We want to thank you for your support. As a small studio, working on a beloved and historic character like the Phantom has been both an honor and a privilege. We've poured our hearts into making the Phantom look as good in the game as he does in the comics.

The Phantom is an arcade-style beat-em-up coming to PC and consoles. Play as The Phantom or his partner, Diana Palmer, in this 14-level adventure. The feared pirates of the Singh Brotherhood are battling for power and threatening The Phantom’s legacy, and it’s up to you to stop them. Use your hand-to-hand fighting skills and trusty weapons to dispatch this evil, and call in assistance from your animal friends Fraka the falcon and Devil the wolf. The Phantom features a brand-new story approved by King Features. Experience this canon addition through full-screen cut scenes and captivating in-game visuals, hand-illustrated and animated frame-by-frame by seasoned comic book artists and Art Of Play’s dedicated in-house 2D creative team.

De volta aos beat’em ups com The Phantom! Mesmo sem ser expert no gênero, meu interesse só cresceu nos últimos anos — muito por influência do canal The Flying Kick, do meu amigo Savino, que inclusive me apresentou The Phantom. Desenvolvido pelo estúdio australiano Art of Play, o jogo traz o Fantasma de volta aos games após 30 anos. Não conheço tanto sobre o personagem além do filme de 1996, mas pesquisei e descobri que ele é um dos heróis mais importantes na transição das aventuras pulp para os super-heróis clássicos. O jogo, no entanto, não se aprofunda nisso — usa mais a imagem do Fantasma do que o seu lore, o que pode agradar novatos, mas decepcionar fãs antigos. A trama é simples: Dogai Singh sequestra o filho do Fantasma e, ao lado de Diana Palmer, o herói parte numa jornada por cinco países para resgatá-lo. A gameplay segue o estilo tradicional do beat’em up — fases lineares, hordas de inimigos e perseguições que, infelizmente, mais testam a paciência do que a habilidade. O jogo tem seus méritos: a direção de arte é linda, com visual de graphic novel, e o combate é variado e satisfatório. Os golpes especiais com o Anel da Caveira são um charme à parte. Mas nem tudo são flores. As armas de fogo são inúteis, os chefões são poucos e sem graça, e o level design carece de criatividade. Fora as sequências de perseguição que parecem um minigame repetitivo. No fim das contas, The Phantom é um jogo ok: sólido, bonito, mas sem ousadias. É uma homenagem respeitosa, ainda que tímida, a um personagem importante. Espero que tenha sucesso o bastante para render uma sequência com mais história, mais conteúdo e, claro, mais Fantasma.
