An arcade-style single plane beat 'em up. Movement is stiff and it feels like there's not enough moves. You can't combine or chain every type of move that it feels like you should be able to. It's also not as pure as something like Kung Fu on the nes. It's an uncomfortable middle ground. Attack range is very short for every character except the big blue ninja guy. Normal enemies out range you on basic melee attacks. The first boss is a dude who fills the entire screen with a huge punch hit box and he's more difficult than the next three bosses combined. The wind up on his attacks is very short and there's no back dash or anything to get out of the way, I'm not sure what the intended strategy is. Later on he shows up as a regular enemy and he will just march forward, block your attacks, then punch you with a screen filling hurt box. You can pseudo air dash with one of the jump attacks but it's not enough to get out of the damage zone. When he blocks he crosses his arms and that somehow makes his shins invulnerable to attack. You'd need a debug build to figure out what is going on with these hitboxes. It took me forever to figure out that you have to throw enemies into the final boss to hurt him because it requires a very specific move that there's no reason to use anywhere else in the game. You also have to throw them from a specific location and it you're very much at the mercy of random enemy behavior. The screen is slightly wider than 4:3, but not 16:9. It has a setting to stretch the screen horizontally 112% which is a terrible idea and it is on by default. If you have the stretch turned off there's an ugly checkerboard border. When you get knocked down sometimes you lose all your special weapon charge and sometimes you don't. I'm not sure what the mechanic is. You also lose charge on screen transitions so you'll want to autistically memorize the boring ass arbitrary levels. Enemies spend a lot of time off screen, same as every beat 'em up. Including big robot guys who are invulnerable from the front, they walk off screen and can't be attacked until you build up a full bomb charge. Imagine this happening during a 1CC time trial run 45 minutes in. I can't believe no game has ever addressed this issue. The only extra achievements are for 1CC'ing the full game and that seems entirely too punishing given that it's 50 minutes long and the final boss is quite difficult and random. I honestly think Kung Fu on the NES is a better implementation of this style of game.

great retro game
Lixo.
This has been my first 1cc of a retro game and it has really opened my eyes to how fun beatemup mechanics can be, games nowadays just don't have fun throws and crowd control like this! Incredible game and very fun ! Huge recommendation if you want to get into the genre!
NINJA GAME
