Match to Torch Simulator 2017 The Morgue Fissure Between Worlds was in a bundle I bought recently(currently running at the time of this review on Indie Gala), and so it came across the ethereal surface of my existential desk as a result. It looked creepy enough and reportedly was a short first chapter in what should be a three chapter affair. So, how did this game stack up?
Story
The story for The Morgue Fissure Between Worlds, as of right now, is a bit indistinct. You simply start off in a room and begin exploring the place you find yourself in. As you explore, you find a few notes which offer snippets of story. It seems there was some sort of rebellion, of which you are part of the losing faction, but all hope is not lost. Some answer to your hopes lies below the mansion (or monastery, or whatever it is) and you are to find your way to what seems like the organizer of head of your cult. Something like that. So far, the story hasn't really developed although you are clearly dealing with something sinister. Despite this fact, it was still pretty interesting and made me interested in seeing where it will go from here. I expect the story be revealed further in the next chapter. 6 out of 10
Gameplay
The gameplay is typical of lo-fi walking simulator-esque horror games, in that you basically explore the building, solving puzzles which unlock more areas, and reading story sheets (in this case in some very fine flowing cursive). Oh...and you pick up a lot of tinder (matches) which you will use to light a lot of torches and candelabras. A lot. You will however start to feel grateful for the copious torches, as they offer some comfort in what is arguably a completely creepy and sinister place. In the interest of full disclosure, there is in fact a monster. The foreboding leading up to its reveal was pretty well done as well. As a gameplay mechanic, the building of tension was very effective. I did try to use a gamepad, but no control was mapped to the right analog, so I quickly reverted to k/m. All told, a solid effort here. 7 out of 10
Graphics
The graphics in The Morgue Fissure Between Worlds were very effective in creating and sustaining a building sense of dread and tension. Although the graphics seem like stock Unity fare, they were done well, and although nothing even close to modern, the developer took something basic and created a nice looking game out of it. Creepy as hell, but nice. 7 out of 10
Audio
Overall, I don't really recall my thoughts about the audio in The Morgue Fissure Between Worlds as a whole. However, that really isn't a knock. There was a persistent, almost malevolent sound running in the background which again was very effective in conveying a sense of building dread and fear. However, the monsters reveal was preceded by the sound of its release, and you have no doubt at the point where you hear this that you are probably going to die. The fact that at that time, you are also splashing noisily around a flooded cellar did nothing to ease the growing sense of disquiet you are feeling while playing. 6.5 out of 10
Verdict
While The Morgue Fissure Between Worlds isn't a perfect game in any way, it does make efficient use of what is almost certainly a non existent budget and really focuses on creating atmosphere and solid gameplay that stays within itself. Rather than take everything to extremes, the developer instead chose to work on perfecting a low budget game built around perfecting an idea. I applaud the effort. This first chapter took right at a half hour to complete, which I thought was perfect for the experience.
My ratings averaged out to 6.625 for this game. However, I am going to give it a bit of a boost due to the effort involved in using less to create more. 6.75 out of 10. Would light torches in creepy hallways again (and will be looking forward to chapter two)

If you found this review helpful and would be interested in supporting my Curator group, it would be appreciated. Simple psychological horror game. You start in some kind of house and you just walk, collect kindlebox, light torches and candles and read letters. Reminds something else? Yes it felt cheap copy of Amnesia (gameplay not story) and they forgot main thing: actual horror and atmosphere. I completed all game in about 30minutes (half of played time i was away). There is promises for chapter 2 but i am not sure if there is a way to make this game good.
PROS
I don't know... I try to think of something but i just can't find anything good...
NEUTRAL
Background sounds. Sometimes background sounds are scary a bit, sometimes that sound is repetetive and not scary at all. Graphics. Game is made using Unity engine and it's not horribly looking graphics but not impressive at all too. It feels like very old game but aged well so i won't go bad on this aspect.
CONS
Gameplay. Boring, not interesting and bland... There is nothing challenging in this game. Puzzles are simple as 2+2 and not engaging at all. Horror factor. Since it's horror game i had to look at horror alone. There was nothing scary or creepy (creepiest part of the game happened in begining http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=898558368)
There was one monster in last 10s of game which wasn't scary enough
Game didin't forced me to flinch just because there was nothing happening. Audio. Yes i mentioned background sounds in neutral section but now i will look to all audio. There is no soundtrack. In some rooms you don't make a sound while walking. Most of the time i was playing in silence with little bit of background sounds which supposed to be spooky but it wasnt. Story. What story? i found few letters with some writings but no important information and font on letters are horrible... it was hard to read because of that curly font. Menu. Again what menu? When you start game there is simple Unity engine configuration menu and that's all. First screen you get have 4 buttons: Start, Dark, Darker, Darkest. Between Dark/Darker/Darkest there was very small difference. You get into game, press esc and there is message: Exit game? Y/N and that's all.
CONCLUSION
It felt that i played a demo for early access game. There was nothing interesting in this game and no horror at all. Not worth the price at this moment. Game itself is too short and not worth calling full game. I will update review once chapter 2 comes out.
Another horror where you can't see a thing. Consists of 2 chapters set in different environment - first one is mansion, another is cave. Looking for switches to open new path is not the hardest. Lighting up torches and candles using matchboxes is ok, but soon matchboxes are depleted leaving you fambling in the darkness. Essentially walking sim. Couldn't finish the game because it froze giving not much choice but to abandon it. Overall not recommended.
25 minutes. Was very surprised to learn that there is only 1 chapter. The synopsis says "there are things that must be forgotten, relics that must be discovered, and worlds to be charted....(sic)". None of those things exist. Was having a great time until it ended abruptly. Things displayed in the video are not currently playable either.
Tetszik! Igaz a Chapter 1 ~ 27 perces mivoltából az égvilágon semmi nem derült ki ,kik-hol-miért-mi célból mit kell csinálnunk, de nekem bejön amit láttam. Valamiféle földalatti(?) létesitményben lehetünk, ahol gyufásdobozokat keresgélve gyertyákat /fáklyákat gyújtogatva keressük a helyes irányt.
I am enjoying this thriller. Puzzles are not overly difficult. Graphics are a bit old school, but nice feeling to them. Good music, with a balance of creepy silence just to torture you in solitude. I thought there would be more puzzles/hidden things, but perhaps I have not found them all yet. If you watch Doctor Who, this game is particularly spooky! Don't Blink https://youtu.be/p8d-eB-NlP8
I played the demo when it came out and also really enjoyed this full release aswell. Thought it was very creepy and the puzzles weren't to difficult can't wait for Chapter 2. https://youtu.be/4bngo0Qfzaw
Im speechless, this game was so much fun. When I beat the first chapter I wanted to play more and more of the other coming soon chapters. I got scared so bad I wanted to be scared even more. I highly recommend this game, everything about it is worth it. I really hope that the oncoming chapters involve more puzzles and secrets that we have to discover. The downfalls I had was with the reading, I tried to read the notes I found throughout the game but had alot of trouble doing so because it was a bit pixelated, cursive, and too small. Also for future prefernce, I really hope that the "creature" gets better physics.
This game was short but fun. Im looking forward to new updates/chapters. Only real problem was the mouse sensitivity.
