I'm gonna start with the praises: The art is really nice, some of the transformation sequences (the ones with comic-like panels) are cool, and the premise isn't bad. Plus, there's a TON of different routes and endings and the team deserves props for that. Unfortunately, I found that the writing wasn't as good. The pace of the narrative feels really weird, sometimes it doesn't seem to make sense that the characters went from point A to B, they just did. There's also the classic issue of when the dialogue option doesn't give you a good clue of how the protagonist actually responds. The more serious problem for me was the limited system options. I know, it's a visual novel, not exactly the most system heavy type of game, but exactly because it is a game with so many options, going back to replay and choose different paths becomes a bit of a chore. A chapter selection would be VERY welcome, and I'd appreciate an alert when a dialogue choice is gonna change the story. It would at least help me manage my saves better. Also a lot of scenes with full ilustrations don't get a spot in the gallery, and that felt very disappointing, since the art is one of the high points of the game. I definitely appreciate this game for what it is and what it gets right. But in all fair criticism, I can't say is a satisfactory package to me.
We need chinese!!!!!我们需要中文!!!我们需要中文!!!!
I'm not a furry, YOU'RE a furry! Ok, no...no, we're...we're both furries.
What this game does well is it's gimmick. When transformations happen, you really do think to yourself, "oh sick". However, I do have to admit that the writing isn't that great. There are moments that have me like "ok. cool i guess." BUT I will recommend this game because it does have this moment where they talk about how fat people are attractive and I was like, "so true, so true. preach it." It's kinda sad that there isn't that many men, but I can live with that.
If you are here and know what this is, just buy it you cheap bastard. For everyone else, the game is a visual novel style adventure with a cast of anthropomorphic animals sailing the seas, or at least set piece scenes, to collect world changing magical MacGuffins that, of course, can cause physical changes in the characters in response to decision made by the player. This description does absolutely sell the game short, and the writing is surprisingly good, or at least much better than I expected. For example, the changes caused by the coins have varying effects on the mental states of the characters, something that affects the options available to the player character and creates something of a soft path dependency, where you are not able to live consequence free of prior decisions. As for play and replay, I played through something like fifteen or so permutations, including partial play-throughs created by saving before major decisions. There are approximately two dozen discrete endings, clustered around 3 (or, arguably, 4) major branches. I say four because there is a three branch major decision early in the game but there is a pair of secret ending that branch off before this. On the matter of saving, the devs did a great job with making a simple way to quickly save and load that works well with exploring the decision tree. THAT SAID, it should be noted that the game does have sexual content and features content that might be considered 'fetish.' If you are particularly sensitive to this type of content, you probably won't enjoy the game. Conversely, if that is all you are here for, you might be disappoint to find that someone hide a story in your smut. Overall, it's definitely 9 paws out of 10, would play fifteen times.
The Pirate's Fate is a complex visual novel slash LGBTQ-friendly dating simulator starring a crew of anthropomorphic treasure hunters, who have found a cache of wish granting coins able to transform bodies and personalities. The changes operate on a subconsciously asked for, best in the moment basis, often leading to some disturbing and far-reaching consequences. There's a lot of depth here across the branching paths, but I decided that I was done with my playthrough after reaching my first possible ending two hours in. The art is fun and the voice acting is decent.
Whenever I make a choice, characters either die, get thicc thighs that save lives, change species, or take steroids. Thank goodness this game gives you multiple save states for you to back track to if you don't like the choices you've made so far.
It's cute and fun. If you grew up with 80s/90s adventure cartoon serials, this is basically that - but a little hornier. No, there aren't any outright sex scenes, but it does explore mild sexual themes. I do like it, though; the story's better than you'd expect to find in a visual novel, the art's neat, and the characters are mostly memorable with their own personalities and some depth. It's also rather responsive to your choices. The one big negative is that it managed to crash twice for me in less than two hours, somehow. Perhaps the coding just isn't up to snuff.
absolutely broken on linux even though the engine supports it natively. devs plz fix
I have never played a game like this. I don't think there's any game that you can really compare it to. The Pirates Fate gets weird as you play it and weirder if you decide to replay it a few more times. The story has a very interesting concept to it and I would be interested in seeing other games similar to this one in the future. A lot of love was put into this and I'm impressed with the quality of the product overall. Would recommend.
