuck at one place or another. The puzzles are primary, and platforming secondary in this game. The graphics are rather nice, with the lore featuring rather beautiful artworks that clearly took a lot of time and effort. I really enjoy the style of the game and the way it appears. The music creates a nice atmosphere with the graphics. The story is revealed a bit at a time and not very clearly or straight forward. But the goal is to "piece together the mythology of the world and Yril's past to discover why the Rabbit and the Owl are here now," according to the store page. I have not seen enough to make heads and tails of this yet, but I hope to continue trying and revealing it one bit a time. From what I have seen, if you have someone to play coop on the same screen, and you enjoy puzzle-platformers, this is a fantastic game for you. The level designs are very clever, and the puzzles are just a bit more difficult than you see at first glance. I look forward to trying to solve the rest of the puzzles in single-player mode myself. Am enjoying the game so much so far! I love the art style and the puzzles, definitely a great game!! It’s been a dream to stream and I hope to play it multiplayer soon. Can’t wait to see we’re the story goes.

This game is fantastic. If you like puzzle games, you'll love this. If you like immersive in-game music, you'll love this. If you apprecaite hand drawn art styles, you'll love this. I really can't say enough good things about this game. The gameplay is reminscent of other puzzlers like Portal, The Bridge, The Turing Test, etc. and every time you think you finally have a handle on how everything works and you can blast through the next level, it adds another layer. Each level feels new, it doesn't feel like the game loses steam at any point, and the story is interesting and engaging all the way through. Highly recommend.

The Rabbit and The Owl is a puzzle platforming game infused with an atmospheric/soothing enviroment. The music and art is quite unique, they really go hand in hand with the enviroment. The hints and solutions to the puzzles are quite subtle. When piecing the solution together, your puzzle solving process may lead you to a huge light-bulb/'Ah-haaa!' moment which may also leads to a very gratifying feeling of success! Both the single player and Co-Op plays well, so if you are looking for a single player puzzle game or looking to co-op with a partner, I highly recommend this game.

Great game. Saw this game showcased at PAX a few years ago, and it's nice to see it go gold on Steam. The creator's a down to earth passionate guy from what I could tell. I hope others give this game a chance.

I enjoyed playing The Rabbit and The Owl a lot. I loved the look of the characters and the levels' background art. Between two people, the puzzles were just the right amount of challenging while still being enjoyable, and the platforming was easy. I played local co-op all on my friend's account, hence the low hours on record. My only criticism would be that the story is a little hard to follow but I think it's vague/mysterious on purpose. Overall, I'd recommend playing this game with a friend who likes puzzles!

Relaxing music, nice art and the puzzles hit the sweet spot of being challenging, but not frustrating.

This game turned out as great as I hoped it would! I was a backer when this game was on KickStarter and I feel like I got my moneys worth. I love the aesthetics, artwork and especially the music! I have the full sound track and listen to it all the time. The puzzles are great, sometimes hard, but I love the challenge!

Heven't played this very long, but I am realling loving this game. The art is well done, and the puzzles are well thought out and are enjoyable. The music fits the mood of the game perfectly. Highly recomment this game.
